Jordan R.

Nashville, TN

Beginner to advanced instruction in core Bass Guitar techniques and principles. Fretboard memorization, rhythmic ideas, phrasing, playing with other people and jamming to recorded music, scales and arpeggios, and how to lock in with a drummer will all be covered in depth.

About Jordan

I received my education at the University of Wisconsin, majoring in Jazz Guitar. I've studied with some of the best guitarists in the Midwest, and have performed live and in recording studios all across the country in a variety of styles (Rock, Metal, Bluegrass, Jazz, Classical, Country). I've performed internationally, and my playing has been featured on several prime time television shows. I've always had a love of music, and it’s a passion that I try to instill in all of my students!

Through focus on note reading, chords, improvisation, and technique, I try to give my students tools that
they can take with them throughout their musical journey, whether playing music for fun or professionally!

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to be laid back and very individual with my approach. I always introduce a curriculum designed to teach basic chords, note reading, and basic theory, but I also understand that each student has a particular set of interests, and I want to inspire them to follow those interests. Whether it's Rock, Blues, Country, Folk, or Classical, I want to give my students the tools and understanding that they need to excel at the music that drives them.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to have everything that they need to practice the materials that I give them, including an instrument, amplifier and tuner if necessary, and a music stand. I provide all lesson materials.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in rock, country, metal, blues, and jazz with an emphasis on theory and technique.

Cameron C.

Nashville, TN

I have been teaching Bass Guitar for 3 years now and began to teach it naturally as I was already a Guitar teacher. I typically like to teach beginning students how to read notes on a staff and rhythms. Then I usually get into techniques that are specific to the bass. I am not the typical slap-bass style instructor because I see it as only useful in very specific instances. I will teach you how to have a really solid sense of time and how to have good note choices based on different styles

About Cameron

Cameron is a musician, teacher, and worship leader. He recently moved from Anaheim, CA 9 years ago to achieve a Bachelors Degree in Commercial Music at Belmont University and now resides in Nashville, TN.

Since 2004 I have gigged, recorded, and wrote/ co-wrote music in Nashville, TN. When I graduated in 2008 I went on the road for a couple years with an artist named Dave Hunt when I returned from the road I wasn't quite sure what to do next. I decided that I might enjoy teaching so for the last 4 years I have started small and built up my student base to around 30-35 students a week. I als
o teach high school music history and music theory at a home school tutorial and enrichment school in town. I simply use the college curriculum that I received and fine tune it for students from all levels of playing (basically like getting a college music lesson for much cheaper!)

"I have a passion and love for finding the best way to teach a new musical idea/technique/song, I am bold and will use the best way to teach you, based on your learning style."

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach multiple styles (jazz, pop, rock, latin, country, bluegrass, and classical) on the instruments listed on my page and love to teach songs, technique, and music theory in my lessons. I also throw in, if asked for, note reading, and ear training by transcription of staff notation and the Nashville number system.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Dedicated lesson space.
- Amplifiers for electric guitar and bass.
- Electric guitar, 2 Acoustic guitars, Classical Guitar, Ukulele, and Mandolin
- Audio Technica AT4040, Pre-Sonus TubePre, M-Audio Mobile USB DAC, Apple Mac mini, Logic DAW, and M1 Active Alesis Studio Monitors for Audio Recording.
-M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 for Piano playing.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring all curriculum. I expect each student to own the respective instrument that they are wanting to learn.

*** Specialties ***
I like to blend a basis of music theory in with my song instruction, and I teach blues, jazz, country, rock, bluegrass, and latin styles of music. Since I have experience as a working musician, having been playing rock music in live settings for about 8 years and also jazz music for 6 years with 4 years of jazz study at Belmont University, I would say I have gathered a wide range of musical styles and specialize in all of them.

I recently picked up guitar and have just concluded my 7th lesson with Cameron. He's done a great job at making the guitar fun and easy to understand. It is very clear that he is passionate about the instrument, and making sure that his students understand not only how to play certain songs but the theory behind them. It's been great having him as a teacher.

For years, I've wanted to play guitar and had picked up a very basic understanding of how to play along the way. Cameron quickly identified the things I knew and adapted each lesson to where my skill level was at. He was great at incorporating the things I wanted to know with the things I needed to know, and built my lessons from the meager understanding I already had. A great experience, all around. Highly recommended!

Great Success

As a middle-aged adult just getting started learning an instrument, I was concerned about how well I would do. Cameron makes the learning curve easy and with practical homework assignments along the way, immediate feedback is assured. Highly recommended

Shane S.

Nashville, TN

Bass Guitar: Beginner - Intermediate, all ages

About Shane

I began piano lessons at age 6. At age 9 my mom allowed me to take guitar lessons provided I continued with piano. By 12 it was just me and the six-string.

The first time I learned how to play guitar with one hand was from a hippie guitarist who sewed colored patches into his leather pants. One week’s lesson when I was 13 consisted of going into the teaching room, pressing play on the VCR and watching a video of Stevie Ray Vaughn live. That changed everything for me.

I founded various bands in my hometown and started teaching guitar lessons when I was 17. I taught all styles, ages, and
levels. After high school I received training in jazz guitar theory and performance at the Player’s School of Music in Clearwater, Florida and later studied guitar theory under a jazz guitar guru in Portland, OR.

After acquiring a business degree from Central Washington University and working a few years in global logistics I left the United States for missionary work and held several odd jobs including being a chauffeur, milking cows, and of course; teaching guitar lessons. While overseas I started a Guitar Club in the Maori village of Waharoa, NZ, performed for troops at Yokota U.S. Air Force Base in Fussa, Japan, and recorded music in Auckland, NZ for a YWAM compilation album.

Upon returning stateside I worked on a salmon fishing tender in the Bering Sea, and the skipper, a retired Nashville songwriter encouraged me to make the move to music city.

Since moving here I've recorded the Genrelicious EP, released several singles including 'Just Friends' and 'Blood on the Floor', (the latter for which I also released an official music video).

Currently I play for and write with several Nashville artists, play every second Saturday at Merridee's in Franklin, TN, and headline my 'Genrelicious Showcase' in various cities featuring artists of all styles and backgrounds.

*** Lesson Details ***
In the first lesson we will determine your current level, establish your desired goals, and then formulate a plan to get to where you want to go with guitar. There is one specific book that I use for almost all students which covers a broad spectrum of styles at all levels, and the rest of the material will vary depending on the goals we establish in the beginning, and your individual learning style.

I like to root a very solid foundation in basic music principles early on and then expand from there as this allows you to go as far as you desire with guitar music.

And while I don't employ the teaching method I do dig that old Suzuki philosophy, "Only practice on the days you eat."

*** Studio Equipment ***
Acoustic Guitars, Electric Guitars, Amps, Keyboard, Music Stands, Chairs, oh my!

*** Specialties ***
Acoustic, Electric, Rhythm, Lead, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Country; CAGED Method, Modal Theory

Learn popular bass lines as well as how to create your own

About Zander

I am a Nashville session musician, sideman and music teacher. I received a Bachelor of Music degree in Commercial Music with a Composition and Arranging Emphasis from Belmont University and I am currently pursuing a Masters in Music at MTSU. Coming from a family of Classical and Jazz musicians, I have been exposed to music my whole life. Over the years I have had the opportunity to play and record with many great bands and artists ranging from Country/Bluegrass to Rock to Jazz. I teach all genres of guitar, bass, banjo ukulele and mandolin.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe the ability to
play an instrument is only part of musicianship. I also strive to teach my students the theory behind the music they learn. I work hard to make sure that my students are doing everything in the easiest way possible. I want to ensure that they are able to progress quickly enough so that they can see the difference. The most rewarding moment as a teacher is when a student points out how hard something once was and how easy it has become.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music store environment. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I travel with all teaching equipment needed but a music stand is recommended for the lessons and for practicing.

*** Specialties ***
I am a very versatile teacher and player but I am often recommended based on my knowledge of Gypsy Jazz, Swing, bluegrass, country and rock teaching acoustic guitar, electric guitar, banjo, mandolin and ukulele

WOW - you guys read my mind so let me start with saying my teacher Alan is TERRIFIC - and I do mean TERRIFIC - when I first met him I felt so comfortable - his way of teaching is very patient and informative. Alan has a method of teaching that allows you to absorb valuable information while learning a skill. He makes the lessons simple and fun. Alan gives you the opportunity to learn at your own pace and that's wonderful for mature students that wish to learn something new. If I could - I would let everyone know that there is a chance to experience your musical dream - Just take a chance as a matter of fact take a Lesson.
