Every actor has their own strengths and weaknesses. It is my goal to pull out strengths, develop, and help achieve a natural and realistic performance. From the audition to the final performance, my actors are ready for anything that is thrown at them.
Becoming successful depends on your definition of success. It could be professional theatre, film and television, community theatre, school plays, or just to gain confidence in yourself. Whatever your path to success is, it’s all about using your strengths to help connect to each and every role you play. This is our focus, your strengths to achieve naturalism and realism.
No matter what your goals are, I am focused on helping you find the best possible path towards your version of success. Every road is different and that’s what makes every actors story so interesting.
Currently in the NYC area, Kristofer Kauff began his career as an actor working on shows from Off-Broadway, Regional, Community Theater, Film and Television, as well as Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. His true passion, however, lies in directing where he has forged an extensive career over the last 19 years. He believes in a collaborative effort to reach honest and true performances. Kris's resourcefulness, experience, patience, and passion are the cornerstones of each production. He is a proud associate member of SDC.

Throughout his career, Kris has dedicated himself to directing shows with a natural and realistic approach, making productions accessible to new and seasoned audiences. In the rehearsal process he allow actors to search for the reality in their characters and relationships, always staying within the shows overall vision. Kris truly loves working with actors and designers, and believes in leading a collaborative effort.
Kristofer has taken great pride in sharing his passion and knowledge through workshops, classes, and private coaching. In 2000 he headed workshops and directed theatre for younger audiences with MicheLee Puppets in Orlando, FL. Since then he has served as the Theatre Director for Camp Echo Lake in NY (2004-2008) and is currently the Performing Arts Director at Maine Arts Camp (Since 2011).

Script analysis, character development, and physicality study will be used to be able to give a commanding performance in front of a live audience.
My critique during your lesson is always honest, so you know when I give you a compliment it is well deserved. I especially love working with non-singers and helping them find their voice. I always start with an assessment to see where your work is currently at and where we can go from there. I keep notes during your lesson, send you an email afterwards with your homework for the week, then I use those notes to think of personalized ways to improve your technique before your next lesson.

My main emphasis, however, is fine arts. I have acted in 15+ productions from High school, Community Theatre, and College productions. (musicals and straight plays). I have also worked behind the scenes as a stage manager, choreographer, and Head of Makeup/Hair design on separate occasions. My MFA is from a top 3 actor training program. I have been coaching actors for over a decade. I live in Los Angeles and work professionally as an actor in theatre, film, and television. I have such a wide variety of techniques at my disposal that I bring whatever technique seems to be best suited to the you and the material you are working on. 1. Table Work and Scene Study- CHOICES and SPECIFICITY are key! We see where the actor is in their table work by ask 4 questions to make their performance more specific. (Full Sessions of Scene Study are also available)
2. Taping the Session- Even if it’s not a TV and Film audition we’ve found it’s very helpful for actors to visually see what’s working and what isn’t.
3. Moment to Moment- We go event by event to make sure every moment is filled with interesting choices and then we put it together. (This also helps find the events and changes in the scene)
4. Visualizing the Audition- Close to the end of the session we will role play the entire audition process from start to finish. You will go home with the tape from that exercise.
5. Performance Anxiety Relief- Stephanie has studied many method to relieve performance anxiety and if necessary we can find the best one ...

I teach singers in all genres, though I have the most experience in MT, folk, and pop. My goal is to help students not only learn to sing with the utmost vulnerability and honesty, but to ensure that they can do so while maintaining safe technique through breathing and relaxation. I work hard to eliminate affectations and habits to find the most uninhibited and expressive that the student's voice has to offer. MT singers will also focus largely on acting and finding authenticity within the suspended reality of song.
Lessons are tailored to the music taste and needs of the student and lesson plans are completely individualized to ensure the student is learning at growing at whatever pace suits their path while making sure they're still having fun and making art. If the student is interested in writing their own music, good news! I'm always willing to help fellow songwriters with composition.
I also offer lessons to child singers and actors as I love nothing more than seeing kid artists. Children's voice lessons are largely based in Musical Theatre/classics, focusing on ear training, sheet music, phrasing, rhythms, and breathing while children's acting lessons are based largely in classic/contemporary film and theatre, focusing on projection, clarity, commitment, and confidence.

I've been a Professor of Acting/Directing for over thirty years. I've taught at a small liberal arts college in Vermont and in a professional training program in Las Vegas. I coach actors to personalize material and to create bold, innovative choices in a fun, supportive environment. I was recently awarded the Gold Medallion for extraordinary contributions in Teaching and Producing Theatre by the Kennedy Center. “ . . . It is the most prestigious award given by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and is considered one of the great honors of theatre education.” Eight Gold Medallions are awarded nationally each year by The Kennedy Center. Three words to describe Cathy as an acting teacher: HONEST, CONCISE, and ENCOURAGING.
HONEST: Cathy does not sugarcoat. She tells you how she sees it. This is how she builds trust with her actors so that they can stop sabotaging themselves through internalizing and overanalyzing themselves. She creates a professional relationship with you to feel confident in making strong, bold choices and assessing the results after. This has made my experiences both in auditions and rehearsals extremely successful.
CONCISE: People in the theatre do a lot of talking. Cathy gets to the point both in how she speaks to her actors and how she directs. Acting is an art form but at the professional level there are prescriptive elements required of an actor so that text can be analyzed properly, choices can be appropriately made, and through it all there is always truth both in action and word. Cathy gets her actors to that point without grandiose tangents that, frankly, get the actor no where.
ENCOURAGING: Cathy wants everyone to succeed. She wants the story to be told truthfully. She expects a great deal from her students and in return guides you with empathy and patience so that you will be able to look back at your work and be equally as proud of yourself as she is of you.
I owe a great deal to Cathy. I have worked regionally and Off-Broadway since graduating and that has a lot to do with the tools she has given me. She helped me build a very strong artistic foundation and I continue to hone my skills because, as she always reminds her students, there is always more work that can be done.

I specialize in Shakespeare and Classical Theatre by using the text as an acting script, not a literary document. Using the language and the cues within the text, I present a practical approach that erases the fear and give a set of keys that can be used in any play.
