About Aidan S.

I've been playing the drums for 16 years, and don't see myself stopping. I currently play in the New York-based pop band The Great American Novel, and over the years have played in a variety of different bands at venues like Webster Hall, Irving Plaza, Starland Ballroom and The Mercury Lounge. My playing style has a lot of forward momentum, but it's equally important as a drummer to lay back and be understated. There's just as much power in restraint as there is in flying around the kit. *** Lesson Details *** I'm very laid back when it comes to teaching. I believe that the only way to become proficient on a given instrument is to really be interested in your own progress. Whether it comes from seeing a show or hearing a piece of music, inspiration is a key component to learning an instrument. I teach what the student wants to know starting from the ground up and developing technique along the way. In no time, you'll be amazing your peers with your solid groove and killer chops. *** Travel Equipment *** If a student wishes to take drum lessons at home, he/she should have a drum kit there. *** Specialties *** Double bass technique on drums. Heavy metal and hard rock styles for drums. proper sticking technique, power and speed development. Odd time signatures and dynamic range a big part of my style. On guitar, metal and rock techniques such as playing in drop tuning, alternate picking, sweep picking and tapping. Also basic chord vocabulary and rhythmic phrasing.
