Ian C. Peabody, MA

About Ian

First, some exciting news! I just became a part of takelessons online lesson program, and now I can teach students from anywhere in the country! But I digress... Let's see, first and foremost I'm a music lover of the highest order. Whether it's jazz, rock, indie, classical, hip-hop or country, if it's good music, I love it. I grew up obsessively listening to everything i could get my hands on, and began playing guitar at the age of 11. That was cut short, though, when the next year I almost lost my middle finger on my left hand in an ice skating incident. It took 5 years for me to regain the strength and motion, during which time I was forced to give up guitar playing altogether. I never lost my passion for music, though, and in my heart i never stopped dreaming about what it ...

Great teacher and nice guy!

I started singing lessons as a complete beginner, although I am in my 30s. Ian was happy to teach me the basics and then we dove right in to something I was interested in learning to sing. He was easy to talk to and encouraging, but willing to point out what I could improve as well. I would recommend him to others.

Awesome teacher!!!

Took a couple singing lessons in the past with a different teacher and I didn't get very far. Ian has a great teaching style and I can already hear a difference in my singing just in the first few weeks of lessons. He is very encouraging, especially for a beginner like me. His constructive criticism is equally helpful. Highly recommended.

Fantastic, Genre Diverse Vocal Teacher

In addition to thoroughly addressing all of the issues that initially spurned my desire for vocal lessons, we also examined and exercised other critical areas that he brought to my attention, and laid a strong foundation for singing technique.

This product has great features

Words will never be enough to express what Danielle has done for my daughter and her love of singing. Danielle has shown so much patience and commitment through her instruction and has boosted my daughters confidence 110%. She knows how to chose the perfect song for Alexis' voice and the emails that she sends after each session provide the proper tools for my daughter to carry out her 1 hour session to a full week. I could not have picked a better vocal coach for my daughter.

Exceeds expectations

My daughter Julia has been taking singing lessons with Danielle since July. Julia is in second grade and this is her first time taking singing lessons. Danielle has devoted so much time to researching good vocal exercises and music selections for a young singer and also to learning the songs Julia was interested in singing. Danielle always follows up within 24 hours with the audio for the lesson and an encouraging email. Danielle is very patient with Julia and takes a genuine interest in her. She listens to the little stories Julia likes to share with her and remembers details of what Julia shares, and has even taken a little extra time to teach Julia a little about playing the keyboard. I can't say enough good things about Danielle. She is a fantastic teacher and a lovely person.

I run a mentoring program and one of my mentees really wanted to learn how to sing. Through Take Lessons we found Danielle. She is terrific. Very professional and very patient. My mentee is learning so much with Danielle's help. I don't think this 16 year old girl has ever really been expected to work hard on perfecting something so it has been so good for her. This whole experience has been a real joy!

Great Singing Experience

Shauna is a very talented singer/teacher. She focuses on her student and builds up self-awareness and singing confidence. The singing studio inside Shauna's house is sunny and cozy. It creates a positive atmosphere during lessons. Singing lessons with Shauna are very therapeutic. Shauna puts a great emphasis on not just singing, but singing with your heart and soul. I definitely recommend Shauna as a teacher to anyone who wants to take singing classes.

Nicole P. Malden, MA

About Nicole

I have a passion for music and people. Those two things together make lessons a fantastic outlet for both me and the student. I cater to each student's specific needs based on personality, age, ability, and mood. I have been teaching for over 10 years, and have completed both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Violin Performance from St. Olaf College and The Boston Conservatory. I am an active performer in the Boston area, and am always looking for new and interesting projects. I am a strong promoter of music being written by living composers, which is where a lot of my performing happens. A typical lesson starts with some fundamental work, whether it's open strings, scales or whatever. There is always a way to warm up - playing violin is an athletic skill, in my opinion. After that,

A wonderful and passionate teacher and mentor

Nicole is far more than a teacher, she is a role-model, a caring person, and a very well-trained musician. I've tried finding other places or teachers that I felt were at least adequate, but had no luck. After 4 years of private lessons, I have, without a doubt, improved far so much. She knows how to push a student to their full potential, even if they don't see it themselves.

If you're looking for someone who will be supportive and understanding but also productive, Nicole is your person. Her optimistic method of teaching really does impact and motivate you to practice, which is something that is sometimes hard for me to find.

Although I'm not technically a student of Phil's, I learn a lot from him every time I play and teach with him. We perform regularly at Berklee, where I'm a professor, and we give concerts and masterclasses all over the Northeast together (most recent was at Cornell). Phil's a warmhearted, patient, brilliant teacher and an outstanding and creative musician, seamlessly putting together everything he knows--jazz, shredding, classical--there's no boundaries for him! He's great at explaining things, and he never belittles a question, no matter how dumb you might have thought it was. Phil's a great friend and a great teacher. -John Funkhouser, Berklee College of Music, Boston

Guitar · In studio
In addition to being the most talented guitarist and musician I have ever had the opportunity to play with, Phil is an astoundingly good teacher. I've played guitar for 8 years and taken private lessons the entire time. Phil has been my teacher for the past 2 years and in that time I have progressed as a musician more than I could have ever imagined. Phil has been the biggest factor in my decision to major in music, due to his unrivaled musical talent, his kind, unassuming, (and funny) demeanor and his seemingly limitless knowledge of the fretboard. He is well versed in so many genres of music, and has such an effortless grasp on improvisation. Any guitarist, from immediate beginners to seasoned professionals, can learn so much from Phil. Need I say more?

Phil is the man! I had been playing for several years before I took lessons with him. He has introduced me to volumes of new music, helped me grow as an improviser, and even taught me how to read for the guitar (which was never my goal in taking lessons, but I'm very happy I can read now). He's helped to expand my playing by constantly introducing new and creative ideas in a supportive atmosphere.

Phil demonstrates a mastery of his instrument while always making his lessons accessible to the student. Definitely check this guy out if you want to reach the next level!
