About James

I perform Music lessons in Arroyo Grande serving the Five Cities area including Santa Maria,Santa Barbara,Ventura San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles. If you live on the Central Coast I can either perform
Lessons at my Music studio or if you prefer in the privacy of your home. In the City of Highland I only do in home lesson and do cover and have students in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego County and again these are in the privacy of your home in these areas. I grew up in Indianapolis Indiana where I attended High School. While in High School I studied Classical Clarinet with Achille Rossi of the Indianapolis Symphony orchestra. My interest at this early stage of my career was and still is in Classical Music. I went on to play with many of the All-City and All-state Orchestras.

After my graduation from High School, my interest in jazz began to blossom. I went on to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston Ma. Where I was a Performance Major and earned my four year professional performance certificate. Studying all aspects of Jazz Composition- Arranging- Performance. I studied Clarinet with Andre Lizotte ( Principle Clarinetist with the Boston Opera Co.) Improvisational techniques for Tenor Saxophone and Flute with Joe Viola ( Woody Herman). Composition with James Williams ( Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers) Paul Schmiling who is the Dean of Composition at Berklee College of Music and Pianist of the Late Great Sarah Vaughn. And Herb Promeroy Arranging.

After Graduation from Berklee, I continued to freelance in and around the Boston area before moving to California in 1979 where I continues to freelance and leads the “ Tequila Sundance Band.” I am a gifted well rounded Musician who can help you bridge any gap in your playing or performance.

Dawn S.

Santa Maria, CA

About Dawn

I began to play the piano in 4th grade and immediately fell in love with it!  I continued with piano lessons through college. I have accompanied orchestras and singing groups and have been a church pi
anist for over 20 years.  For the last 14 years plus, I have enjoyed teaching students of all ages.

Students will learn in a creative, relaxed atmosphere. I want each student to feel a sense of accomplishment every week and look forward to the next lesson.

After just a few weeks, the beginning student will be playing some familiar songs and will know many musical terms. Within a couple months, they will be playing with both hands and moving their hands to different positions on the keyboard.

I am able to teach lessons from my pet-free home or yours.

Student must have a standard 88 key piano to practice on. I will be willing to purchase the books; students can purchase books from me.

Oren S.

Santa Maria, CA

About Oren

I've played Music all my life, first teaching myself, then pursuing private instruction on various instruments, then completing a BA in Music in 2009. Music is important to me as an outlet for self-e
xpression, and as a way to communicate in the universal language.
I really enjoy passing on the knowledge I've acumulated over the years and seeing students grow and develop their own relationship with the Music.
I also have a graduate degree in the field of education and draw many instructional techniques and approaches from the realm of classroom-instruction.
I believe strongly in a personalized approach to teaching and a lot of positive reinforcement to encourage growth.
My masters is in special ed., I have worked with individuals who have developmental disabilities and other challenges for many years and am happy to discuss any special arrangements

Nick G.

Nipomo, CA

About Nick

Hi, guys!

My name is Nick. I'm 29 and just moved down from San Francisco to be closer to family and friends while pursuing my career.

I've had 20 years experience of playing guitar in different
capacities - from playing for myself to playing in a band for fun or for money to recording at home or in a studio.

Gathering what knowledge I have over the years, I feel that now I could help aid others in their own progressive learning.

Learning guitar or conquering it's challenges is a skill in and of itself, I believe. You can learn how to learn to play guitar more efficiently; and I believe I can help most guitarists learn that skill.
So if you're having trouble with your timing, fingering, stringing, strumming, licking, adjusting, transcriptions, modulations, compositions, etc. or you just want to have someone to bounce ideas off of and/or to just play with, I'm happy to listen and help and excited to learn from you all myself!
