About Jessie
Thank you for your interest in lessons! I hope to help you achieve your goals and improve your skills, whether you're looking for music lessons, help in math, or need someone to proofread your essay before you turn it in. Every student is a unique person who deserves a lesson customized to their individual needs. Each of my students prospers in an atmosphere of patience and encouragement. While the lessons are fun and enjoyable, the serious student will be supported in the development of skills leading to a rewarding career, and the more casual students will grow in an appreciation of knowled
ge that will always enrich their lives.

I have been tutoring and teaching private lessons for over five years, and currently have over 40 active students. I received my bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis on vocal performance at the University of Redlands in 2011, and my Associate of Arts degree in 2008 from College of the Desert. Currently I teach online, locally, and at my studio, and cover a variety of subjects such as voice, music, theater, piano, math, english, music theory, just to name a few.

For academic tutoring (i.e. math, theory, vocabulary) I work on helping the student understand their homework and help prepare them for tests. I can also provide worksheets if necessary and am prepared to demonstrate problem areas in different ways if needed, because everyone learns differently. For voice, piano, music, and acting lessons I teach the student based on what their current level is. If you have no experience, that's okay! My lessons are uniquely designed to fit your needs no matter what level you may be.

As a music major I developed a deeper understanding of music theory, piano, voice, and theater. I received my A.A. in Music at College of the Desert and my Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Redlands- which I attended on a music scholarship. I have played leading roles in several operas and musicals in Southern California, including Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus, La Boheme (DTL nominee), The Impresario, The Grand Duke, Patience (DTL award), Cosi fan tutte, Little Women, Seussical, and many more. I have also appeared in several concerts, opera scenes, competitions (winning music scholarships and theater awards), and worked as a singer in churches, restaurants, and in pop bands. I continue to stay active in the performance industry, because performing is a part of who I am and I could never live without it!

With this experience under my belt, I feel a desire to pass on my knowledge to students. I carry a strong passion to help people develop their abilities and make them their own. I truly believe that if someone wants something out of life they will achieve it with dedication, perseverance, confidence, and by having fun doing it!

*Note: My home office has a lot of stairs and also two cats that live with me. If you are disabled or have a feline allergy, please consider in-home lessons or lessons online.

About Jessie
Hello! I'm Jessie, and I'm a freelance singer and teacher in the Los Angeles area.

I received my M.M. in Voice from the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) at the University of Cincinnati, and B.M. in Opera Performance from CSU Long Beach.

I have taught beginning to intermediate piano, and beginning to advanced voice for the past three years now, and I love it! Although I specialize in opera and classical vocal technique, I enjoy and teach a variety of genres of music, and encourage a healthy technique with minimal tension.

Currently I sing with the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and ha
ve also sung with the Chicago Symphony Chorus, Music of the Baroque, and Cincinnati Opera. Check out my website for more information about me at www.jessieshulman.com

I teach private lessons in the LA/San Fernando valley area, and am available to teach both piano and voice, no matter your experience level! My approach is to focus on healthy, easy singing and/or playing. Correct posture, breath, and technique are fundamentals of a healthy instrument. I also have experience with the Alexander Technique, and incorporate its many benefits into my teaching. I am comfortable teaching various styles; whether it's pop, rock, classical, or musical theater, I would love to help you achieve your singing and piano playing goals! Please feel free to contact me with any questions, and I will happily answer them!

About Christina
My name is Christina and I am very passionate about the vocal arts, specifically Opera. Opera was a surprise in my life that I discovered in college. It moved me to a point where I knew it was what I wanted to pursue. Though singing classically takes great patience, discipline, and perseverance, that 5 minutes on stage projecting pure vocal freedom and expression make it well worth it. The classical technique can provide a great foundation to healthy singing, which can ensure a long vocal life.
Along side opera, I believe basic knowledge in piano is extremely beneficial in improving musicali
ty and an understanding of each piece. Piano greatly improves sight reading and ones ability to learn music quickly and efficiently. It can allow one to develop an understanding of harmony and context within each unique piece of music.
I have recently started teaching and would love to help and guide those interested in music, specifically classical voice, opera, musical theater, and piano. I would love to share the great joy it brings me with others and pass down what I have learned over the years. I have completed courses in music pedagogy and education alongside my degree, and believe in shaping my lessons around each individual's learning style so that each student may continue to grow while having fun.

3 Drama Games for Learning Method Acting
Method acting requires you to fully embrace your transformation into your character. To create an authentic experience for your audience, you need to lose the speech inflections, facial expressions, and physical mannerisms that wouldn't make sense. For example, when an actor plays a depressed man, his cynical speech won't be convincing if he delivers it with perfect, confident posture. When Hollywood stars stay in character between takes, or improv comedians wear disguises to interact with un
Acting Tips: What's in your Toolbox?
As with any profession, actors have tools. Just as a doctor needs a stethoscope or a fireman needs a hose, there are certain items an actor must keep in their toolbox. I usually start classes or lessons by asking my new students or clients what they think these tools might be. Sometimes, the answer is very literal ("Script!"), and other times abstract ("Passion!"). None of these is a wrong answer. Being an actor or artist is subjective and everyone's process is different and valid. But th

You Know You're An Actor When...
Actors are an incredibly diverse group of people, but because we love to act, we actually have a lot in common! Whether you're working in theater or film, you probably have more than one of these funny quirks and habits... You have headshots everywhere. If your acting career is important to you, you know that having headshots that accurately reflect what you currently look like is mandatory. Did you get a haircut? Time for new headshots! You are a master of the quick change.
