While pursuing my Bachelor's degree in music composition, I began teaching guitar professionally at a lesson studio located in St. Louis, Missouri. After completing my degree I moved to Chicago to pursue my master's degree of the same subject. Since moving to Chicago, I have continued to teach guitar as well as serving as a graduate assistant at DePaul University's Music School. My Assistantship included duties such as tutoring undergraduates in music theory and music history. I believe my strong educational background and life long desire to learn more about music continues to make me a better teacher. In all I have taught guitar professionally for almost 10 years. I have had long term students as young as four years old and up to 65 years old. And although I have pursued serious Classical training for the past eight years, my roots are in Classic Rock from 60's-80's. Therefore my students receive a diverse and colorful lesson format which can include any track of style, seriousness, and skill level.

*** Lesson Details ***
Technique is strongly stressed in my lessons. I believe having a better understanding of the physical mechanics necessary to perform are crucial aspects to learning an instrument. It is amazing how much easier changing a chord or playing a melody can be performed while utilizing proper technique. My goal is to insure the student progresses and maintain a positive lesson atmosphere. I like to teach my students how to read music, which is becoming less and less common among guitar players, because of the great way it benefits their musicianship skills. I do not force a student to read music, however learning to read rhythms, memorizing chords, working on scales, learning songs, and developing expressive and improvisational abilities are some the more important subjects I stress in my lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Two guitars, music stands, amplifier, and simple recording devices which can be helpful for a student who wishes to study the audio of the lesson.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have two guitars (classical and electric) The student will need their own instrument. And I can provide a music stand.

*** Specialties ***
I teach rock, blues and beginning classical and jazz methods.
