It's so much fun learning ukulele with Scott. I like his style of teaching. It's very laid back, and you feel like you are making music in your first few lessons. I'm looking forward to more lessons and feel motivated to practice and learn more.

Nathan R.

Windsor Mill, MD

I equally cover fundamentals, technique, tone production, solo rep., orchestral music, jazz and anything else the student might be interested in.

About Nathan

I have been teaching private lessons for close to 10 years and have been an active performer for even longer, playing in all different types of groups, from rock bands and jazz groups to orchestras and brass bands. I studied music at Frostburg State University (Bachelors) and the Peabody Conservatory (Masters). I can teach just about any age and skill level and cover anything you are interested in learning; whether its a certain style, genre, technique or song.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are laid back, with a focus on perfecting the basics. Most students work out of a method boo
k appropriate to their skill level. Aside from that we'll also spend time learning songs and pieces of the students choice. With the right amount of effort, you'll know your way around your instrument in no time at all

*** Travel Equipment ***
Will provide sheet music and exercises. My students should have a working instrument as well as any method book or sheet music we are working on.

*** Specialties ***
I teach all styles and genres

As an over 50 student who use to be somewhat decent at playing the piano 30 years ago, I was fairly nervous about starting up again, as well as somewhat skeptical that lessons would really help. But after a few months with Nathan I can say that they are definitely helping and I feel lucky to have found him. Nathan is not only knowledgeable but has an excellent instinct regarding what I need in an instructor. I feel confident he would be able to adapt his style to any type of student of any age range or ability level.

Nathan is an EXCELLENT piano teacher! He's encouraging, not at all upset when I clearly haven't practiced,
and is a pleasure to be with. He is gifted in the way he seems just the right teacher for me, though I'm sure he's as fine a teacher for others who have their own individual approaches to learning to play the piano.

We are so happy that he shared his talent with us. He gave my son beneficial skills to practice and assessed what he would work on during our next lesson. Thank you for connecting us.

Scott M.

Baltimore, MD

I strive to both instruct my students and inspire them to enjoy playing their instrument. After mastering the basics I focus on musical expression and establishing a musical voice for the student. I will however expect the student to work on what I teach them in their own time at home.

About Scott

Originally from North Pole Alaska, Scott M. has been playing the tuba since the age of nine. While in high school Scott was in virtually every brass ensemble at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In 2006 Scott enrolled at the Peabody Conservatory of Music on a merit scholarship where he studied with Toby Hanks and Baltimore Symphony’s David Fedderly, eventually earning both his Bachelors and Masters in Music Performance. While at Peabody Mr. M. performed extensively with the Peabody Symphony, the Peabody Wind Ensemble, and several brass choirs. In addition to these Scott performed with br
ass quintets every year while he was at Peabody and received the Grace Clagett Ranney Prize in chamber music on completion of his Master’s degree. Scott is currently performing in the Baltimore area with a variety of groups including Patriot Brass, the Occasional Symphony, and Brassivity.

In the first few lessons beginner students will work on breathing techniques to focus on producing a clear sound. Breathing is something we all do every day, but breathing for brass playing is a skill to work on from day one for as long as you play your instrument! Buzzing and reading music will be layered together to start making music.

About Justin

Hello there! I'm very excited to offer individualized trombone lessons to students of any age in the DC area, with a background in both music pedagogy and adult learning theory. In addition to trombone instruction, I provide beginner to intermediate trumpet and tuba instruction.

I studied music at the College of New Jersey and have orchestral, wind ensemble, brass quintet, pit orchestra, jazz, and drum and bugle corps performance experience.

While I don't have firsthand knowledge of Justin's trombone teaching skills, I am quite familiar with his talent for and love of teaching through my work with him as an organizer and a trainer ever since we met in 2010. Justin is great at interacting with people of all backgrounds and ages, and has utmost patience for absolute beginners. Justin's method of teaching is learner-centered and successfully balances being supportive while also challenging. Also, he'll make you laugh while you learn!
