Clarissa N. Los Angeles, CA

I teach at ALL Levels....I take my students from the very first note all the way until college auditions (if that's where they're heading!).

About Clarissa

I studied piano in Germany with Lola Poirier (a student of the famous Alfred Cortot) for 11 years, then with Phillip Evans in New York (professor at the Manhattan School of Music) and finally with world-renowned concert pianist Eugene Liszt at Carnegie-Mellon University, where I received my Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with a Minor in Child Pedagogy. For the past twenty eight years I have been teaching students of all levels and ages, incorporating some of my former teachers' methods with my own teaching style. I am passionate about awakening a hunger in each of my students for bringing and keeping music in their lives forever. I don't look at my students as children who play an instrument, but as young artists on the road to self-discovery and musical fulfillment! ...

Clarissa is very helpful and patient! I have my piano class in a studio in the backyard of her house, I like the place a lot! She is a warm, smart, humorous and amazing women who can encourage me to keep on practicing! She helped me to reading the notes in a smart way, and we shared a wonderful time together to go through those beautiful pieces! I am willing to recommend her to anyone who is willing to take piano class!

Mike S. Sherman Oaks, CA

I teach how to read, but also how to improvise! like to play guitar along with my students to help them groove!

About Mike

I have taught private guitar, piano, bass and drum lessons since the late 70s in Salt Lake City, where I majored in jazz guitar performance, and since 1980 in Los Angeles. I make the lessons fun. Some of my students have received college scholarships and won cash prizes for music contests. All of them had fun while learning and improving on their instruments. *** Lesson Details *** I am very enthusiastic and can teach students how to read. If they do not want to read music, they can learn to play by ear. I can also show them where to put their fingers. During piano lessons, I often accompany students on guitar and suggest a scale for improvisation, so they can play the blues. During drum lessons, I often play bass so they can learn to groove. *** Travel Equipment *** They should have

I've been taking lessons from Mike for about 6 months now and his enthusiasm and supportive approach are invaluable. This is my 3rd time trying lessons and the first time I've continued past the first couple sessions. And the reason is Mike. He's extremely talented, but more importantly, he's a phenomenal teacher. He explains things simply, concisely, and effectively. I leave every lesson enthused and excited to go home and practice. I can't recommend him highly enough. Mike's the man!

Mike S will teach you how to allow yourself to learn a new instrument!

Mike really is incredible. The guitar looked so complicated and confusing before I met Mike. He really teaches you how to allow yourself to learn a new instrument. Within a month I was improvising over simple changes with my own ideas! And within 2 or 3 months, the amount of chord structures I had at my disposal was mind blowing. The speed at which I became comfortable with the instrument was amazing. I really believe that Mike's simple teaching style really was a key part in my ability to play and grow on a new instrument. Other than that, he is one of the greatest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet and play with. He gives so much of his time to his community by teaching anyone from child to infinity and even bringing them together to create bands to showcase every persons different talents. He is a beautiful human being and I do actively suggest him to anyone that tells me they want to learn either piano, guitar, or bass.

AMAZING music teacher!

I have been taking lessons with Mike since I was age 5, and am now age 25. Mike was the first person to make me feel passion and love for music. He helped me discover my talent by allowing and encouraging me to play by ear and was always incredibly supportive, patient, and kind. Lessons with Mike make me eager to practice the piano daily and I have ALWAYS looked forward to our next lesson together because of the fun and easy-going environment he creates. If it weren't for Mike, I would not continue to play the piano as often as I do as an adult. He goes above and beyond for his students and I would HIGHLY recommend him as a teacher. I know I will take lessons from him for as long as he's still teaching!
Christopher T. Sherman Oaks, CA

Piano will be taught based on YOU! I do not have a series of books that I try to make sure everyone learns from. I will tailor these lessons toward the goals and desires of the student. For beginners, I often do not start with reading notes, unless that is what is desired. I find there is much more excitement in playing the piano right away, and learning to use ones ear. For intermediate and beyond we will learn techniques, including both exercises and ideas, that will take you as a player far beyond your current level.

About Christopher

While most 5 year olds were singing along to silly songs, I was entranced by the tribal drumming in the Michael Jackson's "Will you be there". When most Junior High student were listening to, well, whatever made them "cool", I was thinking of what John Lennon meant in his lyrics for "Strawberry Fields Forever." I have always had a deep passion for music that goes beyond the surface. I connect with the very soul of music. Writing my first song at the age of 7, the creative fire began to use music to express what no other form of communication could. Struggling with the limitations of my vocal abilities at the age of 16, I decided to intensify my study of the voice, taking hundreds of private lessons in such techniques as Bel Canto Vocal Technique, Speech Level Singing(TM), Progressive ...

Really enjoying myself

Chris makes learning really fun. I look forward to my lessons and just told him the other day that I wish my lesson was for 3 hours. I go to Chris for 1.5hr every other week and that gives me to time to practice for 2 weeks. We cover a lot of ground. Chris gives me structure to follow and that helps me. I've only had a few lessons with Chris but I can tell that I am going to make that big leap this year from "practicing" music to "playing" music.

Excellent Teacher

Chris is extremely talented and very knowledgable of the technical aspects of the voice. He doesn't have a rigid cookie-cutter lesson plan that he just pulls out for everyone regardless of his/her level. He has a great ear for whatever problems you may have, and as a result he's able to cater his lesson plan to your needs. He has a wide array of vocal exercises for exactly this purpose. He knows a lot about a variety of genres, so he's able to help you build your voice while still maintaining the style that you prefer. He records every lesson on a cd/usb drive (whichever you prefer), so it's very convenient and easy to practice throughout the week without missing any of the feedback that he gives. It's also great to hear yourself gradually improve throughout your time with him.
I've been able to expand my vocal range by over an octave during my time with Chris and now I feel much more confident in my vocal ability. Chris is a great teacher and I definitely recommend that you give him a shot!

AMAZING teacher!

Jill is in a class of her own where it comes to teaching piano! She is incredible with kids, has tons of patience, is gentle yet firm enough to redirect an active 8 year olds attention. I was worried that my sons interest in restarting piano lessons would dwindle, as it had with his previous teacher, but Jill is a breath of fresh air, she is energetic, enthusiastic and knows just how to keep him motivated! Her love, respect and knowledge of music are evident. She makes each lesson fun and enjoyable. My son loves practicing and looks forward to his lessons... that speaks volumes. Simply put she's an awesome teacher whom I highly recommend.
Ryan K. Woodland Hills, CA

Ryan has been playing piano since the age of 4, where is was discovered he has perfect pitch. In addition to all styles/levels, be it pop, classical, fusion, and even non-western melodies and music, Ryan can teach students to learn a reference pitch to aid in relative/perfect pitch efforts. excellent instructor for drums and piano!

Ryan is an exceptional music instructor. He has been giving guidance to my 13 year old son on drums and piano for 3-4 months and my son's abilities have dramatically soared. Ryan is equally talented on both instruments and offers top notch dual instruction. Ryan is a true musician and knows how to communicate the language of music on various levels to my son. He observes and instructs accordingly.
My son is so excited after each lesson that he comes home and practices both instruments on his own, without having to be prompted. My son plays both instruments now with so much more style and exuberance. Ryan is extremely professional, soft spoken and gifted on his own. I would highly recommend Ryan as a music instructor for kids and adults.

Ryan is an excellent teacher. Thanks to his amazing knowledge of the subject matter, impressive creativity, support and patience, my son always looks forward to Ryan's lessons. Ryan always supports my son's passion to learn to play the piano and drums, and he successfully manages to direct my son's energy into something productive, which motivates my son to learn even more. So, thank you, Ryan, for everything!
