About Carey

I have taught over 250 private voice students in Boston, CT, New York City, and Lakewood Ranch, FL. Carey is currently working with our 9yo daughter. She has built a wonderful rapport, is very patient, and has helped our daughter's interest in music blossom into full fruition. It's truly wonderful to see our daughter having fun doing something she loves, and it takes a special teacher to make that happen with kids. Highly recommend.

Annie A.

Bradenton, FL

About Annie

I have been teaching in different capacities for 30 years. I have two 60 credit Masters in Music in Jazz Performance and in Composition. I lived in Europe for 16 years where I performed with my ensemble in Germany, Russia and the United States. Upon my return, I did my graduate schooling and became a music teacher. I taught in Westport, Ct, at Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie and in the New York City Department of Education. I have led many a Chorus and have taught Strings and Band. There is nothing I love more than seeing my students grow through their study of music. I have seen
children develop in so many ways! They grew in self-worth as well as academically and I saw them maturing into fine human beings.

I have seen my own enthusiasm for learning and discovery transmitted to my students.
I believe that music affects the whole person and that each student is unique. I have given workshops in Multiple Intelligence and will tailor the lessons to the students best learning capabilities. Most of all, it will be fun!

*** Lesson Details ***
First of all I will share with the student that music is a language and with this language one can express one's innermost self. It's so much fun to "crack the code" and learn to "speak" in music. The first lesson will be spent in sharing a bit about ourselves as we will be working together to reach the student's goals.

We will talk about the instrument be it voice, piano or another instrument and I will try to communicate the level of respect one must have for their instrument. That it is one of their best friends. We will always have fun, but it should be clear that this is a journey of discovery and each step will bring the student closer to his/her goal so there should be a willingness and a commitment to give to this goal. Practice will be strongly encouraged. I will help them create a practice schedule and give them assignments. After 3-6 months, they will have learned to sing/play while reading, but they also will have learned to compose and create new pieces of music. I find that this keeps the enthusiasm alive as well as helping them grow enormously as a musician.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to have an instrument and a music stand. I can arrange to acquire the instructional booklets when needed

*** Specialties ***
Masters in Jazz

Natasha W.

Clearwater, FL

About Natasha

My name is Natasha and I am a certified tutor in reading, math, writing, language and grammar just to name a few subjects. I enjoy helping and watching children gain confidence in areas that were once a challenge. I make learning fun and comprehensive, but most of all memorable. I promise you won't be disappointed.
I also enjoy giving acting lessons because it broadens your versatility and hones in on skills that are sometimes suppressed. Acting pushes you to think, perform, project, engage and entertain and I absolutely love it and you will too.

Thanks!!

Christine A.

Sarasota, FL

About Christine

About Improv:
Improv is a form of theater where everything is made up on the spot. Nothing is scripted, everything is made up in the moment using suggestions from the audience.

About Christine Alexander:
I am committed to providing a safe and courageous place for people to have fun and play. I have been performing since 2001 and in 2003 began directing students from ages 5 to 84. My passion is to share the incredible art form of improv with excitement and humor.

Improv is a great learning tool for team building, spontaneity, listening, being present, speaking to groups, communicating
one on one, saying yes and so much more. It helps that each game played builds upon the next to reinforce the learning.

Improvisers fail forward. We embrace "failure" because we have found a stepping stone. A stepping stone we want to remember not to step on again. We have to fail in order to succeed.

What you get:
One-on-One - 1 hour of discussion / rehearsal with Christine - working on improv performance skills or personal communication skills. At the end of the session, you will be armed with new tools to face the issues you are having.

Improv Troupe Notes - 1 hour - for improv troupes needing an outside eye for notes, direction and ideas for marketing your troupe. At the end of the session, you will have new games and ideas to move your troupe forward.

Custom Course - 1 hour or weekly - Tell me what you would like to improve. Character choices? Initiations? Storyline? You tell me.

Improv empowers people. Let's empower each other. Call me today. ;)

Christine is an incredible teacher, wonderful person, and a great actor. She's fun, positive, creative and extremely talented. I've taken a beginner's improv class with her, and she really helped me overcome my natural shyness. SWFL is very lucky to have such a shining star!

Acting Tips: What's in your Toolbox?

As with any profession, actors have tools. Just as a doctor needs a stethoscope or a fireman needs a hose, there are certain items an actor must keep in their toolbox. I usually start classes or lessons by asking my new students or clients what they think these tools might be. Sometimes, the answer is very literal ("Script!"), and other times abstract ("Passion!"). None of these is a wrong answer. Being an actor or artist is subjective and everyone's process is different and valid. But th … Read More
