I went into banjo lessons not knowing if I could master the instrument or not, being nearly 70 years old. While by no means a master (and never going to be), I have learned so much from Sam and he has shown such patience with me. I often leave my lessons wondering how he ever puts up with me - but he does. His encourgement, laid-back style, expertise and knowledge of music (plus theory) and the banjo is impressive. His good nature makes my lessons so much more pleasant. I would say Sam is a a great teacher for both a beginner or an accomplished musician or in between. He likes to talk and demonstrate (nice and slowly if requested) so I would recommend hour-long lessons at first.

In my 10+ years of teaching violin to hundreds of students, I've always believed in nurturing a love for playing the instrument and that the best practicing stems from passion and playfulness. Before moving to NYC, I kept a full teaching studio in Santa Monica, CA and helped start several youth music programs. I approach all levels with a hybrid of traditional and modern methods and an emphasis on technical proficiency through improvisation and creativity.

About Javier
For over 10 years, I've taught violin to hundreds of students of all ages and levels, many from their very first notes on the instrument. Lessons are always engaging and inspiring! I'm here to help, so wherever you want to go in your musical journey, I want to help you get there.

Besides being passionate about teaching, I'm a professional touring and recording violinist. I'm proud to say that my students have won top awards (Topanga Fiddle Competition, Royal Conservatory Music Development Program) and placed in some of the top youth orchestras in the country. I maintained a studio of 20-30 students for many years in Los Angeles at the SOL-LA Music Academy, before recently moving to NYC.

From good technique to reading music and playing by ear, excellence is the goal.

About Anna
Hi there! I'm Anna, and I'm looking forward to meeting you. I've been offering private piano lessons since 2009 and offer foundations in music theory, technique, sight-reading and classic piano repertoire.

I begin most students in Faber method books, before branching into classical repertoire including selections from Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary time periods. My teaching style is flexible though, so I'll be happy to adapt to your individual liking and needs.

In 2012 I graduated from Thomas Edison State College with a degree in music and in 2017 I completed my Master's in Education from Post University. Today I enjoy teaching music to students ranging from six years old through adult.

I believe quality practice and motivation are key to success, and I'm looking forward to helping you succeed!

Anna is an extremely knowledgeable and skilled musician, which inspires her students to want to excel themselves! My 7year old son has been taking lessons from Anna for about 2 years. He is excited to go to his lesson each week! Although my son struggles with some dyslexia, Anna is extremely patient with him and makes him feel like he is valuable and capable. She has adjusted the method and curriculum to find something that works well for him. She carefully explains the lessons, makes my son feel so special, and inspires him to want to learn.

Students can expect a passionate, caring teacher who will work to help them achieve their violin goals. My goal is introduce students to the joy that a violin can bring and inspire a lifetime love.

About Lisa C.
After playing the violin for over 20 years, Lisa was inspired to share the gift of music with others by her teacher, Susanna Sonnenberg. Lisa is a member of the American String Teacher’s Association, and has attended the 2017 ASTA National Conference. She currently performs with the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra. Lisa has played in recitals, the Chartiers Valley High School Orchestra, and was accepted to the 2006 PMEA District Orchestra. She has studied with Larry Weiss, Linda Andersen, and others. Lisa can’t remember a time before she learned how to play the violin; it has brought her great joy. Her favorite piece to play is the Bach Double Concerto in D Minor.

At 8 years old, Lisa fell in love with the violin. Throughout school, she studied with private teachers and played with the school orchestra. At home, her dogs were a great audie
nce.

Lisa went on to study history at the University of Pittsburgh, and later earned her law degree from Duquesne. She never forgot her violin, though, and continued to play in her spare time.

Music adds beauty to the world, and finally, after years of keeping the violin to herself, Lisa decided to share her playing with others. Lisa teaches traditional, classical method. The method books she uses include: Essential Elements for Strings, Samuel Applebaum, and All for Strings, among others. She supplements the technical exercises with repertoire from the Suzuki series. Lisa enjoys playing all types of music, in addition to classical, and teaches these songs, as well. Additional music includes pop artists like Taylor Swift, classic rock, electronic music like Lindsey Stirling, celtic, folk, and just about any other type of music you can think of. As a teacher, Lisa strives to be positive and encouraging. She believes that music should be fun, so her main goal is to make sure her students are having a good time!

I have participated in Lisa's TakeLessons online Live group classes recently and I have not been disappointed. Lisa takes her time to introduce new material and ensures that her students understand the material. She is very easy going and demonstrates the skill set of what a violinist should be able to do. I would highly recommend Lisa as a private teacher or recommend her TakeLessons Live group classes.

I have taught privately for 6 years now, and I love every minute of it! Private lessons give students the best change to connect, create, and focus specifically on areas that allow them to grow rapidly as musicians.
I have taught students from ages 4 to 54; no one is too old or young to learn something new!
In our lessons we will work on proper violin set-up, technique, intonation, and musicality in general. Over the years, I have come to run my lessons a certain way but I am always open to student feedback. I want students to be involved in structuring their lessons and creating their own goals pertaining to music.

About Rachel
Rachel LaRocca is a violinist and Music Education major at Kennesaw State University. She is currently student teaching at Johns Creek High School under the direction of Mr. Young Kim. She will graduate in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. She was a member of the KSU Symphony Orchestra and studied privately with Kenn Wagner of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for 4 years during her undergrad.
A 2014 graduate of Starr’s Mill High School, Miss LaRocca served as concertmaster of her school orchestra as well as the Fayette Philharmonic Orchestra. She has taught private violin lessons for six years and also works as a violin clinician at the high school and middle school level. Miss LaRocca taught with the KSU String Project for three years as a beginning string teacher. She is a collegiate member of the Georgia Music
Educators Association, the American String Teachers Association, and the National Association for Music Educators.

"I will always treat my students how I would like to be treated; with kindness, maturity, and respect. I hope to bring up students who are passionate, kind, respectful, and full of integrity. I plan to hold my students to a higher standard and always teach to their full potential."
