About Brian G.
Hello, my name is Brian and I am currently studying my Bachelor's in Music Education at VanderCook College of Music. It is the only college in the world that specializes in specifically Music Education, and has been since 1909. The school teaches us a basic understanding of 17 instruments and voice, while also teaching theory, aural skills, music history, professional ed courses, and includes a large number of various ensembles. Because of this, I'm able to teach some basic concepts on all of the band/orchestra instruments. Personally, I started taking piano lessons in 2000 and started drum set lessons in 2002. I've always had a dual musician life after that point, and was apart of the band and jazz band programs from 5th grade until now (sophomore in college). While attending Marist High School, I taught myself guitar, bass guitar, banjo, harmonica, and tin whistle. I expanded my concepts of music and genres, and find myself very knowledgeable of classical, jazz, rock, blues, and pop on piano, and fluent in jazz, blues, rock, Latin, and pop styles on drum set. I am willing to teach any student their musical needs as they prosper through their lives as an artist. I hope to one day teach in a band setting with my degree, offer private lessons, and compose music on the side.
*** Lesson Details ***
For lessons, I'm ready to work on making some music while always having fun. As the lessons progress, I start to expect more from the student regarding retaining knowledge and muscle memory throughout learning their technique and repertoire. This will come with consistent practice. After 3 or 6 months, the beginning students will find themselves recognizing note names, rhythms, meter, melodies and harmonies, and mechanics of their instrument. My goal is to keep the student interested in the music while learning about themselves.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room w/ piano
Basement w/ drum set, guitars, bass, amps, harmonicas
both have seating for parents
*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect my students to provide themselves with their own instrument but I would provide my own in addition to theirs while teaching, unless there is the sharing of a piano. I can also provide various sheet music.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical, jazz, rock, and blues for piano. I specialize in rudimentary drumming, rock, jazz, and latin for drums/percussion. I believe in making sure the student learns as much as possible about his or her instrument, can improve each day, and ultimately can have fun while playing.

This teacher has many great qualities in the field of music education.
I am learning a great deal from this teacher about the piano and life qualities in general. I have taken the tools I've learned from each lesson to apply in my own practice to develop myself as a musician. I would recommend Brian Goodman to anyone interested in learning about music.
