"My son has been working with Kelly for over a year. Kelly is an awesome teacher. She is always trying to come up with something new to keep my son engag
ed. This is not an easy task as my son has ADHD and can become easily distracted. She has given my son increased confidence and improved his acting chops. Sometimes he has off days due to his anxiety. If he is having an off day when he visits Kelly, she always manages to lift his spirits. He comes out of his lessons excited, happy, and full of life. Kelly has also made some great videos for us to share with family and friends. I simply cannot say enough wonderful things about Kelly! We are lucky to have found her."

"Stephanie is an amazing Acting Coach/ Teacher. The best I've every worked with. She creates a very fun and comfortable environment for her actors, but k
nows when to get serious, and when to raise the stakes. Stephanie is persistent in getting her actors to the point of really understanding the characters and the difference I've seen her bring out is remarkable."

"Ms. Mozhgan Hudiburgh, or Mojy has a lot to share with her students. She is very energetic, polite, friendly, classy and flexible. She taught my daughter
"Belly Dance" and "Persian Dance" in a very short time and in the most fun way. She knows a lot about the culture, dance, music, religion of both American and Persian/ Mediterranean people. My daughter loves her a lot and she wouldn't change anything about Mojy and she wouldn't replace her with anyone. She has already learned a lot from Mojy. Mojy is very nice to kids and understands the kids' world. Mojy teaches the dance using the folklore terminology of the dance and music. She translates the songs into English for us to have a better understanding and feeling of this rich cultural dance and moves. She has her adorable own-created moves . We enjoy being around her and her teaching style. I am going to learn Persian and Mediterranean cooking from her, too. :-)"
I believe in the extraordinary power of music to communicate, to inspire and, often, to heal. That belief inspires all my work.
My goal is to help you find the power to express express through singing your unique self. It doesn't matter whether your voice is professional quality or whether it's even "good" in the conventional sense. It's YOUR voice. It has its own sound and characteristics, its own particular beauty, and the world needs to hear you!
Whether you want to be a professional or audition for your school musical, NYSSMA, All-State chorus, college and conservatory, or whether
you just want to have fun and hit those high notes in the shower, I would love to help you.
I'm a classically trained leading soprano who has had the great good fortune to sing masterpieces with such companies as the Caramoor Music Festival, Glimmerglass Opera and the Aspen Music Festival. I also have undergraduate and master's degrees from Brown University and the Manhattan School of Music.
But don't let the fact that I'm an "opera singer" give you the wrong idea. Yes, strict classical training gives me in-depth understanding of how the human voice works, but I love and teach music of all genres. My students include professional opera singers, yes, but also rock and Broadway-style singers, college and conservatory students, teenagers singing in their school musicals, doing All-State chorus, or preparing for NYSSMA, as well as adults who are taking voice for the love of singing, the fun of the challenge and so they can join their local chorus or sound great on karaoke night.
Above all, the most important qualities I offer as a teacher are the simple human ones: understanding, patience, imagination, kindness, enthusiasm, respectfulness and absolute commitment to helping you meet your vocal goals.

I tailor my lessons to each singer's particular interests, goals and challenges. Some students thrive with a highly technical approach; some thrive in a less formal, more supportive environment; most singers do best with an approach that mixes the two. The important thing to know is that you will receive lessons that are specifically tailored to you. There's no single template.
*** Specialties ***
For advanced classical singers I have a great depth of experience and wide knowledge of oratorio, opera, German lied and French, English and American art songs. I also have a specialized background in "performance practice" baroque and classical vocal ornamentation.
For all singers, I am also a superb acting coach!

Spent a lot of time going over my musical background and getting to know me in general. Made an assessment of my vocal ability, potential strengths and weaknesses that seemed accurate to me. Proposed a lesson plan to develop my singing that seemed reasonable and practical given my goals.

I have a Master's degree in Music Therapy, am a nationally board certified music therapist (MT-BC); performer and vocal instructor (Bachelor's in Classical Voice); certified yoga instructor and meditation guide (200+); certified and attuned Reiki master; professional freelance writer and editor.
...I find joy in a lot of places! And often I find these areas of study inform and augment each other.
Music therapy has afforded me a great deal of experience working with children, teens, and adults with special needs including, autism, Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, emotional disturbances a
nd developmental delays as well as teens and adults with psychosocial issues, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, personality disorders, and more.
I incorporate my experience as a therapist into the educative setting.
As a voice teacher, I want to help my students settle comfortably into their own musicality by showing them the building blocks of a solid technique, drawing particularly from the things that helped me grow as a vocalist. I want my students to feel strong in their body, comfortable and relaxed in their breath, and confident in their performance.
I have worked professionally as an editor of scholarly writing on both the college and post-college level, as well as a professional editor of multiple dissertations, and other publications. Being a creative person, I find language to be a wonderful way to express thoughts and emotions as well as communicate deeply with others.
As a certified yoga instructor, I teach in many locations throughout Westchester. I was trained at Yoga Haven in Scarsdale, New York with Betsy Kase, and earned a 200-hour certificate in Asana, Pranayama, and Meditation. I offer private yoga instruction and meditation at my home studio. My studio comes fully equipped with all yoga props, aromatherapy, and music. Hands-on-assists and personalized classes offered to deepen your experience.
It is a joy to offer Reiki to curious, open clients in need of energy healing. Reiki is a noninvasive energy healing technique totally separate of any religious affiliation and available to anyone. It is a difficult to describe the relaxing, soothing, and deep-healing effects of Reiki to someone who has never experienced.

Jillian has been teaching my teenage son piano for several months. He is always prepared and eager to attend his weekly piano lessons. She has an intuitive ability to connect with him in and make him feel at ease and comfortable. I wish he had started at an earlier age. His musical experiences have certainly exceeded my expectations.

Mary is a Tony nominated writer, actress, and teacher whose Broadway credits include Martha Jefferson in "1776" and Grace Farrell in "Annie". She was a starring soloist In Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" at the Kennedy Center and the Metropolitan Opera and toured as featured vocal with Michel LeGand in concerts including Carnegie Hall. Off Broadway credits include her own musical, âÂÂCradle SongâÂÂ. Former Head of Drama at the Wooster School in Danbury CT, she studied acting with Sanford Meisner in NYC, the Rheinhardt Seminar in Vienna, Austria and has been teaching and directing young and
adult actors for over fifteen years. Former students have appeared on Thirty RockÂÂ, Gilmore GirlsÂÂ, Law and OrderÂÂ and others. She will help pick your material, improve your vocal technique, and coach your song and or monologue beat by beat until you are connected not only to the music, but to the text as well. She has a BA in theatre/voice from the University of Kansas where she serves on the Advisory Board For the Department of Theatre and Film and has an MFA from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts where she is a guest lecturer. She is a member of AEA, SAG/AFTRA, AGMA and The Dramatists Guild. "Ms. Mary is able to reach not only those students who are already excited about theater but inspire those who have no previous knowledge of it. To watch these young men and women become more and more accomplished is a marvelous thing. She inspired them all."...Mark St. Germain, Obie winning playwright.
*** Lesson Details *** In a one hour lesson, we will spend twenty five minutes on vocal exercises designed to teach support and placement. Having performed leads on and Off Broadway, I know that without good technique you can't do eight shows a week, do back to back sets in a nightclub or cabaret or tour as a pop or rock singer. The second half of the lesson is spent on songs. As an acting as well as vocal coach, I focus on dramatics as well as musical interpretation. A singer must be connected to the words as well as the music. I hope to teach you to love singing as much as I do.
*** Studio Equipment *** casio keyboard, speakers, desk, extensive library of scripts and sheet music, internet
*** Specialties *** pop and musical theatre singing college and theatre auditions/monologues and song performance

Mary Phillips is excellent! I highly recommend her. Her knowledge of technique and her ability to explain it's proper applications helped my daughter improve not only her vocal quality but her range. Mary also worked on building her self confidence and attitude. I've notice a significant improvement in her approach to auditions. She is less nervous and more confident in her skills. We had a hard time trying to find an instructor who values someone with a lower range. I wish we had found her earlier!

Mary was an absolute godsend! I started lessons with her to help prepare for college theatre auditions. I was so overwhelmed with the whole process and didn't even know where to begin picking monologues and songs. Mary helped me so much by sending different monologues that she thought would fit and we would go from there. She was always there to answer any questions I had, and I had a lot! She is patient and encouraging and our lessons were always a lot of fun but I also learned so much! I also took voice lessons from Mary and in doing so, my voice has greatly improved and so has my confidence. I just finished all of my auditions and I truly could not have done this without her. I couldn't recommend her more!
I absolutely love working with students to instill and encourage confidence and the joy of music. I graduated from school with a degree in Vocal Performance & Theater Performance. Not only have I performed in numerous musicals and stage productions, I've been able to sing solo, and in both small and large ensembles in nearly every state in the US and all over the world (including Austria, Germany, Canada, and Costa Rica). I have since moved on from performing because I love sharing my passion and enthusiasm for voice with my students! I have been teaching voice since my senior year of high sch
ool. After some pedagogy training in college, I moved on to teach several students out of my home studio in Baltimore and now in New York. I incorporate aspects of classical and contemporary music to make learning both beneficial and fun! I love making music and I hope to share the joy of singing with each student.
*I have returned from maternity leave and may need to have my baby present at the lesson (playing off to the side, of course).

Meagan is very skilled, knowledgeable, and patient. She both challenged me and made my lessons fun- something to look forward to each week. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher.
Dani G. January 11, 2015
Our daughter (6) started taking piano lessons with Meagan a few months ago and we have been very impressed with how things are going. Meagan is prompt, polite, patient, and kind. She knows how to explain musical concepts at a basic level for our daughter to make sure she understands and learns the foundations. We highly recommend her!
