Drumset only. I can teach students a variety of basic drum grooves in a variety of styles and can help students understand how to incorporate fills into their playing. I can also teach reading basics.

About Jared
I am overjoyed and grateful to say I have been playing music for more than half of my life. It has never stopped being the light in my day and now it is my hope to shed some of that light onto you or your child. I am a very friendly and fun teacher with a great deal of professionalism and patience, even more importantly I love teaching and music with a passion.

I have been playing an instrument since the 4th grade (cello) and, as I learned more about how music works, was slowly able to pick-up a greater variety instruments with an increasing degree of ease. In high school, I decided to pick-up the guitar just to "have fun and rock out". I joined a band, played in the high school orchestra, joined the high school jazz band and began to practice songwriting and cover songs. Still, it was not until after I took my first class on music the
ory that I knew how much I not only loved the thrill of playing music but the discovery of how it worked. With this experience I can show you or your child why learning an instrument can be not only an exciting experience but an interesting and enthralling one as well.

I have been teaching music for over 7 years and have had the privilege of teaching children as young as 4 to adults in their late 80's. I am a very attentive teacher who can not only help get you moving in the right direction but keep you on that path until your are a self-sufficient musician. A level of musicianship that simply means you can learn whatever you want on your instrument on your own, whether it be for business, pleasure or for mere self-improvement.

Through my own student career in private lessons I had the chance to study with graduates of the Musician's Institute (MI), the California Institute of the Arts (CAL Arts) and Berklee College of Music. This has provided me with an inside look into how and what each institute teaches, as well as a first hand look at the techniques and ideas that the great players from these remarkable schools have come to produce.

My formal music education consists of 2 years at Pasadena City College where I obtained my general Associates Degree (much of the studies included music) and a semester at California State University Long Beach as a Jazz Guitar Performance Major. Additionally, I completed a great deal of California State University Long Beach's teaching credential program (focusing on the teaching of history/social studies), where I learned strategies and theories of how and what to teach my students - making me that much more knowledgable of my craft. At Pasadena City College I studied with jazz/classical guitarist, Ron Berman, who has played with such jazz greats as Herb Ellis and Jimmy Wyble. At Cal State Long Beach I studied with jazz guitarist Ron Eschete, a former teacher at MI who has toured with the likes of Ray Brown, John Dizzy Gillespie and Jim Hall.

Most importantly I hope to show you or your child a new way to love and appreciate music. And to provide you with the ability and know-how to have the most fun on your instrument as possible.

*** Lesson Details ***
Throughout my lessons, I always encourage basic skills including scales, sight-reading and technical exercises. But what I hope to give all my students is a basic understanding of music and their instrument, providing them with a practical ability to navigate the vast world of music for a lifetime.

Beyond these skills, I always have songs, styles and theory for you to work on but I am often more interested in what you as an individual want to learn on your instrument. Getting to learn concepts that you have chosen yourself will help encourage practice and will make the finished product all the more the rewarding.

I can custom tailor a teaching curriculum and/or style for any of my students: we can focus on learning songs, learning to read, how to write music, how music works, and even how to play specific styles of music (including funk, rock, jazz, Latin, flamenco, classical, country and blues). I also self tailor my own worksheets and set weekly goals with my students to help encourage practice, understanding and progress. For students interested in more advanced concepts, I can also teach ear training, music theory, advanced jazz improvisation as well as advanced playing techniques.

All this in a friendly and easy-going teaching environment.

I've been teaching drums and percussion for 10 years and my students have gone on to be accepted into top ensembles, record and produce tracks of their own, and have performance careers. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play basic rhythms on the drum set, and start recognizing different stylistic patterns. You'll also develop a strong sense of time. As time goes on you'll be able to play along to any song just by listening, and even create your own drum groove to new music! I specialize in rock, pop, and funk styles, typically use Joel Rothman's drum books as well as my own PDFs. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Zachary
My name is Zach L. I am a professional musician in the Miami area. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from the University of Miami. I am a multiple Downbeat-award-winning guitarist and have been drumming for the past 13 years. I have headlined multiple international tours and received both the Duncan Nelson Scholarship and the Davidson Scholarship at the University of Miami. Furthermore, I am also an accomplished composer and arranger with my works featured by groups such as the Steve Miller Band and the Henry Mancini Orchestra. Lastly, I have held a teaching position as the Professor of Improvised Music at the Narnia Arts Academy International Summer Course in Central Italy.

*** Lesson Details ***
Students' lessons are tailored to their individual needs. I don't teach out of a book (though I do use books to supplement
material when helpful), so students will only be learning what *they* need to be learning next, based on their unique blend of skill, experience, and curiosity. With that in mind, here are some topics on which we tend to focus.

Guitar Lessons:
-Proper Technique. (How to hold a pick. Proper ways to apply pressure to the strings with the left hand. Tension-free technique to prevent injury and strain.)
-Chord Formations. (Bar chords, Power chords, Open chords, Triads and inversions, CAGED system chords, Seventh chords, Advanced jazz voicing, Chords in alternate tuning.)
-Scales/Arpeggios. (Proper fingering to build technical skill. Three note per string scale forms. Conventional scale forms. Cross-fretboard patterns. Seeing arpeggios from different scale degrees. Pattern manipulation.)
-Reading Music. (One position reading. Multi-position reading. Sight reading practice. Understanding rhythmic variation. Ledger line studies. Dollahon 10th position method for sight reading.)
-Repertoire. (Songs in genre(s) of preference. Learning to play songs from favorite artists. Learn to accompany yourself if you sing.)
-Ear Training. (Hearing melodic phrases. Identifying chords. Transcription projects. Learning to "play by ear".)
-Rhythm Training. (Differentiate between different rhythms. Metronome work. Keeping solid time. Develop ability to clap/strum/pick a variety of rhythms with good time.)

*** Studio Equipment ***
Two small jazz amplifiers, five guitars ranging from acoustic to electric to archtops, and an 88-key electric piano for music theory lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***

Zach is an excellent teacher! He has such a thorough understanding of music, and plenty of experience teaching it. Taking lessons with him are both super fun and super informative. He's got a knack for making complex things seem simple and is really easy to work with. I highly recommend taking lessons with Zach for anyone wanting to take their playing to the next level.

Zachary is great! Having some experience in playing guitar I was looking to gain some knowledge on the theory side of things. Lucky for me Zachary love to talk theory and was able to clearly explain things to me. I look forward to the classes every week. Highly recommend.

Zach takes the time to understand precisely what I want to accomplish with my playing, and why, and I feel that the lessons have progressed logically and quickly. Most importantly, he is a wonderful listener and patient with my ceaseless questions of 'why' and 'how'. I leave each session with greater enthusiasm and a genuine sense of accomplishment.

This is how learning should work.

As a drummer/percussionist of 18 years, I have experience in styles including rock, pop, jazz, classical, and more. Together we will develop a solid sense of groove & rhythm by studying rudiments, improvisation, music theory, and more. We will also spend time working on music that you personally love! At my studio, I have a drum kit and vibraphone, among other instruments. Whether you are starting from the very beginning or have been playing for a while, I’d love to work with you!

About Robby
Hi! My name is Robby and I am a drummer/percussionist based in Brooklyn. Since the age of fourteen, I have been teaching students in both recreational and career-focused contexts. Playing music is the most rewarding part of my life, and sharing that fulfillment with others is extremely important to me. I prioritize humor, empathy, and patience as crucial elements of music making.

As a teacher, I value the solidification of fundamentals as well as a strong focus on developing personal style and taste. Each person's relationship with music is unique, so I strive to help each student in developing techniques and routines that best suite their individual goals. My musical knowledge includes rock, pop, hip-hop, classical, jazz, electronic, and almost any other genre.

I am an active performer in the city and have a wealth of experience
to draw from. I am co-founder of an avant-dream band called Boio (with Finnegan Shanahan) and drummer of The Roofer’s Union. I also frequently play with projects like Alpenglow, Contemporaneous, Abbi Press, Goldfeather, and Echo Chamber, among other freelance gigs in the NY area. As a contemporary percussionist, I have worked with renowned artists like John Corigliano, Pascal Le Boeuf, Martin Creed, So Percussion, Jerek Bischoff, and more. Some of my performance highlights include appearances at Carnegie Hall, Park Avenue Armory, Lincoln Center, National Sawdust, Elsewhere (Hall), and EMPAC.

I can teach out of my studio in Downtown Brooklyn, online, or I am happy to meet you for lessons elsewhere if you have your own location with the instruments we need. I can teach drumset, classical & orchestral percussion, keyboard mallet instruments, early piano, and techniques in Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, and Garageband music softwares.

Whether you have no musical experience or have been practicing for a while, I am happy to work with you and figure out how to best reach your full musical potential. I look forward to meeting you!

Learn the basics of playing drum set and how to play in a band. I can teach you where to use fills in songs and what role drums play in a group.

About Ulises
I have played trumpet for 15 years, and taught lessons for 5 years. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in trumpet performance from Idaho State University, and a Master's Degree in trumpet performance from the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.

As a student who has overcome tension and anxiety, I can pinpoint any causes for these problems that a student may have. I am very understanding and I know that each student learns differently. I believe that music making should be fun, and I can help your playing be effortless so you can enjoy every moment of playing the instrument.

I have been contracted by several orchestras in Idaho in the past, and I have played professionally for memorial day services. I have played in brass quintets and am familiar with playing the correct style in a jazz setting.

Recently, I self produced
my own EP.

You've got to walk before you can run, so I focus on the basics. But, the basics can be a lot of fun! Especially once we start to apply them to your favorite songs, and being creative with them - that's kind of what it's all about!

About Mike
Learning to play an instrument is a mixture of a lot of fun, and a lot of hard work. My strength is finding what will inspire my students to WANT to put in those difficult hours of practice, and then showing them how to apply what they have learned in a creative way, so that they experience the fun that music is supposed to be.

I help my students set - and reach - achievable goals. Learning this skill teaches them self esteem and also helps them discover their own learning style - a valuable tool, even if they do not pursue a career in music! I am gentle, but honest when a student arrives for a lesson unprepared, and am equally honest and enthusiastic when they demonstrate that they have put forth the effort to succeed.

I am not accepting many students, so that I can keep my schedule very performance heavy. This makes me a bet
ter teacher, and means that I only retain students who really want to progress.

I have been a drummer/percussionist in the Indianapolis music scene for nearly forty years. I regularly perform with the top players in many different genres and have played and recorded in a wide variety of venues and musical situations. In addition to playing my first instrument: the drum set. I also perform on various instruments, including: steel pan, vibraphone, and congas. I have extensive experience as a teacher beginning 30 years ago teaching at IRC music and Carmel Music Center.

My music education followed the classic route of mentoring under a local expert while working professionally. I studied for 16 years with Charles Mastropaolo (drummer for the Ed Sullivan show, and local jazz great) and was trained by him in improvisation, rudimental drumming, score reading/interpretation, Latin drumming, vibraphone, and performing all styles on the drum set. I have also been a member of the vibraphone workshop online teaching community for nine years. As a member, I have been able to further my education on all mallet instruments by online lessons with some of the top vibraphone players in the world.
I look forward to working with you!

Mike was really the best instructor I could have asked for. Knowledgeable, patient, and best of all, chill when he needed to be. I was just picking up the drums for a high school band I was in at the time, and he was more than willing to help me learn whatever dumb song me or my band had decided sounded cool at the time. At the same time, he showed me a lot of really excellent practice techniques, directed me to some solid literature for different rhythms to work on, and would sit with me through a whole hour of my relentless mistakes like it was nothing. More than a good instructor, he's a really cool guy! He never missed a beat!

Drummer with nearly 20 years experience playing in rock bands as well as in worship settings. Lessons begin with a focus on fundamentals of drumming (drum set) but can expand into what the student specifically wants to learn. We will also focus on the role of the drummer within a musical group and learn how to navigate those intricacies. Beginner and intermediate students preferred but all ages are welcome, its never too late to learn how to drum!

About Joel
I have been playing the drums for nearly 20 years, in which most of my experience is hands-on, playing in contemporary church worship teams and regional Christian rock bands with occasional teaching mixed in. Personally, my favorite style of music to play is rock/alternative but I also favor acoustic/folk styles, funky grooves, Latino rhythms, and the occasional metal, blues, or jazz beats.

No matter the musical style, playing with confidence, feeling the song, and having an awareness of other musicians can escalate you from a "good" drummer to a "great!" one; and this is what I teach my students. They will learn the fundamentals of stick position, rotary movements, basic drum hits and musical notation, as well as how to play on beat (with a "click"). These skills will enable the student to learn any style of music and increase their abi
lity to play the role of the drummer in virtually any band or musical group.

For example, the bands I have played in over the years have opened for multiple National acts like Red, Disciple, Project 86, and Decyfer Down and have played festivals and tours like Cornerstone Festival, Unity Festival, and Winter Jam, opening for Mercy Me, Jars of Clay, and Hawk Nelson. I truly believe that if you know your craft and have confidence in yourself, the sky is the limit for what you can do.

Currently, I play regularly at my local church and do worship nights and events in my area. I would be honored and pleased to work with you and help you become a great drummer!

I’ve had the privilege of playing guitar, with Joel as the drummer, in various bands. Hands down the best drummer I’ve ever played with. Joel is extremely attentive to what the rest of the band is doing which is a skill that so many drummers are missing. And he’s always on with that click track! Joel could always create whatever sounding fills I asked for, and then some. But ALWAYS tasteful. A very gifted musician.

Joel is also a man of integrity and an all around fun guy! One of my best friends on this earth!

I teach a wide variety of students ranging from beginners to advanced, with my youngest student being 5 years old and my oldest in his late 50's. I believe whether you are a beginner, thinking about music as a hobby or someone who wishes to pursue music as a career, I am positive I can cultivate and grow your musical capabilities based on your specific needs.

Providing my students with knowledge from a musician who is actively furthering their career is important to me, I want my students to know that I am aggressively pushing the boundaries of drumming alongside artists such as Grayson Erhard, Emma Mayes & the Hip, and my own jazz influenced hip-hop trio Smirk.

About Ryan
My name is Ryan and I offer private drum lessons.

Music, specifically drumming, is my passion. I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to make a living performing & teaching drums. Watching a student work on a new song for months and finally get to the point where they are ready to perform it is a truly great feeling. Many of my students have been with me since they started playing drums, I feel very grateful to maintain such fantastic students.

Any time I have a show locally in Colorado, I often put one of my students & their family on the guest list and allow them to come backstage and see what it's like to perform on stage in front of a crowd. This offers the student an opportunity to see their teacher perform and a fun night for the family.

You can catch me performing locally with Grayson Erhard, Emma Mayes & the Hip,
and Smirk.
