Timothy D.

Philadelphia, PA

About timothy

My name is Tim D. I am 27 years old and have a life long Musical devotion. I started playing the piano and drums at around 5 yrs of age. My grandfather was my main teacher as he was a working musician himself in traveling bands. When I was in junior high school I started to attend Settlement School of Music and studied there throughout my early teenage years. I served in the US army for four years and was able to use those benefits to pay for schooling when I got out. Now I am a double major in Music Education and Theory at Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance. I am curre
ntly studying piano under Dr Yanovitsky there at Temple also as my major is piano concentrated. I am looking to build my teaching resume and work with some motivated students and give them my inspiration and influence.

*** Lesson Details ***
Depending on the student, I will determine the type of teaching style that I will need to incorporate whether it be a disciplined or laid back style. Some students will show that they are motivated by working on the material given and having it prepared for the next lesson. After about a month of good productivity, I will see that I do not need to be as strict as the students that seem less interested. This will decide the way I go about making progress with a pupil. My teaching strategy starts with the student. I will ask them what they know, what they want to know, what types of music they like, and what types of music they want to play. With that being said there are some rudimentary attributes that need to be ingrained in a students musical mind. Some of these are note identification, identifying intervals, correct fingering for scales, hand and finger positioning, and good posture. I believe that starting a student out correctly can be a great step towards avoiding "bad habits" in piano playing which are very hard to stop once learned. We will start out with certain material that will be ideal for the student. This will of course be determined after the findings of where the student needs to be started. After about 3 to 6 months, a determined beginner will have a strong foundation that will be used to develop he or she into an exceptional musician. I believe in not only teaching notes on the keyboard but understanding music theory in general. For instance I may ask the student to sing the notes in a melody or even clap the rhythm so that there is no question in their mind of the musical language. It is important to get the student to understand rhythm and meter which are some of the building grounds of music theory. What I want in my students is for them to be well rounded musicians.

*** Travel Equipment ***
expect students to provide some type of keyboard

*** Specialties ***
I simply inquire and carry on the methods that I have been taught through out the years. I teach a variety of styles from Mozart to Ray Charles.

Mr D. is the best. He is very patient with both my girls. He redirects their attention whenever they get off topic. He is very easy to get in touch with if there is any scheduling conflicts. Both my girls ages 8 and 5 look forward to their lessons every week.

Great Teacher!

I started taking lessons with Tim last summer after taking a long break from playing piano. I am really enjoying my lessons and I'm learning more than I ever have from another teacher. He is very patient and structured in his teaching and also pushes me to my full potential. He also allows me to work on a mixture of pieces from popular songs that I like to classical music. I would highly recommend him.

Ryan S.

Philadelphia, PA

About Ryan

Born in raised on the south side of Chicago Illinois, I grew up listening to A LOT of great Chicago blues guitarists. After receiving my first acoustic guitar I quickly gravitated towards learning to play blues and blues rock guitar at the age of 13. As my hunger for knowledge grew, I began learning and studying other genres of music through private lessons and lesson videos in the styles of Progressive Rock, Shred, Funk, Fusion and Jazz. Music study was a way for me to find structure, discipline, self worth and expression not confined to a 40+hr work life. Through that I grew as a person and
a musician. My sole reason for teaching is to help others find that passion and those qualities within themselves to live a beautiful and fulfilling life through his/her instrument.”

Ryan's a great teacher. I'd recommend him to anyone who wants to learn to play. He's helped me fine tune the chords on my first song. Plus he can melt faces with his guitar solos.

Michael C.

Philadelphia, PA

About Michael

Michael C. was eleven years old when he began to play the electric bass guitar. He decided to get an electric bass because it was the one instrument needed to start a band among his friends. In addition to playing the electric bass, Michael enjoyed time practicing on the guitar and piano in high school. Transferring the knowledge and finger technique to the guitar came easy because of the similarities between guitar and the bass. And growing up with an upright piano in the house always lead to tinkering and eventually became a proficiency after college. In 1996 Michael enrolled at the the Phil
adelphia University of the Arts. He was awarded a presidential merit scholarship and a university grant based on his entrance audition. During his studies Michael was recruited for a student ensemble also know as Metagroove. During this time Michael had shared stages with guitarist John Scofield, Singer Ike Willis (Frank Zappa Band), Medeski Martin and Wood and The Disco Biscuits among countless others.

C. has completed a Master of Arts in music education as well as Bachelor of Music in bass performance. Michael is qualified to teach on bass, upright bass, guitar, drums, piano, voice and a rare instrument called steel pan (steel drum) among others. Michael performs as a freelance musician. He can be found performing regularly at private parties and events around the greater Philadelphia area. He has performed playing most styles and genres of music. Among these styles are Pop, R & B, Blues, Hip Hop, Jazz, Calypso, Flamenco, Latin, Pop, Musical Theater and Rock & Roll.

C. is a trained professional and prefers to cater his lessons to the individual need of each student. He believes that each student is unique and will encounter challenges in their own manner. Michael likes to supplement his lessons using musical interests of the student. C. has been known to arrange popular pieces for recital performances for his students. Some of the pieces he has arranged for his students include Something in the Way She Moves (Beetles), Long distance Run Around (The Who), Iron Man (Black Sabbath), That' €™s What Makes You Beautiful (One Direction), Hall of Fame (The Script) among many more. Michael encourages his students to use the music they love to challenge their ability and cognitive processes. Michael has the experience and training required to inspire and motivate you to become successful not only in music but in your daily endeavors.

*** Lesson Details ***
Michael has over twelve years experience teaching music and chooses to cater his lessons to the goals of his clients. He does not follow a set curriculum because different students tend to have different goals and expectations.

About Adam

I have been passionate about music all of my life. I have been teaching guitar and piano for 9 years. I'm a doctoral student at Chestnut Hill College pursuing a degree in clinical psychology with plans to become a music therapist. I learned guitar and classical piano under 2 private teachers while pursuing my Psychology degree and music minor at Rutgers University in NJ.

Music was a way for me to find peace, structure, confidence, and an outlet for personal expression and creativity outside of my everyday life. I've grown as a person and a musician through music. I get excited when I see
my students learn enjoy playing something new. I love music more than anything else and that love is something I try to bring out in my students. Once there is love for music, everything grows naturally. I teach to help my students find those strengths in themselves to live a fulfilling life through their instrument.

Adam is a GREAT instructor and I've been having a lot of fun learning piano with him. He really focuses on what it is you want to get out of your lessons and what you want to learn. I had some background with piano from childhood but Adam's taught me some music theory fundamentals that I hadn't learned before. Getting a lot out of it and highly recommend.

There are many talented guitarists, but there are few that are both talented and top-notch teachers like Adam. Adam is a patient instructor, knowledgable, and willing to design lessons to your musical interests. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Adam, and highly recommend him to anyone seeking lessons at any level.

Cant speak highly enough about Adam. I felt he went above and beyond for a guitar teacher. He challenged me to perform at an open mic fairly early (I couldnt play a full song before starting lessons) and took his own time to come support me. He teaches piano too and has a great understanding of music theory. This was big for me as music theory is fascinating to me. Our lessons were very relaxed and always left me excited to get home and practice more. My interest in guitar is fairly schizophrenic and I like to change focus all the time to cover as much ground in our precious weekly hour. Adam did a great job working with my idiosyncrasies and taught me a great amount in the few months we had lessons. (I moved out of town)

I am a beginner vocal student who 3 months ago started in-home studio lessons with Will, and continued with online lessons after I moved to another state. He is excellent at explaining and illustrating vocal concepts and techniques. And even if you are nervous and shy about singing (like I am), he is great at making you feel comfortable. He's also good at thinking on his feet and adaptable, as at times I have had erratic work schedules or had bad vocal strain after starting a new job. Thanks for all your support and optimism, Will! Hope your business continues to flourish.
