Cello has brought me all over the world! I've play in pit orchestras for musical theater and in classical chamber orchestras, recorded on folk records and electronic albums, performed in Indian music festivals and the Montreux Jazz festival! My daughter started lessons with Ellen in person before the pandemic and shifted to online lessons since the pandemic. In both formats Ellen has been excellent in providing professional guidance, new tools / exercises, but most importantly, she has been able to help my daughter gain her confidence back and actually enjoy learning more about her self through her voice. I highly recommend Ellen, she’s always been responsive, responsible, on time, and extremely professional while also warm and approachable.

Ellen is awesome. I am a total beginner and perfectionist so I don't tend to do well with learning something new in front of another person. I grow easily frustrated when I don't pick things up quickly and easily and get embarrassed when I make mistakes. Ellen makes the lessons super comfortable for me and I leave having learned something new every time. I have a LONG way to go but I can see where this can lead and plan to stick with it. She knows how to make music and an instrument make sense to someone with no background in music which is very helpful for me. I plan to stick with her for a long time!

I am continuing to study cello with Jamie and I am much further along than I anticipated. I also study piano, so I am not a traditional beginner cello student. Jaime is able to fine tune my lessons to take this into account and build on it. He is very knowledgeable about proper technique as well as music theory. I would recommend him without reservation for all abilities and ages.

Jamie worked with me when I was trying to pick up cello after not playing since high school. He is extremely knowledgeable and encouraging. He's very good at identifying problems with technique and suggesting approaches to fix them, and fun to work with.

I have over 6 years of experience teaching private lessons in addition to teaching seminars on songwriting and music business at Infinity Visual and Performing Arts and SUNY JCC.

I teach both online and in-person lessons at my studio in Nashville and offer 30 and 60 minute lessons.

I have played over 1,000 shows, both solo and as an auxiliary musician for other touring acts. I performed on over 30 albums and have composed for radio, television, and internet video series, including sharing the stage with members of the 10,000 Maniacs. I've been featured in The New York Times, on the CBS Evening News, and on NPR.

While each student is different, I do generally start everyone on either Suzuki or the Essential Elements books.

As one of my old teachers said, “I'm not teaching you how to play cello, I'm teaching you how to teach yourself how to play cello.” This is something I strive for. Students will not only learn technical skills( how to play their instrument, read ...

The main thing that I like to remind students of, when they take lessons with me, is that music is FUN! A lot of hard work goes into it, but the end result is always rewarding! I am a pretty laid back teacher, yet I still work to inspire my students to try their hardest and to be the best that they can be at what they do. It is very important to me that my students get their musical wants AND needs fulfilled.

For cello, I take the standard approach; getting to know the instrument and assigning various exercises so that the student will gain technical fluency, and building repertoire. Although I am not a certified Suzuki teacher, I do use some of their methods, since I, myself was a Suzuki student. I like teaching the student memorization of pieces, so that they can focus on technique and expression within a given piece.

In my cello lessons we will work on a variety of topics, including:

-Gaining a feel and command for your own instrument.

-Finding your SOUND: Helping you ...

"Tszto was the best instructor ever! He was well-prepared, experienced, and flexible. He always brought all of his teaching materials relevant to me and made sure we cover what I needed to learn/reinforce. He was also clearly experienced with teaching a wide range of students and applied relevant teaching methods that worked best for me. I also appreciated how flexible he was in scheduling/rescheduling lessons whenever despite his own busy schedule and commitment. I only had a very positive experience learning from him and appreciated the fact that he demonstrated his passion for teaching in every lesson I had with him. Definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to learn/practice cello!"

"Johnny is an excellent, well-rounded teacher. The lesson I took with him was packed full of superb teaching points; such as bowing exercises to help with bowing complexities, helpful fingerings for awkward passages within a composition of music, and terrific rhythmical suggestions to help with complex rhythms in a passage of music. I highly recommend him for any cellist; whether they're first starting out or they are just looking for someone who needs an ear for an audition and needs some advice!"

"I took cello lessons from Maria for over five years. I found her to be very patient and encouraging. She has a passion for teaching and always made me feel uplifted after a lesson, eager to get back home to put into practice what she has taught. I am an adult student so perhaps a little more of a struggle than if I were much younger, but she never made me feel discouraged even on my worst days. She teaches from the heart and is an amazing cellist. I feel so fortunate to have been guided by her and will continue to play hopefully untill I can no longer hold the cello!"

"I'm very grateful to have found a teacher as generous as Chris. Since reviewing is so important in our culture anymore, I always like to get a good sampling before constructing a review. Chris shows consistently that he listens to his students, offers positive critique, and molds his approach to meet the student where they are. Chris makes it easy, fun and relaxing to learn. It isn't hard to gather that Chris is a professional and experienced teacher. I am a very beginner, adult student, and I can appreciate how Chris can teach a spectrum of students at different skill and experience levels. Thanks to Chris for making my hobby to learn an instrument such a dream!"

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
