The viola is a beautiful instrument, full of warmth and depth for those willing to explore it. Viola lessons include theory, technique, repertoire, and more. We'll work together to design a lesson plan that works for you and your learning style.

About Gail
Gail started her music journey with a recorder, at the age of 3, and grew from there. She tried several instruments, including French horn and piano, before finding the violin, and later the viola. Little did she know that the viola would capture her heart.

In 2018, she moved from California to Texas, and found even more of what she loves: music!

Her teaching began by accident when her twins entered a TK program. Their teacher asked for help with music - how could she decline? She successfully wrote and taught the music program that was used for K-2 grade students at that school, and now teaches violin and viola to beginner through intermediate students, advanced for viola.

She specializes in working with children, but loves teaching kids of all ages (even adults!).

As a teacher, Gail is flexible and fun-loving. She believes
that music should always be fun, even when it's hard. Your child will love learning music with her, and she'll work with him/her to design a program just for them.

She's classically trained, but loves all music, especially baroque, renaissance and Celtic styles.

Gail is available for online lessons all over the world, and is happy to record them so you can review them all week long.

*** Lesson Details ***
A typical lesson consists of checking student's progress, addressing any immediate issues, and developing technique/knowledge.

In 3-6 months, your child should be:
* Reading music consistently at a level appropriate to their progress.
* Developing an understanding of rhythm and meter.
* Placing their fingers properly for the most part.
* Developing correct posture and holding their instrument and bow in a relaxed manner that suits their body type and facilitates the freedom of movement required for making great music.

I specialize in working with kids of all ages - from 5 to 95!

Comprehensive and fun lessons focusing on musicality, technique and music theory for all ages.

About Jessica
Dear students and parents,

Hello and welcome to takelessons.com! My name is Jessica and I am classically trained violinist with over 19 years of playing experience. I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and recently relocated to Saint Louis with my family. Music has always been passion of mine since a very young age, so it was inevitable that it would end up being my career. Naturally, a love for teaching the wonders of music followed suit!

I always try to form a great rapport with my students and parents from the very first lesson. For younger students, I encourage my parents to take an active part in both lessons and daily practice, as is encouraged by Shinichi Suzuki.

I've been teaching violin and viola professionally for over 10 years now. My experience includes teaching private lessons at students homes as well as at
various music schools, summer camps and festivals. A few advanced students have even attended and performed in some of these aforementioned festivals! I am always encouraging my students to go above and beyond.

A bit of background about me: I started my music studies at the age of 7. Lessons and orchestra were literally the highlight of my childhood. I ended up attending the Baltimore School for the Arts for high school, and went on to receive my Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Shenandoah University and complete further studies in England, Northern Ireland and Maryland (UMBC graduate certificate). I am also a registered Suzuki Violin/Viola teacher and have attended many teachers workshops in order to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to work with any and all types of students, including those with learning disabilities, such as ADD and FAS.

*** Lesson Details ***
While I am a registered Suzuki violin teacher, I do not teach solely out of a certain method or "by the book"; I choose and mold every lesson depending on specific, strengths, weaknesses, etc. If you are a more advanced, serious player, more intensive lessons and repertoire will follow suit.

I am comfortable teaching all ages and levels up to advanced. Use of games make learning the violin fun and accessible for young children. Older and more advanced students receive a more technical, intensive and advanced approach. Coaching and weekly help on school assigned materials (orchestra/string class music and homework) Classical, Jazz, Gypsy and Fiddle styles are all introduced and studied to give students a rounded technique. Music theory (reading and understanding music) is incorporated in lessons. Repertoire is diverse and exciting. Various approaches for the visual or aural learner. Guaranteed to keep you or your child engaged and interested!

*** Equipment and Studio Lesson Details ***

-If you are coming to my home for lessons, please be sure to bring your instrument and any books you may already have.

**Please note, there are three cats in the house. They are usually isolated to a different part of the house during lessons to ensure there are no unnecessary distractions and to help minimize potential allergies (studio is also sprayed with allergy reducer spray and vacuumed regularly). All are UTD on shots. Please call and ask to schedule a "trial" lesson to see if the animals interfere with allergies.

New students:
You may park on the Clayton Rd outside our house or on the cul-de-sac next to the house and walk down.
I have a trial 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 size violin to use for the first lesson if your child is a beginner.
After the first lesson I will send an email explaining what materials and equipment I recommend you buy to help you sound your best.

Places to rent or buy instruments will be recommended upon request.

*** Cancellation/Reschedule Requests ***
1) At least 24 hours notice is required if you need to cancel your, or your child's, lesson. You will be given the option to take a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons on your calendar, or the option to reschedule for a different day within a week of the canceled lesson.

2) If you find that you need to cancel with less than 24 hours notice (I completely understand life happens, and sometimes it is unavoidable to provide 24hr notice), you will be given the option to make up your lesson within 7 calendar days of your originally scheduled lesson time. If you cannot do a makeup lesson, this will result in the lesson being marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.

3) If you do not show up to your lesson scheduled at my home studio and no notice was given, the lesson will be marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.

4) If I need to reschedule or cancel a lesson for whatever reason, you will be given an option for a makeup lesson or given a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons.

5) I require two weeks notice to discontinue lessons if you would like to receive a refund or be exempt from paying future tuition.

6) All lessons are billed ahead of schedule and must be paid in advance in order to keep your lesson slot.

I strongly believe that, if every child would be provided with an ideal environment, would gain extraordinary ability. There are no exceptions. No one can tell how able man is by the nature. What is known is the ability that is spoiled or developed. It cannot be denied that most children speak their native languages beautifully by learning about 3000-4000 words by age 5 or 6. Nothing can clearer demonstrate of the original power of the human mind. Through the years of studying and teaching music I realized that this is the most important concept for developing each kid's talent, to increase his or her ability to the maximum. Therefore I am combining the great methods of teaching violin. The Suzuki method and the Russian school method. Suzuki method helps at the earliest stage of playing an instrument and I am using later Russian school method for more advanced period of studying.

TEACHING
As a performer, soloist and active chamber musician, and as a pedagogue, I provide private lessons to any individual interested in the art of music, education, and the good times. My teaching welcomes individuals from the youngest to college students. My primary instrument is the Viola, and simultaneously I focus on the instruction of the Violin, and the early and beginning studies of the piano. I have great experience as master class teacher, sectional leader, group teaching, and individual or one-in-one pioneer.

About Maria
BIOGRAPHY
Violist Maria F. V. began her music studies at the Carabobo Music Conservatory where she played in the Infantile & Youth Orchestras, and in the Carabobo Symphony Orchestra. She then transcended her studies to the Simon Bolivar Music Conservatory and into the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela. She has performed with different other orchestras such Venezuela Youth National Orchestra, New Jersey Youth Orchestra, Peru National Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Symphony Orchestra, and Latin-American Symphony Orchestra. She has worked with conductors such as Eduardo Salazar, Joshua Dos Santos, Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Simon Rattle and Claudio Abbado.

She holds a BM Performance degree from University of Kentucky, and a MM Performance degree from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro where she worked as Teacher Assistant under Sco
tt Rawls. She has attended several music festivals within the United States and Internationally such as: Cincinnati Conservatory Music Festival, Cleveland Institute of Music Viola Workshop, Brevard Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Orford Music Center in Canada, Parma Conservatory-Italy, Musica en Compostela in Spain, and many others. Back at home in Venezuela she is considered founder of el Sistema’s Carabobo Music Conservatory. Her Major teachers include Santiago Garmendia, Margaret Karp, John Graham, and Scott Rawls.

THE OUTCOMES
Apart from the academic outcomes the student will obtain at lessons, my intentions as a teacher and artist is to incorporate and welcome the student in the fantastic music world and literature. One of the many purposes of music is the idea of the student developing a sense of responsibility along with following tasks in a didactic and dynamic manner. I love bringing and promoting the idea and the philosophy of enthusing and inculcating a leadership position of the student in the family, and building most importantly a harmonic and artistic environment among their relatives and into their homes. I love to program and propose little student recitals in where the student will have the opportunity in performing the pieces worked throughout the teaching sessions in a little concert for their friends and family. Every student loves the fun in which they get from these opportunities and from their performance experiences. I do believe that the learning and instruction of music is an important influential factor in participating and in the development of many other abilities and skills; in the expansion and promotion of creativity, the adoption of a more discipline attitude for other arts, it helps to easier approach other academic courses, and to focus on developing the tools and creativity to participate at their schools and anywhere else.

METHODOLOGIES
About the teaching methods used, I basically like to approach the beginner student through the methods of Suzuki, which is a very efficient and didactic method most pedagogues uses today. This one is a clear method that demands from the student and it simultaneous engages the interaction and participation of their parents, family, friends, and their community as well. In other occasions, it is most common that I would also incorporate a new student to my studio-transfer students-, who would have used other materials and methods with his/her previous instructor. In this case I would continue using his/her methods to examine the level and content learned and practiced. Then, it is in later lessons where we might establish and suggest other good methods and books to which the student might be ready to switch or scale up to.

It was truly a pleasure meeting Concetta for my first ever violin lesson. It is difficult to learn anything at the age 40, specially a musical instrument, but she made it comfortable and easy to understand. She's extremely patient a key quality when teaching a subject such a music to anyone. I would say, give her teaching style a try and you won't regret it. Very knowledgeable indeed.

Viola - the hidden gem of the strings family! As a violinist who made the jump to viola, I strive to help violists really shine in a world dominated by the violin!

About Danielle
Hello! My name is Danielle and I'm a strings teacher (don't worry - I teach the fun stuff too!). I've been playing violin since age 5, viola since age 13, and 'cello since age 18. I have Bachelors Degrees in Violin Performance and Music Education from James Madison University, and I play both Violin and Viola in Symphonicity, the volunteer orchestra in Virginia Beach.

I've taught everything from private lessons to private school to public school and am a truly passionate teacher. I currently teach general music, choir and strings at an elementary school but I love to fill my nights/weekends with private students - that's where the real fun is!

I've taught ages 4-44 and all skill levels. I take particular pride in developing technique and fundamental skills while keeping lessons light hearted and fun! It is my ultimate goal to spark
a love and passion for music in each of my students.

I always encourage students to explore music on their own and bring me repertoire that they'd like to play (from their favorite movies, TV shows, video games, etc.). Those are a great and engaging supplement to the solo repertoire I choose!

Send me a message to get to know more about me and my teaching. I look forward to hearing from you!
Musically,
Danielle

I am a professional violinist, violist and cellist. I've served as principal 2nd violinist with the Tampa Bay Symphony for 8 years. I've also played in numerous other groups like the St. Petersburg Opera, Space Coast Pops Orchestra, Bach Festival Orchestra and String Quartets for Weddings.

As a child, I wanted to be like Mozart and was inspired by cartoon and film music. So, I started composing at the age of 8.
My high-school orchestra performed and recorded two of my works.
I went on to Rollins College in Winter Park, FL in 2000 and earned a B.A. in Music Performance (viola). After graduation, I managed a violin shop for a few years and learned about string repairs and sales. I took some Suzuki teacher training in 2008 in NC and then taught at Sam Ash Music Superstore in FL for 9 years
where I wrote over 20 pop rock arrangements for st
ring quartet.
My passion comes from darker sounds but I also enjoy light and dance-able sounds as well. I continue to practice everyday because there is always something to improve upon. I'm currently doing deeper study into the Bluegrass genre because it is fairly new territory for me. It's always exciting to learn new tricks!

Dawn is an amazing performer, theorist, composer, and teacher. It is more than obvious how much she cares about her students and their progress, and that they are taken down the proper path with solid foundations. In addition to outstanding instruction on string technique, Dawn provides a level of theoretical insight that I regularly use to blow the mind of my piano teacher. I have been teaching violin for six years. Though I am classically trained, my interest in music goes far beyond classical music. I am constantly listening to various genres of music and consider myself a forever learner, loving everything in music from Prokofiev to the Flaming Lips. It is my job to help guide my students through their musical journeys, whether that is helping them get into their regional orchestra or teaching them that one song they've always wanted to learn. I teach out of the Essential Elements or Suzuki Method books. Though my lessons are fun and relaxed I will always give my students that extra push when needed. My goal is to help each student reach their personal success and to instill a love for playing music.

Tools for lessons:

Music Stand
Rosin
Shoulder rest or sponge
Previous method books (if you are not a first time learner)

Pencil

I'm an adult learner who went through Suzuki book 2 and a few other pieces with Phoebe as my instructor. I spent a month prior with a "bad experience" and hadn't taken lessons in probably 10 years before that.

Working with Phoebe was GREAT. She was very easy to work with and really saw to improving my skills. She was encouraging and very positive. When I had troubles with parts (which was often), she would always have multiple suggestions as to how to practice them to work through the difficulties. She also gave me nudges along when I didn't think I could do certain things too. All in all, I had a great experience working with Phoebe and would have loved to continue to work with her if she was still in my local area.

If you're wondering why not 5 stars, that's more from my lack of experience than any issue with her. The guide says 5 stars is the "best teacher ever". She probably was the best teacher ever for me, but I'm somewhere between beginner and intermediate. Is she a good fit for an advanced student, I'm going to guess that, yes, she is, but I don't know that info personally so I went with 4.
