Alex E.

Reading, PA

About Alex

I want to inspire students and get them to reach their musical goals. I can teach piano and guitar. I not only teach students how to read, but teach their favorite songs! I will train their ears and turn them into musical performers.

I am a graduate of Kutztown University with a degree in Music Education. I am classically trained in piano. My repertoire includes jazz, pop, rock, classical, and more. My musical tastes are eclectic, and I'm always interested in hearing and learning new music.

While instructing students, I will not only teach sight reading, but will teach them how to u
se their ear and improvise melodies. It's not just about reading music off a page but also feeling the music.

Once in a while someone comes along with whom you immediately find affinity and common interests--Corbin is one of those people in my life. He is an exceptionally good communicator and teacher. I always feel inspired and excited when I've finished a lesson, and I look forward to seeing him for the next. He gives real content and gives it something else--a key. The key that unlocks deeper understanding and confidence to continue. This is a very rare quality in anyone, let alone a teacher. Bravo, Corbin!

Adam K.

Philadelphia, PA

Want to build your confidence to play in front of people?
Want to learn how to sing and play at the same time?

Performing should be fun, but it can be nerve-racking, too. As a performer for more than 10 years, I can teach you the tips to build your confidence to play live. I can teach you how to be prepared for whatever comes up. Live performance has as much to do with the hard work of practice and the care free attitude to share with others what you enjoy doing. It's mental as well as physical. I integrate innovative self awareness and relaxation skills from my background in clinical psychology with playing technique. Shows require flexibility to adjust with the last-minute changes and unexpected change in circumstances, as well. I teach you how to reach that point with any song you play.

About Adam

I have been passionate about music all of my life. I have been teaching guitar and piano for 9 years. I'm a doctoral student at Chestnut Hill College pursuing a degree in clinical psychology with plans to become a music therapist. I learned guitar and classical piano under 2 private teachers while pursuing my Psychology degree and music minor at Rutgers University in NJ.

Music was a way for me to find peace, structure, confidence, and an outlet for personal expression and creativity outside of my everyday life. I've grown as a person and a musician through music. I get excited when I see
my students learn enjoy playing something new. I love music more than anything else and that love is something I try to bring out in my students. Once there is love for music, everything grows naturally. I teach to help my students find those strengths in themselves to live a fulfilling life through their instrument.

***Lesson Details***

We create daily, weekly, and monthly goals for you to achieve.

Guitar: After 3 to 6 months of learning with me, you will have a basic knowledge of chords, how to read musical notation, strum to play. Most importantly, you will have learned 3 or 4 songs of your choice so that you can experience the joy of expressing yourself through music.
To achieve these results, you must be willing to practice 20-30 minutes a day.

***Specialties***

I specialize in teaching students to learn to play by ear and improvise songs based on their tastes, style, and ability level. I also walk students through how to write and record semi-professional quality songs with drums, vocals, guitar, and piano. Music genres I cover are mainly Pop, Pop/Rock, Folk, Blues Rock, Classic Rock, Alternative, and Classical (piano only)

*** Studio Equipment ***

I provide a comfortable, quiet room with live instruments, and playback and recording equipment. I expect students to bring a guitar, books, sheet music, picks, and a tuner.
Instruments:
1. Taylor Acoustic Guitar
--picks, tuner, and capo
2. Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar
-- Marshall 100W Amplifier
-- Classic Cry Baby Wah Effects Pedal
3. Casio PX-310 Weighted 88-Key Piano Keyboard

Playback and Recording:
1. MacBook Pro OSX 10.10.3 13-inch screen
- Insignia 27W Speakers with subwoofer
- Garageband
2. Steinberg UR-22 Recording Interface
3. Audio-technica M30 Headphones
4. Sterling Audio ST51 Black Condenser Microphone

*** Travel Equipment *** (same as above except for piano)

Cant speak highly enough about Adam. I felt he went above and beyond for a guitar teacher. He challenged me to perform at an open mic fairly early (I couldnt play a full song before starting lessons) and took his own time to come support me. He teaches piano too and has a great understanding of music theory. This was big for me as music theory is fascinating to me. Our lessons were very relaxed and always left me excited to get home and practice more. My interest in guitar is fairly schizophrenic and I like to change focus all the time to cover as much ground in our precious weekly hour. Adam did a great job working with my idiosyncrasies and taught me a great amount in the few months we had lessons. (I moved out of town)

Rachel is amazing! She is very affirming, yet pushes you to challenge yourself. She believes in your ability and teaches techniques that are suited to your unique vocal talent and ability. She also provides helpful explanations and works with you to find ways of understanding your body that make sense to you. Very intelligent and caring as well. If I still lived in the same city as her, I would be taking lessons with her now!

Joyce M.

Royersford, PA

Experienced music teacher available for eager violin and viola students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, and also build a strong foundation of listening, playing, and reading skills. I specialize in classical style and typically use Sevcik, Wohlfahrt, Schradiek, and Hrimaly study books. Students who want to use online tutorials like SmartMusic can get support during lessons.

About Joyce

I started teaching violin when I was 13 years old, but my professional career began when I went to Temple University in Philadelphia as a music major. My purpose was to become a music teacher with a concentration on violin. I learned to play every instrument and loved it, even though I really I struggled with the piano.

I've worked with hundreds and hundreds of students over the past 30 years in private lessons, small groups, string ensembles and symphonic orchestra.

My goal has always been to help students understand HOW to learn to coordinate their brain, body, ears, eyes, and voice
to work together, using an instrument as an expressive musical tool.

I am currently employed as a music teacher in Pennsylvania, and I have the professional certifications and background check documents required of PA teachers.

I had the honor of being Miss Magann's student for four years at Methacton High School. She has a passion for music and wants each of her students to excel. Whenever I had an issue with a specific part in a song, she would take the time to help me. There were a few times I needed help outside of the classroom with music theory and music I was playing outside of school. I asked Miss Magann if she could help me and she took time out of her day to do so. I love her techniques. I still use them today in college and in personal practice. She is realistic and understands individual's musical abilities. I would definitely recommend Miss Magann as a string teacher!
