I was 3 years old when I started playing the Violin. Since then, I have played a number of different instruments such as the Piano, Organ, Clarinet, Accordion, and Banjo. When I was 6 I started writing music. Since then it has always been my desire to be a conductor and song writer. I attended a private University (Evangel University in Springfield Missouri) and received my B.A. in Music with a Minor in Musical Composition. While at Evangel, I had the wonderful opportunity to enhance my musicianship through academia and professional experience. As such, I became extremely proficient musical theory and performance. I have also received a B.S. in Kinesiology and the Physical Sciences, which has helped me to realize how important music is in my life today. Music is more than just notes, and all my life experiences up to this point have certainly affirmed such a statement.

*** Lesson Details ***
Well, one of my sayings is “Music should be fun!” And this is certainly true! I like to have fun with my students and I enjoy my students when they are having fun. The excitement that a student has when playing their favorite pop artist, is the same excitement I bring to my lessons. I not only teach my students the “Proper/Common” things of music, but I also teach my students how to be “free” and learn “uncommon” repertoire. I can be laid back at times. I realize that there is a time to focus and a time to play. After awhile, my students will understand how important and prolific music is in their personal life; they will learn to find the joys of music in the world around them. They will not only enjoy the music they listen to, but they will understand it as well. For your convenience, I am now offering online lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room setup for lesson with upright piano. Parking available. Parents can sit in on lessons, and waiting area available.

*** Travel Equipment ***
The student should provide a suitable learning instrument for their mode of interest. Example: clarinet for clarinet lessons, etc. Student is responsible for lesson books.

*** Specialties ***
Jazz, Classical, Pop, Rock. I also tutor Health Sciences, and Human Biology courses.

Ben is very professional, respectful and knowledgeable! He always starts the lesson on time and ends on time (which is very important for our busy lives)! He keeps Megan (10 years) interested in playing and is always very encouraging when correcting a mistake! We are so glad we chose him to begin this musical journey with her!
