Glenn S.

Long Beach, CA

I teach all levels and styles: contemporary, Hawaiian, jazz, Japanese, etc.

About Glenn

Hi, I'm Glenn. Thank you for viewing my profile. I've been teaching students for over 20 years, playing all styles and levels of music, from day-one beginners to seasoned pros seeking to sharpen their playing skills. I teach both traditional notation and tablature, writing my own teaching methods in both formats. I can transcribe any song or solo for you, and can arrange the music to fit your particular level of skill. I earned a B.A. in Music Composition and an A.A. in music theory, and have worked as a professional musician since graduation. I play in a variety of bands that cover rock, jazz, surf, oldies, and country, and also write and arrange music for those bands as well as writing my own music that can be heard on my own YouTube channel. The first song I learned to play ...

My sister bought 5 months of ukulele lessons for my 7-old-daughter as a gift and it has been a wonderful experience! At first, I was a little unsure of how online lessons would work out, especially for a 7-year-old, but Glenn kept my daughter engaged and fielded all technical challenges with grace and skill. He introduced things clearly and systematically, but I was most impressed with his sensitivity to appeal to my daughter's particular interests. Rather than giving her canned kiddy beginner pieces to start with (which certainly would have been easier for him), he asked what songs she liked and then transposed them himself to her level. That takes effort and dedication and really sets Glenn apart. Furthermore, Glenn met Jackie's brother one day and learned that he plays guitar and asked if they wanted something to play together. He evaluated my son's level and again, transposed a wonderful little arrangement for them to play together. It was wonderful that they had such an opportunity and everyone in the family loved getting to hear their duet. Glenn has truly succeeded in establishing a genuine interest in this instrument for my daughter, and I am grateful and touched by the way he tailored a program just for her. She has enjoyed the lessons very much and says she wants to go to California and meet Glenn face-to-face one day.

I am very impressed with Glenn's teaching abilities. I am a retired, previous guitar player who put down the guitar in the early 80s and decided to try to get back some of the skills that I still remember. Glenn is doing that and more. Teaching me new styles and the foundations behind them.

My son is 7 years of age and has never received any music lessons. I bought him a guitar for his birthday and he was just happy to play with it without any guitar lessons. I convinced him otherwise. I did not know what to expect from Glenn. I knew about him because he was highly recommended in our Long Beach neighborhood. I signed my son up and after a few minutes of being with Glenn, my son was hooked. He came away from his first 30 minute session saying, “wow…I did not know I could play the guitar!”. My son was so excited. As a parent…that is very exciting! I was sold! I was amazed how he was able to pick up what Glenn taught him within that first lesson. Glenn made it fun. The atmosphere was very relaxed and his style of teaching clicked with my son right away. After basically 12 sessions, my son was able to perform at a musical recital Glenn hosted for his students. Not only was I proud of my son, I also got to see kids of all ages and adults performing that day and it was pretty impressive. Overall, I highly recommend Glenn. He is able to keep my 7 year old boy focused and teaches him effectively while making it fun!

Byron T.

Brea, CA

I teach Ukulele in a way that allows the student to cross over easily to the guitar. This can be especially helpful if the student is too young to start guitar but still want to pick up an instrument. Ukulele is a great way to prepare for guitar.

About Byron

Music and music teaching is my first love and passion in life. (Feel free to check out my video and music!) To be able to study and play the guitar for the last 11 years has been an immense blessing! I am a guitar teacher with a degree in music from Biola University, La Mirada. I have been teaching lessons privately almost 9 years now. My musical journey began in the 6th grade when my parents purchased a nylon string classical guitar for me. Throughout my high school and college years I participated in contemporary rock ensembles for corporate worship at my church and other churches. This included leading and singing as well. While enrolled at

Byron is an amazing teacher! Thanks to Byron, our son, who is autistic-high functioning, is learning far more than how to play the guitar. He is learning to sit in a chair for a half an hour, is learning to focus on notes and strings, and is learning to love music! It’s an amazing sight to see! We are grateful that our son, and others with special needs, can also learn to play the guitar. We appreciate Byron’s patience and fun approach. Teachers with his character and abilities are hard to find. Byron is a true blessing and gifted teacher. We highly recommend him to everyone!

Great guitar lessons

Mr. Byron has been the perfect match for both my boys! He began teaching my 10 year old a year ago. Before, Mr. Byron, my son had been through 2 other guitar teachers but neither one could get him to play. Mr. Byron was able to strike my son's interest by tapping into songs he enjoyed listening to and later bringing them to life on the guitar. As a result of Mr. Byron's great teachings, my 6 year old son was inspired to begin ukulele lessons with him. Mr. Byron is a great teacher! His passion and love for music will definitely inspire yet challange his students to more than meet their goals!

Excellent with kids!

Our son has had Byron for 2 1/2 years now and really enjoys having him as his guitar teacher. He always gives us feedback as to how he is doing and really engages our son during his lessons. We highly recommend him as a teacher in this capacity.

Rodrigo is the best teacher! He has a keen understandings of main concepts of music and showed me the proper postures and fingerings of the instrument. While he was teaching me how to play the instrument, he also introduced me a various genres and styles of music. He is very knowledgeable of music theory such as chord transpositions, terminology, as well as the musical notations. He also was willing to modify the lessons to meet my needs and abilities so that I can be successful. He truly is a multi-talented teacher and very very nice one, too. I've only had three lessons with Rodrigo but so far all of them have exceeded my expectations of a music instructor. Rodrigo is a great guy and accordionist. I like how I'm learning music theory along with my instrument because it will help me if I decide to learn more instruments. Thanks Rodrigo!
