Having studied in LA, Chicago, and Boston, I have a broad range of exposure to different playing styles and schools of thought that I bring to my teaching.  My main goal as a teacher is to help my students become self-sufficient in critiquing their playing and problem solving while practicing.

I am a strong believer in practicality and utility, and so I take an organized approach to teaching students. I have found through teaching and my own studies that when students have simplified, clearly outlined goals, they learn more quickly and with greater ease.

Additionally, I prefer to teach through musical examples focused on a student’s interests rather than etudes and general exercises without specific applications. We play music because it is beautiful and fun and students should feel that way about the music they study.

I am experienced in playing both french and german bow which allows me to teach students of either technique at a high level. I accept students of all ability levels.

About Adam R.

I am a professional bass player with a particular interest in teaching. I have studied in LA, Chicago, and Boston and play both French and German bow. My main goal as a teacher is to help my students become self-sufficient in assessing and teaching themselves. I look at lessons as a collaborative mentorship rather than a situation where a student performs their music and I simply tell them what to make better. I also strongly beleive that we should never forget why we play music: becasue it's fun! That's why I prefer to teach with real musical examples rather than blanket etudes and exercises.
