David D.

Scottsdale, AZ

Over the years I have developed techniques that streamline this learning process. In all honesty, I can take you from having never touched a bass before, to playing with a band in 4 months.

About David

I've been playing guitar since I was 9 years old and teaching guitar since I was 14. I grew up playing in bands with friends. My parents would drive us (and a ton of equipment!) to wherever we were playing, which was sometimes 50 to 200 miles from home! I later did studio work and played as a solo entertainer. I also studied acting while in college, so being on stage and performing is very comfortable for me.
I have extensive experience in teaching both individuals and groups with regard to several different venues, including guitar, bass guitar, acting, public speaking, songwriting and stu
dio recording.
I also provide a unique service that my students tell me is very helpful. I record instructions, or demonstrations, and email them to you - on the spot! This way you don't get home and wonder "Now how did that go?" or, " How was I able to do that?" You just open the email and listen to it – whenever you like.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is geared toward each individual student. Everyone has different specific interests and desired outcomes, so my lessons are based on your priorities and your goals. Beginning with your first lesson you should feel inspired and excited! Even if you are just beginning to learn an instrument, you need to have a teacher who can supply you with what you need AND have you playing things that you like within a very short time.
This applies to all types of music; rock, standards, folk, metal, classic rock, popular, country, whatever you want to play. Beginner or advanced. So it's up to you -- just tell me what you want to get out of the lessons, and that is what we do! I may be the instructor, but YOU are the director.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Martin 1963 "000-18" acoustic guitar
Fender Telecaster electric guitar
Acoustic Amplifier (Acoustic is the brand name)
Digital Recorder (portions of lessons are recorded & emailed to you)
Digital Video Recorder (portions videoed and emailed to you)
All music, tab, and diagrams are supplied at no additional cost

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar, sheet music, diagrams, and any and all notes pertinent to what we work on. I supply everything but the guitar that you are playing.

*** Specialties ***
Electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar. Rock, folk, gospel, country, finger-picking, vocal accompaniment, improvisation, lead guitar.

Dave is an amazing teacher and I can't thank him enough for all he has taught me. I had to take a short break for personal reasons, but will not hesitate to go back to him as soon as I can restart. He is very knowledgeable and a great player and tailors the learning around songs you want to play so to keep you engaged and having fun. Great learning environment in a nice neighborhood I highly recommend Dave if you are wanting to learn how to play!

We're gonna play some grooves and HAVE FUN! I'm a professional musician and have been a performing bassist for over 20 years, and I hope to pass along some of my knowledge and expertise to you. I customize your lessons to your needs and what you want to do with your ability to play bass. I can prepare you for any genre as I include fundamentals (for example, scales and arpeggios) in your practice. I use these books for reference and/or lesson work:
- Hal Leonard's Bass Method-Books 1, 2 & 3 (Ed Friedland)
- Mel Bay's Deluxe Jazz & Rock Bass Method (Vincent Bredice)
I can help you learn how to play with a pick, how to "slap & pluck," how to sing and play simultaneously, and even how to sightread.

About Robert

Hey there! I've been performing music for as long as I remember. (I used to give concerts for all the family gatherings!) I've been formally performing in music for over 30 years. I have formal training and 8 years of teaching experience. I teach with positivity, patience, and perseverance and help you express the music in you!

*** Lesson Details ***
All of my lessons are customized to your needs, preferences and goals. No matter what instrument or skill level, I'll take you through the basics and help you build solid practicing fundamentals. I'll also help you develop your performa
nce and, depending on how serious you'd like to get, I can also teach you to read music and learn music theory as well! I balance learning and technical skill with fun and self-expression.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a dedicated music room, stocked with guitars, basses, and practice amp, keyboard and computers with recording software.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Keyboard, practice amp, and/or instrument cords. I expect the student to provide his/her own instrument, and prefer they have an amplifier for electric instruments.

*** Specialties ***
I teach in all genres, but have experience in rock, alternative, pop, jazz, and even music theater.

Richard C.

Phoenix, AZ

About Richard

I started taking piano lessons at the ripe age of 4, but I quickly found my calling on the guitar. At the age of 20, and with 13 years of playing experience, I graduated from the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery (guitar building), after building both an acoustic and an electric guitar and receiving repair certification from Fender.
I later completed my Bachelor’s Degree of Music in the field of classical guitar performance, at ASU in 2007.
During this time I expanded to other instruments such as the Ukulele, Banjo, Mandolin, Dulcimer and Bass Guitar.

I am involved with a number of extra mu
sical activities that are available for you. First, I am part of a weekly jam session where my students meet and jam on a rotation with other music students in the phoenix area (drummers, singers, piano players, other guitarists of all ages) From this has spawned a number of bands. It's a lot of fun! So if you have any interest in starting a band and don't know where to find other players, let me know!

Also, I arrange and conduct for an electric guitar ensemble. This class is by far, one of a kind. In this program, I take classical symphonies and arrange all the parts out for electric guitars. Recently, my students just completed Bizet's "Farandole" (check out the audio clip) which I arranged for four electric guitars and one bass guitar. The ensemble program is more detailed oriented than the jam session, so this class is by audition only.

*** Lesson Details ***
I enjoy Bach and Beethoven, but I still love a good old- fashioned heavy metal band. I have a keen sense of constructive criticism, all while still remembering what it’s like to be a beginner. I pride myself on a teaching style that is refined, yet relaxed. I love to joke around and have fun, but remember, your recital is just around the corner!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room w/ keyboard, guitar, bass, amps, banjos, and seating for parents. Small inventory of guitar supplies available for purchase.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide handouts and bring my own instruments. Students are required to have their own instrument

*** Specialties ***
I have always believed that improvisation is one of the best ways to learn a fret board. Improv allows the player to just dive in to playing, without having to stare at a piece of paper the whole time. Out of all the things I have been trained to do, I feel that improvisation is my strong point.

Dylan C.

Phoenix, AZ

I have been playing electric bass for about 6 years, primarily in a worship band setting. I've been an instructor for Worship Catalyst, teaching at camps in Arizona and California. If you're interest in learning some basic fundamentals, music theory, and improving your playing, then let's take a lesson together!

About Dylan

Trombonist Dylan played his first notes in the state of Texas, and music has allowed him to perform in other cities, states, and even on an international tour of China. A student at the University of Arizona, Carpenter has performed with the University’s Arizona Symphony in multiple sold-out operas, shared the stage at Crowder and Centennial hall with artists such as Bill Watrous, Andy Narell, Michael Davis, and Ben Vereen, and leads his section as Principal in the Wind Ensemble. As a soloist, he made his debut when he was 18, at Sahuarita High School with the Concert Band. Through his studies
, Carpenter has become a versatile musician and a master of many styles.
Dylan’s passion from music stems from the drive he has for enjoying life and all it has to offer.
Mr. Dylan is earned his Bachelor of Music Performance degree at The University of Arizona, where he studied under Moisés Paiewonsky.

Videos of his playing can be found below.

I was in band with Dylan in high school. He was always the best player, and whenever our director was gone, she had him run rehearsal while the sub just sat and watched. Everyone in the band liked him and looked up to him.

Dylan taught my son at Great Expectations Academy about four years ago, when he was in middle school. I couldn't be more proud of my son's improvement, and David always was always very happy coming home from school when Dylan came in to teach lessons.

My goal as a teacher is to help establish flawless technique and provide the knowledge necessary to develop the students own voice throughout their musical journey. I am a patient and relaxed teacher but I do cater a very structured course specifically for each student. I recommend learning Music Theory as well as Sight Reading but it is by no means a requirement. I am a life long bassist and one of very few actual bass instructors. I hope to hear from you!

About Joe

Joe is a professional gigging musician and music instructor who is proficient in many styles of music and specializes in Funk, Rock, and Experimental. Joe started playing when he was 5 years old and began gigging at a young age. He went on to study Music at the LA College of Music. While in LA he taught college level students as well as intermediate and beginner. He is now based out of Phoenix Arizona. Joe's goal as a teacher is to help establish flawless technique and provide the knowledge necessary to develop the students own voice throughout their musical journey.

Joe has been really patient and helpful with helping me gain a solid understanding of basic music principles. He is very knowledgeable and resourceful. Not only did he teach me how to play music I like while focusing on technique and understanding progressions, but expanded my interests through sharing music from famous bassists that I had never heard of.
