Heather L.

Saint Augustine, FL

About Heather

More important than my conservatory education and my experience as an educator and a performer is my passion for teaching music and acting and my undying belief that anyone can learn to be a musician and an actor. I'm currently available to teach lessons in your St. Augustine home, my own St. Augustine home studio, and online around the globe.

I'm a graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey and a winner of its merit scholarship.
After performing with the New York and Royal Philharmonics, the New Jersey and Virginia Symphonies, the American Boy Choir and the internatio
nally renowned opera star, Andrea Bocelli, studying opera and piano at Westminster Choir College and performance art and improvisational acting at East Carolina University in North Carolina, and appearing in shows and pageants across the east coast, I found my life's work in 2003 when I began teaching music.

I've successfully taught hundreds of different students since 2003, from 5-year-olds with special needs, to middle-aged professional opera singers, to 65-year-old doctors of music. I've created and led a workshop about singing called, "The Whole Body Singer". I've written dozens of articles about music and music education for the blog at TakeLessons.com.

My extensive knowledge of the voice has encouraged and enriched hundreds of singers and prepared many of them to win competitions, pageants and auditions, as well as roles in operas and musicals.
Having both taught myself piano and received formal training at a conservatory has prepared me to teach almost anyone how to play.
The intensive training and education that I received at Westminster Choir College in songwriting, music theory and sight reading has benefited my students at every level.
My current work as singer and keyboardist in the acoustic rock duo, Timberwood, has strengthened my knowledge of a broad range of styles and genres. I have a strong commitment to continuing my education. That's why I recently (2014) studied songwriting online with the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

In the lessons that I teach, I'm flexible, positive and encouraging. While I want my students to have fun and love music, not dread it, I expect hard work and persistence. I am caring, patient, nurturing, and compassionate. In piano lessons, I usually allow the student to choose a piece with which to warm up and then move on to technique and repertoire. In voice lessons, I usually warm up the singer and discuss technique and sight singing before focusing on song choices. Joan Frey Boytim wrote a book for voice that I like to use, and I like the Estelle Liebling exercises for the more advanced singer. Hanon exercises are a big part of my piano curriculum, and I enjoy the Bastien and Alfred books for young and old. I have used completely random songs pulled out of a piano bench and a karaoke CD for kids. I will use almost anything I can get my hands on if it means effectively teaching music.
Acting lessons consist of exercises and games that apply learned concepts, and monologue and audition coaching. Parents are always welcome to observe lessons quietly.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide an acoustic guitar to bring to voice lessons. I expect my piano students to have a piano, an organ or a keyboard.

***Home Studio Equipment***
In my home studio, my students will have access to an acoustic guitar, an electronic keyboard, an acoustic piano and PC audio recording.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching classical, pop and musical theater singing, classical and pop/rock/chordal style piano, and sightreading, including solfege syllables. I enjoy using Estelle Liebling as my voice method and Hanon for piano technique. I have coursework in jazz and pop theory and songwriting from Westminster Choir College. Teaching special needs individuals is also one of my specialties, and one that I highly enjoy. I have coursework in Meisner technique and experience in both theatre acting and musical theatre.

Eric B.

Port Orange, FL

About Eric

Music isn't just a career choice: it is a way of life. I have been playing music since I was a toddler; everything I have learned about life has been through music. I believe that self-expression is important to being confident with yourself. I look forward to sharing my passion for music and teaching with any students who are ready to learn!

I have over a decade of performance experience and have played along the East Coast with several bands. Some venues I have performed at recently include The Plaza Theatre in Orlando; Backbooth in Downtown Orlando; The Crowbar in Tampa; The Bandshel
l and The Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach. Some groups I play with are Run Rhino, The Mighty St. John's, The Children of Stone, and MPG (Mobile Performance Group). I am a versatile musician who primarily performs and instructs on Drums, Bass, and Guitar (acoustic and electric). I teach nearly all styles of music, including classical, jazz, funk, and rock. I have graduated from Stetson University with degrees in Digital Arts, Music, and Business.

I am also an accomplished computer musician and sound engineer. I am fluent in a range of professional software programs which includes Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Amadeus Pro, Cubase, and MaxMSP. I have done sound for large national touring acts such as Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, and Matt Costa.

I feel that nothing is impossible. Great results aren't given, they are earned, and I know how to set goals to reach those results. This is a virtue I like to share with students. My dedication to music has helped me accomplish much at a young age.

*** Lesson Details ***
All lessons accommodate the unique needs of the student. My lessons don't merely teach you musical theories: I will teach you how to express yourself through your instrument as you learn those theories. You will gain technical knowledge and the tools to experience your musical potential. Lessons with me are the perfect extra-curricular activity for your child, or a great experience for you. A large part of my curriculum is more than learning how to play a few cover songs. The lessons are also about becoming more confident with yourself as a person and developing character along the way. You will learn about the discipline, patience, and dedication that it takes to stand out among professionals, not just as a musician, but as a strong individual. Music is a part of that. What you play becomes an extension of yourself. Young or old, everyone has something to share with the world through music.

In a given lesson, you can expect half of it to be about the basics of your instrument and the literature for reading music. The other half is about how you can apply these principles in a unique way that relates to yourself. However, the lesson is all about the student. If the student wants to learn in different ways that is never a problem. All I ask is that you're eager to learn! Everybody has different musical tastes and different learning styles. That is what makes every musician unique and every lesson exciting.

I enjoy teaching people of all ages 5 and up and have experience teaching groups or individuals. From beginner or experienced, hobbyist or professional, every person has a place in the wonderful world of music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Separate studio: computer, recording gear, mics, amps, keyboard, guitars, bass, drum kit

*** Travel Equipment ***

We think Eric is great teacher too! I have been bringing my 6 year old son for drum lessons for several weeks and he has been great with him. I was amazed after the first lesson that he already had my son reading music. The progress they make in 30 minutes is amazing! Thanks Eric :)

Excellent teacher--highly recommended

We are so glad we found Eric! After trying (and failing) with two other drum coaches who lacked a crucial requirement--in one case, depth of knowledge, and in another case, patience--my son has been taught by Eric for three years and has become an excellent drummer. Eric is highly knowledgeable, very patient, and a great communicator. He is the best music teacher we've found (and that includes three music teachers we used for another child, who took lessons for several instruments). Eric is also very knowledgeable about several other instruments. You cannot find a better music teacher than Eric!

Weak, tense, and strained..that's where I was before I worked with Terell. From our first lesson, he started teaching me about how singing and talking are connected. I followed his directions, and now a year later I have more power, freedom, and a wider range. Hands down the best coach I've ever had! :)

I had studied for some years with another teacher but I wasn't getting any better. Every time I'd sing high my throat would close up and it was starting to hurt. A friend told me about Terell and I knew after our first lesson he was awesome. He worked with me to get rid of the tension and learn to sing free. He taught me tons a exercises and really pushed me to be in control of my body. Now I am singing like I never thought I could and singing is fun again!

Gene D.

Palm Coast, FL

About Gene

I am a professional guitarist, singer, songwriter, recording artist and instructor. Between both live performance and teaching, I have over 35 years of experience.

I teach lead/scales, rhythm, chords, keys, finger picking, slide guitar, alternative tunings, music theory, techniques, songs, improvising and lots, lots more, with a very strong focus on creativity and songwriting in any styles/genres on acoustic or electric guitars.

I also part time teach harmonica and mandolin.

Students/customers appreciate my friendly and sincere personality, abilities, passion, and patience. They also
love our jam sessions, among many other things.

Lessons are weekly, bi-weekly, and/or monthly. Monday through Friday. Lesson and reference materials are all free.

My top student won 1st place in Guitar Player Magazine's 2006 Guitar Hero Contest. Many of my other students pass auditions, win talent contests, form bands, and become performers and recording artists or are simply happy to just sit at home and strum some chords and sing some songs alone.

I value and appreciate each and every student. I like and I want to see all of my students happy and smiling. Give me a chance to prove all of this to you; actions speak louder than words.

Please call to set up an appointment to meet me and check out the studio and judge for yourself. Experience the difference! Don't Wait! Call Now!
