I am a classically trained artist who works primarily in oil.
My main genre is portraiture and I have taught life drawing and portrait painting in both the UK and USA.
Would be delighted to share many years of experience and teach from foundations of painting and drawing to more complex subjects like colour theory and composition.
My studio is located in downtown Santa Barbara but I am happy to travel and teach at your home as well as teach painting landscapes outdoors.

I have been a professional oil painter for 36 years and have taught oil and acrylic painting classes fro over a decade. I teach a casual, fun but serious style class. My goal is to teach the basics of creating a simple strong painting in a semi realistic style. However, my goal is to allow the student to develop their own individual style. Understanding the creative process is also key to making good art.

Hi! Are you frustrated with muddy and poor color choices in your paintings, the inaccurate drawing of your subject, and overall mediocrity? I will help you overcome the fear and frustration of painting with some sound color theory and drawing methods. You can learn to apply colors that are bold and fresh. As artists who continually learn, I believe there is no wrong in exploring colors, When we continue to paint, we learn what didn't work and apply what does work. That is how we improve! The more we practice in small steps and the greater our success!

I have over 30 years experience with painting, sketching, and Color theory. My passion is to share my knowledge and understanding. I have been consistently teaching groups and a one on one basis for the past 3 years. I understand from an early age the impact art has. I would love to help you build a foundation of art and give you the tools to create when ever you desire. I specialize in beginners/intermediate and will customize each lesson to fit your need. I have more than 10 years of experience in teaching drawing and painting in university and college.
I cover realistic style to abstract art with watercolor, oil, or acrylic. Also, you will learn a variety of techniques like glazing, impasto, and alla prima. subject matter can start with still life and continue architecture, landscape, and figurative art.
