I am a rocker and funk junkie who has musical training in Jazz and Classical guitar. I have performed all over the U.S., Canada, Japan, and Asia with various artists. I have performed with major label artists on national television shows including Conan, American Idol, The View, Live Kelly and Michael, and many more. With my training and performing experience, I can help you learn the fundamentals of music theory, guitar technique, song writing, and with my home studio, music recording. I like to teach students of all levels by focusing on the music that they are passionate about already, while exposing them further to new music and unlocking the secrets of how to make better music. It's all about fun.
*** Lesson Details ***
For beginners, I like to put a large focus on having fun. For me, it was so fun to just be able to even play a chord and have it sound good when I was just beginning. After learning a few more chords, stringing them together to play a song was even more rewarding. I always take an interest in what music you enjoy. It's also important for me to broaden your horizons by exposing you to all of the music that has moved me throughout the years. I feel it is much easier to start inserting the fundamentals of guitar technique and music theory when you are excited about learning a song. That's how I developed the love for playing- by playing songs! Now, if you are a total beginner, there are some basic steps that I will walk you through to get you up to the point where you can start playing a song. This involves learning how to properly hold the guitar, play a note on the guitar, name the strings, etc. Once the lessons are under way, I keep you on a steady mix of new songs to learn, music theory, guitar technique, and ear training. The idea at the heart of my teaching philosophy is that all of the fundamentals and exercises don't mean a thing if you can't relate them to music you're learning in our lessons or listening to at home. After all, they are just tools to help you get to that point of playing where it's all just, well, fun!
For more advanced students, I will go into greater detail with understanding music theory and harmony and how it relates to writing songs, improvising solos, and ear training. I can teach you the fundamentals of improvising on jazz standards, funk standards, or rocking out like many of the rock greats. You will learn to play and write more freely, as well as hear what's going on in songs on a higher level than you have before. The ultimate goal is that you learn how to explore and discover new ideas on your own: to basically become a competent, self learner.
