The artists I develop, work. They are signed with agents and they usually join the unions, which I like very much. I am a member of SAG/AFTRA AEA and have been for many years.
I've worked a lot and studied at Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music (CCM). In New York City I was under the care of opera teacher, Leona Matthews, famed acting teacher and director, Word Baker and Edward Morehouse as a student at HB Studio in NYC and Mark Monroe in San Francisco and Los Angeles. I still have my own writing doc, the revered Dr. Joyce Block. I work as a recording artist and writer. And I’m lucky to work as a concert artist, too.

More about Kathryn
Kathryn began teaching in the late 80's in San Francisco with Mark Monroe, beginning Mark Monroe Studios. MM Studios began originally at Look Talent with genius talent agent, Joan Spangler. She and Mr. Monroe packed their studio, by word of mouth only, and when the studio totaled six hundred and fifty actors, they added a studio in Los Angeles. That was in 1993. Kathryn has been coaching actors and musicians and developing artists ever since. She has been involved in the industry her entire life and has a passion for it. She most recently has been working in Los Angeles and San Francisco on her own show that had the good fortune of being awarded a residency at Berkeley Reps The Ground Floor.
She also works as a songwriter and singer and her latest release is with renowned Grammy award winning producer, Narada Michael Walden.
Her students follow suit, working constantly, winning awards, signing with agents, joining unions, and enjoying the perks of being active in showbsiness as gifted artists. Kathryn loves passing the torch to young artists and she s thrilled to be able to do so.

I always wanted to take lessons with a proper vocal coach who was well informed and knowledgeable about singing. Michelle is that! She helped me incredibly just after the first lesson. The growth and confidence she brings out in your craft is amazing. I highly recommend her if you're looking for a good vocal coach.

I've meaning to write a review for michelle for some time. I took singing lessons before and had a really crappy experience. I was very nervous to sing in front of someone and the past teacher made me feel even more uncomfortable. I decided a few months ago to try again and figured if I couldn't find someone near me, online lessons would be the next best option. I slowly went through all of the teachers and chose michelle based on her good reviews. Michelle has been a blessing. Im slowly learning to be able to sing in front of others and really developing my voice which were the two biggest challenges for me. The lessons are great and I get so much out of just 35 mins. Wish I had more money to spend more time with her. Regardless of your ability if you want a comfortable, knowledgeable, experience go with michelle!

Emily W.

Los Angeles, CA

Although I teach the same fundamental technique for all kinds of singing, I am well versed in the unique stylistic needs of Broadway singing. I use simple exercises to teach my students how to expand their range, build strong breath control, and learn how to belt in a healthy way. I also specialize in acting for singers. When working on musical theatre, I challenge my students to study and identify with their character in order to produce stronger singing and a stronger performance.

About Emily

I teach to help people find their inner rock star. Everyone can sing! But for many people, fear is an obstacle. I know firsthand how much courage it takes to stand up and sing. I teach to help others experience the same healing I have experienced through music. My approach to singing is informed by my education and years of performance experience. I teach my students how to embrace their fears and move through them to the other side. I also facilitate a supportive student/teacher relationship based upon mutual respect and kindness. Most importantly, I encourage my students to trust themselves
and their innate musical gifts. This develops their self confidence and ultimately leads them to their purest, most authentic sound.

I lived and breathed music and singing throughout my childhood, and I continue to today. I have over fifteen years of classical music training and performance experience. I attended California State University Northridge where I studied classical voice, art song, and opera performance. Since attaining my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Arts I have performed opera and musical theatre professionally across Los Angeles. I have since left opera performance to focus on my true musical passions: pop, R&B, jazz, musical theatre, and teaching.

**Lesson Details**

I tailor my teaching to each student's needs and desires. I teach all levels of singing, child to adult, beginner to advanced. If you are a beginner, I will quickly help you understand and access your instrument. If you are a more experienced singer, I will help you identify your opportunities for growth and we start from there. I focus on releasing tension and building a strong core foundation. You will learn how to develop consistent breath control, expand your range, and grow your voice into a powerful and beautiful sound!

**Studio Equipment**
Piano
Acoustic guitar
Music stand
ZoomH2 microphone and recording device
Musical theater/classical singer library

**Specialties**
I teach the same technique for all styles of singing - pop, musical theatre, and classical. I help my students make minor changes for each style, but the core foundational technique remains the same. I specialize in breath support, vocal chord closure, range expansion, vocal register negotiation, body alignment, relieving tension, healthy belting, emotional support, and acting for singers.

First off, Emily is awesome and very worthy of these 5 stars. She is a great vocal coach. This is my third lesson coming up this week, and the leaps I have made in the last two are astounding with just a few adjustments she suggested.
One of the great things is that she does teach you to "sing". I didn't know how this was going to mesh well with my style, but it's increased my range, made my dynamics more noticeable, stronger falsetto...I can even do the Dave Grohl grit thing that I've been trying to get so long, but couldn't reach the notes. I highly recommend her. It doesn't matter what genre you want to sing, she will be able to help you get there. She also does have a B.A. in Music, which I think shows her dedication and passion to the craft.
Thanks Emily! So appreciative that you have helped me so much in just two weeks and I look forward to continuing lessons with you!

Andrew R.

Santa Monica, CA

Many people know they can sing, enjoy singing and even perform well in many environments. But there are always things that you can't hear when you're singing. Indeed, built in to the singing mechanism is something that actually partially shuts down the ear, most likely to protect it from the sometimes very loud noises emanating from our vocal chords and resonant cavities. That's why it's essential to spend time bouncing off another very skilled person who can listen carefully and objectively.
For Broadway style performers, diction, projection and drama are just some of the things that need very special attention and with the right care can be the difference between being noticed and being hired

About Andrew

British born and Educated at London's prestigious Trinity College of Music and The Royal Academy of Music, my professional musical career has spanned over two decades to date. I have performed with world renowned acts such as Sia, Dave Stewart and Horace Andy, and have been a featured recording artist on many of the worlds most famous film scores while myself having authored or co-authored over 30 movie scores.
A Suzuki violin student since the age of 3, I added piano, guitar, singing and composition during my teenage years. The Suzuki method encourages advanced aural development from very ea
rly on and this has turned out to be my strongest suit. With my ear, I have impressed some of the most notable orchestrators, composers, directors and producers in London, Hollywood and the world over. In fact, it was these on the spot aural magic tricks that allowed me to impress the Hollywood composer that first invited me to Los Angeles to work on my first blockbuster. That opportunity led to many years of success in the industry and some notoriety.
I have always had a passion for teaching, sharing my knowledge with others and watching other people take immense pleasure in their own achievements. I have been told time and time again that I have a very special gift for teaching and I would very much like to share it with you, whether you want to learn an instrument, musicianship, ear training, composition, hone your vocal or mic skills or learn how to arrange an orchestral piece in just a few hours!
I look forward to talking to you about your specific needs and goals and having the opportunity to help you realize them in a fun friendly and authentic atmosphere.

I cannot praise Andrew enough. He is wonderfully sincere and I was immediately welcomed. As an introvert I know how hard it can be to sing in front of a stranger, but that was never the case with Andrew. I had never taken a single voice lesson, let alone sang at all, really. All that I knew was that I wanted to learn. In a short time, he was able to take my untrained, shy voice and turn it into a musical instrument that I enjoy immensely. I have a new found appreciation for singing thanks to Andrew and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone who is looking to either start anew, supplement, or expand on their musical skill set.

Learn to sing solos, duets and group numbers. Get into the character who sings the song. Enjoy to fun of Fiddler, the romance of Man of La Mancha, the beautiful songs of The Sound of Music and the excitement of Westside Story. Character parts and group numbers as well. I directed every part of stage production as Department Chair of Performing Arts at Mercy High School in Red Bluff CA. In addition I can teach you how to write musical scores, original scripts and songs for student productions. Our production of West Side Story sold out every performance and received 5 star reviews. I have the sung Musical Theater numbers in San Francisco Bay area, San Diego, Maui, and Florida venues for nearly years.

About Daniel

Music lessons should be fun and focus on what you want! I am willing to travel to you or welcome you to my studios in the San Fernando Valley. I teach all over San Diego and Los Angeles Counties. What is your goal? Some students want to sing better in school choir or musical programs. Some are trying to sing or play guitar for Church or Synagogue. Others have their eye on Disney careers, rock/pop bands, in short being professionals. I will help you move closer to reaching that dream!!! I am a graduate of USD with a B.A. in Philosophy with an emphasis in musical performance. I also ho
ld a Masters degree, completed California Teaching Credential Curriculum from Chapman University and completed Doctoral Studies at Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. I studied voice, guitar and piano classes throughout grade school, high school, college and post-graduate training. I specilized in vocal training with Robert Austin and in San Francisco with Richard Nichol of the Garcia-Marchesi Institute. I sang with the Palm Beach Florida Opera Company. I am a tenor with a 3.5 octave range. I also sang and performed in Musicals and Operas and Sacred Oratorios from Maui to Florida. I am the proud "dad" of two high school aged children who are excellent students!
I teach voice (beginner to professional levels), guitar (acoustic and electric: beginners to Intermediate) and basic piano. I have been teaching private lessons for 7 years. I also offer voice or guitar classes at St. Cecelia's School of Music in Canoga Park, and privately in my home Reseda. I focus my instruction on "correct" breathing and proper singing. My time-tested techniques will improve and protect your voice from injury.and produce a beautiful tone and wonderful performance. I teach guitar chords, reading standard musical notation as well as tablature. For beginning piano students of all ages I teach you how to read music, play scales, strenghten your finger strength and play cords and song.
