I've been teaching German for 2 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to speak in simple conversations and as time goes on you'll be able to use German grammar. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Sheila
I have earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Redlands. As a professional singer, I have performed in numerous concerts and operas. I've sung in both choral and solo settings, as well as fully staged productions. Throughout my education, I have played piano and even participated in Certificate of Merit testing. These experiences have all helped shape me into a well rounded singer.

In lessons, I devote equal amounts of time to technique and repertoire. We will always begin by warming up, and working on some exercises. Then we will implement your new techniques into your repertoire, which I will tailor to your specific needs and wants.

Above all, though, I want to help you realize your dreams as a musician! Looking forward to getting started!

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice: I believe techniq
ue comes first and foremost, because it will free you to give everything you've got in performance! We will work on breath support, tone quality and proper placement, and then sing through your repertoire to put these techniques into practice.

Piano: Learning music theory goes hand in hand with playing piano. As you play your pieces, we will also explore the fundamental concepts of music theory (basic rhythm, treble and bass clef, major and minor), giving you a well rounded approach to mastering the piano. These skills will take you a long way in your musical path!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha Upright piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
Stickers for little ones! I also bring repertoire books to share with my students.

*** Specialties ***
Classical singing technique, applicable to all styles of singing

*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****

I grew up bilingual English and German, attending an international school from a very young age. I attended, also, a German public secondary school, where I earned a diploma, and I completed German credits at the college level. I taught German in the language lab of a community college, for special needs students, and for private agencies, such as Tutor Doctor. My emphasis is on a comparative introduction of the language to draw out a common ground and familiarize possibly daunting differences. I also enjoy asserting that German is often underestimated as a rewarding second language to study. I have experience teaching German literature, elementary German, and German grammar. I lived in Germany for over 18 years. I am member of the Association for Language Learning, located in Leicester, UK.

My style and attitude toward teaching tends to be conversational, reflective, and interactive, along the lines of current research on effective education. I have developed a talent with certain creative arts, such as imaginative writing and electronic music production; as a result, I am computer literate, capable of assisting with computer assembly, maintenance, and design, as well as productivity software. Due to my limited funds, I do not have direct experience with the Adobe suite, but I have extensive knowledge of related, free distributions that are transferable. I also have formal education in the field of English, innovative leadership, and Education.
My current level is ABD in a PhD program that is thus nearing completion. I am member of the Association for Language Learning, located in Leicester, UK.
My most popular subjects are as follows:

American-English Pronunciation Practice for ESL (AEPP-ESL):
*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****

Carefully following Burkkowsky's (1969) multi-media method, I have taught this subject for over five years for public and private causes, such as library, individuals, and language schools. My emphasis for pronunciation is a scientific, comprehensive overview and treatment of the various sounds, rhythms, inflections, and patterns the spoken language integrates. I encourage practicing and mastering both the sounds themselves, as well as how the sounds are connected and contextualized. I use contemporary sound recording and .wav editing software to involve audio feedback and self-monitoring.

Sources: Burkkowsky, Mitchess (1969) Teaching American Pronunciation to Foreign Students. New York: Warren Green, 1969.

German Language and Culture:

Microsoft Excel:

This spreadsheet and data management software program is of crucial, pivotal importance in any business and financial environment. The program enables efficient and prompt development of arithmetic and statistical calculations of vast data sets. It also helps to visualize and juxtapose related or even discrepant variables. My approach to teaching the program is cumulative and holistic, starting with an introduction to personal inventory management to the processing of large data sets using pivot tables, charts, and dashboards. My emphasis is on making the program as intelligible and transparent as possible to avoid frustration and intimidation. I use a lot of examples and visuals that are readily available.

Typing:

I teach the touch-typing method that is the convention for most journalistic and input-intensive organizational settings. I teach the home row, proper finger and hand positions, proficiency with left and right hands, as well as posture and concentration methods. I enrich the teaching with resources from the web, such as speed-building and error reduction.

I highly recommend, the best teacher I’ve had. Responsible! Caring!

I took TOEFL perpetration classes with Henry. He is very knowledgeable and a great teacher. Because of his experience in journalism he has amazing knowledge in writing, reading, speaking, He worked on my general English skills first because I thought I had enough proficiency in English while I didn't, and after some classes he started TOEFL, he definitely knows what area of English I was weak in so, step by step, he lead me in the right direction. He's very responsible and carrying. I got a higher score than I was expecting.

I began learning German my freshman year of high school. The language came very easily to me, partly due to my very strong interest in German language and culture. I continued taking German all through High School through the AP test which I passed with a 4. After Graduation I moved to Sonoma State University where I studied briefly but made an array of German friends with whom I still speak occasionally. Having German friends allowed my proficiency and fluency to grow exponentially and through this experience I learned the importance of a one on one setting for language acquisition. I believe students of any language benefit greatly from time spent in informal discussions about everyday life, this builds the confidence that leads to fluency.

About Alexander
I've been a personal academic tutor since August of 2013 specializing in basic math, pre-algebra, algebra, and algebra 2 as well as English and German. I also love teaching music. I specialize in ukulele and guitar and have been playing guitar since I was 15 and picked up the ukulele at 18. I have experience teaching people of from 8 - 70 years old and with a wide range of backgrounds, needs, and goals.

A little about myself. I was born and raised in the Sacramento area. I have 3 younger siblings ranging from 10 to 12 years younger than me, so I have experience teaching younger children as well. One of my sisters is special needs with autism and mild CP. I understand the difficulties children with special needs can face in school especially in math and language arts. I am currently studying at Sierra college with a major in computer
science. I love teaching and learning and helping people succeed. There is no greater accomplishment than helping someone go from staring blankly at the task in front of them, to them suddenly grasping it, sharing in their success and sense of accomplishment is magical.

I love all things German and my aim is to encourage my students to feel the same. I've been teaching German for 3 years. My students go from knowing no German to being able to hold conversations to eventually completing their grad studies in a German speaking country!

Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to introduce yourself and before you know it be a German whizz. I try to base my lessons around modern German pop culture typically using current events as inspiration. My lessons feature video links, audio, worksheets, textbooks, and more.

About Sam
Hi!

My name is Sam (short for Samantha). I'm from England but have been living and teaching in the USA since 2014 where I studied for my MA in German Studies at the University of Florida. I started learning German in school at 14 so I know what it's like to learn this language as well as teaching it. I perfected my German skills by studying German as my major at undergrad, studying in Düsseldorf plus living and working in Berlin. I have a huge love for all things German and want to pass that on to you. German can be a tough language to learn but it really is rewarding. I consider myself to be an approachable teacher who will always strive to steer your lessons to cover things that interest you personally.

About Sami
Love drives some to madness. But you know what love drove me to? German. Following a 6-month relationship with a German exchange student my junior year of high school, learning German became my life calling. I feel slightly guilty to admit my numerous hours spent religiously rehearsing different phrases, song lyrics, and grammar rules. Clearly my idea of fun was a bit skewed for a 16-year old hehe.

Spilling into my college years, my passion drove me to major in the German language and spend nearly 5 months in Germany teaching the youth about human rights and cultural understanding. My last month there, I was confused for a native on multiple occasions, which got me thinking - or dreaming, I should say. The dream that I'm working toward daily is to move to Germany and assist Middle Eastern refugees in assimilation, utilizing my Arabic a
nd German language skills. Step by step & day by day, I'm making my way to the beautiful Deutschland.

From a co-trainer perspective I can only highlight Sami's competence to explain content and to choose the right method for every learner. And most important: Sami made me learn something new about my own native language German!

I speak fluent German with near-native proficiency. Having spent a significant amount of time living in German-speaking Europe, I am aware of cultural nuances in the language and have gone through the process of mastering German myself. All levels are welcome! Whatever your goals for learning German may be, I will help you achieve them.

About David
Hi! I am a student at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where I just finished a Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance. In the fall I will stay here to begin a Master of Music degree. I am primarily trained in classical music, but have ventured out into different genres and styles and can help you meet your musical goals. I believe a strong foundation and technical ability is important in playing any genre of music, so lessons should normally be formed around cellistic development. I teach all levels and would love to help you explore learning an instrument.

I also teach German. I began learning German as a child, and after several years moved to Germany for a time with my family. There I was enrolled in the school system and learned to speak the language at a near-native level. I strongly believe that
anyone can learn a language, and regardless of what your goals are, I would love to help you in this process!

I have more than 30 years of experience teaching German Language at a University Level. I have completed German Language Instruction courses in Germany.

About Ali
My one-on-one German lessons focus on each student’s needs and goals. The following descriptions of learning levels will help you to classify your own level. They also help me organize the teaching process so that I can create useful material. While these levels are helpful guides, they are just suggestions; I am very flexible in my teaching and will make sure the student is reaching his or her goals:

The Basic 1 level focuses on the basic development of grammar skills. By the end of this level, students will be able to create everyday expressions and basic phrases. Students will build basic vocabulary and listening skills while developing a foundation in German grammar.

The Advanced level focuses on the development of conversation and communication skills. Conversation topics are drawn from articles, movies, TV shows, culture, etc. Dur
