About Kathryn

Actors - Singers
My job is to work with you to help you realize your dream as an actor or music artist. I am moved by the amount of work the actors I work with are booking. Congratulations, guys! Actors, we will work on monologues, scenes and cold readings and auditions technique to grow your craft. Singers and Artists, bring your voice and instruments. Don't have one? I do!
I am a Critic's Circle Award Winning Actor and Singer, Published Songwriter and Recording Artist, trained in New York City and at Cincinnati College Conservatory ( that's on of those incredible schools where 13 out of
about a thousand are accepted ) of Music and Los Angeles. I have been lucky to work with some incredible people and you will be one of them!
If you're looking for a coach to work with from the ground up or looking for an advanced acting or singing performance coach, let’s talk. I am a member of Sag-Aftra and Actors Equity Association. If you don’t have access to a teacher where you live, you absolutely can study effectively online. You deserve to study acting or music performance and you deserve a place in my studio. Auditioning for colleges or agents, planning your move to Los Angeles or NYC or working where you are and need to start studying and to begin in the business or need audition help in a hurry? Let's get to work.
I'll not only collaborate with you to stretch your acting chops but I'll also help you understand the industry and how you fit in to it. We will work on audition prep, monologues, scenes, singing performance and we will find out who you are and how you show up in the biz. I am generous with what I know. I care about you, the artist. See my bio below.
For Parents of Minors:
I'm available to help you understand this somewhat confusing industry. I was a young actor/performer in the industry myself.

More about Kathryn
I studied at Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music (CCM). In New York City I was under the care of opera teacher, Leona Matthews, famed acting teacher and director, Word Baker and Edward Morehouse as a student at HB Studio in NYC and Mark Monroe in San Francisco and Los Angeles. I have my own writing doc, the revered Dr. Joyce Block. I work as a recording artist and writer. And I’m lucky to work as a concert artist, too. I began teaching in the early 90's in San Francisco with Mark Monroe, after co founding Mark Monroe Studios. MM Studios began originally in 1987 when I and Mr. Monroe packed their studio, by word of mouth, and when the studio totaled six hundred and fifty actors; they added a studio in Los Angeles. I have been coaching actors and musicians and developing artists ever since. Extended bio upon request.
My background in acting and singing performance comes from the Method. Musicians, Bring or have (online) your instrument.

My lessons with Kelly were the highlight of my week. She always made me feel comfortable and supported, which gave me the security I needed to progress. Kelly put in the extra effort to find music that I enjoyed singing and songs that would help me stand out in an audition. I highly recommend her as a teacher!!

I have two degrees in Music, one from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England. I've been active on classical choral and early music recordings and therefore I get to vote in the GRAMMYs ... my high school students usually help me to consider the Best New Artist category although I have strong opinions of my own because I love pop music too! I teach beginning piano, and all levels of
singing. I've raised two great kids of my own and am married to another professional musician. I love helping people to bring more music into their lives!

Introduction to Voice Acting: Books & Resources to Check Out
When it comes to the performing arts, voice acting attracts some of the most fiercely dedicated enthusiasts, despite the relative anonymity compared to acting on stage or on screen. In the old days, radio dramas were the most common inspiration for aspiring voice actors. Today, it’s animation. The key component of voice acting, even more than secrecy and seclusion, is versatility. An in-demand voice actor may be called upon to provide the pipes for a cartoon rabbit in a kid's show on Friday, a
Acting Tips: What's in your Toolbox?
As with any profession, actors have tools. Just as a doctor needs a stethoscope or a fireman needs a hose, there are certain items an actor must keep in their toolbox. I usually start classes or lessons by asking my new students or clients what they think these tools might be. Sometimes, the answer is very literal ("Script!"), and other times abstract ("Passion!"). None of these is a wrong answer. Being an actor or artist is subjective and everyone's process is different and valid. But th
