I love to teach and have taught many hundreds of students over the past twenty years. Many of my students have gone on to professional careers in the music field. I am primarily trained in classical guitar and I also teach rock, folk, finger-style and jazz basics. I strive to help students deepen their love of music and to form a connection through that. Experience has shown me that all development as a musician arises from these factors. I look forward to meeting and having fun together!

About Roger
I love teaching! I love connecting with people to find out what inspires them and I feel that I learn as much from my students as I teach them.

I have over 25 years of playing experience in a variety of styles and nearly 20 years of experience teaching the guitar to many hundreds students of all ages and backgrounds. I have taught in many different situations, including through schools, music stores and privately. I am primarily trained as a classical guitarist and I hold a Master of Music Degree in Guitar Performance from The Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University. I have been told by many of my students that I am patient, understanding, very approachable and fun.

Whatever our goals may be in learning to play a musical instrument, the experience and skills we gain in doing so can serve us in every area of our li
ves.

Music is for me a journey of self-discovery. I would love to share in and be a guide on your journey too!

Roger was my first guitar teacher, and one of the best teachers that I've had the pleasure to work with. As a professional guitarist, I have had the chance to look back on when I was studying with Roger and compare my opinion now to the opinion I had while I was studying with him. My opinion now is the same as it was back then: Roger is an exceptionally capable and talented educator. He is very easy to work with and is always flexible in each lesson. Flexibility is important; an ideal teacher will have lesson plans with specific skills that he/she feels the student needs to learn, but they will also allow the student's current interests to guide the lessons. Roger was always happy to address any questions or concerns I had, but also made sure to guide my attention to critical skills that helped me grow as a musician. One such skill is proper technique, which is necessary for improving the student's ability to play and for preventing injury. With his background as a classical guitarist, Roger was able to teach me perfect left and right hand technique, which is something I still consider to be one of my strongest assets as a guitarist. His skills and interests extend far beyond classical guitar into genres like rock and jazz. In our lessons we would work on just about anything. We covered topics and styles like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Wes Montgomery, improvisation, James Taylor's fingerstyle playing, music theory, and sight reading. Overall, I found Roger to be an ideal teacher for students at any skill level, from total beginners to those who are highly experienced.

Roger taught guitar lessons to my son Jeffery for 7 years (starting from age 7). Roger is very competent in teaching all ages and making sure the lessons were age appropriate and interesting.

Jeffery really looked forward to weekly lessons with Roger which were only discontinued because we relocated out of state. Roger was not only a teacher but also a mentor to Jeffery, allowing my son to explore all genres of music and methods.

Roger is classically trained and teaches his students to read music and is knowledgeable and offers up to date music lessons.

My son is now in college and taking a music major. I am truly convincined that Roger's influence and care helped grow Jeffery's natural interest in music. I would highly recommend Roger for music lessons. He is a gifted teacher.

I want to help you find your voice. Anyone can play a guitar, but it takes some hard work, determination, and proper guidance to truly sound great when playing one. My curriculum will be determined by your goals, but most everyone will be subjected to some amount of ear training, hand and body posture training, technique, and basic theory. I will teach you to play an acoustic or electric guitar with a pick or with your fingers (or both).

Another often overlooked advantage of having a guitar teacher is having somebody to reach out to for guidance when buying a new instrument. I won't charge you for that, though; I like exploring a music shop as much as anyone else!

About Francis
Hi everyone! I'm a hard-working musician with a background in live performance, songwriting, composition, and home recording. I want to help you perform the music you love, whether you're playing to your family, your webcam, or a 15,000 seat arena. I have been teaching private music lessons since 2007.

I am a graduate of UCSD, where I completed my bachelor's degree in music theory and composition. I have taken years of private lessons, played bass, guitar, and mandolin in local and touring bands, and my music has been featured on at least 7 albums. I want to make your goals accessible, and I want to help you find your sound.

*** Lesson Details ***
I focus on making lessons fun for my students. I emphasize the importance of practicing on your own and building confidence by performing live and/or writing your own songs. I love to hel
p people get better at sounding like themselves.

During lessons from me, you can expect to play, sing, clap your hands, and become completely immersed in the music you love. Whether your goal is to perform in front of an audience, record albums, or just play for fun in your living room, I'll help you make that happen.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room, seating available, street parking.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I only teach students who provide their own instrument. I am willing to provide a loaner guitar for the week if a student's instrument needs to be repaired or is not accessible for any reason. I also provide homework when necessary :)

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching confidence in performance practices, technique, singing and playing, and good microphone habits for singing, speaking, recording, and songwriting. I teach based on student needs, and I find each student benefits from a different curriculum.

Francis is a fantastic teacher. He is patient, extremely knowledgeable, and fun to work with, a rare combination. I joined a friend’s rock band and needed to learn how to play the bass guitar fast. I had never even played guitar before. Francis taught me the basics and got me competent on the songs we were learning. He even helped me with my singing. I now do backup and even lead on a few songs. Francis had a music degree from UCSD and can make learning as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. He also teaches music at an alternative High School. He is very flexible and a very nice person to be around. I highly recommend Francis!

Beginner to Advanced guitar. This is my main instrument and this is my main focus for teaching. I have my own method and use books by Hal-Leonard for music reading.

About Judy
Greetings!
Thanks for checking out my lessons. My name is Judy aka Groovy Judy. I'm a guitarist, singer, songwriter and performer. I've been playing guitar for 35+ and teaching private and group lessons for 12 years. I also teach ukulele, beginning electric bass and songwriting. ***Please note - I'm located on the Peninsula, so the areas I serve are: Millbrae, Burlingame, Hillsborough, San Mateo, Belmont, San Carlos, Redwood City, Atherton & Menlo Park.***

I work with a lot of kids (as well as adults) and beginners. I'm extremely patient, and I enjoy getting brand new students up and running with proper techniques and good habits. My teaching style/philosophy is to get my students playing as soon as possible in an easy and fun way. I focus on basics such as tuning, rhythm, proper pick technique, strumming, reading guitar tab and/or sh
eet music, and playing songs. I tailor my lessons to the student so it's fun for both of us.

The styles I teach are: rock (classic, indie, punk) folk, pop, reggae/ska funk, blues, r&b, country, some finger-picking, and a bit of classical. I can teach you any song you want to play whether it's rap, rock hip-hop or a piano piece. I will find a way to do it and make it fun. :-)

My style is easy going, but not lackadaisical. I take teaching seriously and do my best to make the student feel comfortable. I give my students weekly assignments that I ask them to complete. However, if a student doesn't work on their assignment, I don't criticize or condemn them. I go over the assignment with them and gently remind them to play and work on the materials I've given.

I love teaching, music, and sharing my gifts with others.

Thanks and I look forward to working with you!
Cheers,
Judy G. aka Groovy Judy

I went into banjo lessons not knowing if I could master the instrument or not, being nearly 70 years old. While by no means a master (and never going to be), I have learned so much from Sam and he has shown such patience with me. I often leave my lessons wondering how he ever puts up with me - but he does. His encourgement, laid-back style, expertise and knowledge of music (plus theory) and the banjo is impressive. His good nature makes my lessons so much more pleasant. I would say Sam is a a great teacher for both a beginner or an accomplished musician or in between. He likes to talk and demonstrate (nice and slowly if requested) so I would recommend hour-long lessons at first.

Max has been on time every time. He has established a very good rapport with my 15 year old (!!!) son which results in my son doing the homework and not dreading the sessions. My son seems relieved to be understanding the Algebra II concepts that he missed during the past term. He also seems way more confident and in a much better mood as if solving this issue for school was weighing him down before. In addition Max is very pleasant, very polite so his presence is welcomed by the rest of the family. Thanks!!!

I am truly passionate about your success in becoming the best guitar player you choose to be! I like to teach with repetition (wax on wax off) and prefer to present the big picture first so that every obstacle may potentially never be an obstacle for you. I take years of teaching experience and what have been topics of frustration brought to me from students in the past... I try to smooth the road and teach you so you get the highest yield of success for your money with as little headaches as possible :) for example: I Begin with bar chords not folk chords. I would LOVE to have the opportunity to explain "WHY" and show you how great you can be in WAY less time than a traditionalist guitar teacher would get you...

About Gregory
Hey there! Greg here... I am VERY excited to help you get to your best potential through lots of flight hours as quickly as you like! I hope you'll pick me to help you avoid common set backs in your progress. I look forward to helping you be your best on your instrument!

Gregory is a cutting edge multi instrumental musician, accomplished on electric bass, upright pizzicato bass, electric and acoustic guitar, drums, and vocals.  He performs in a large variety of ensembles, combos, bands, and performs as a solo bassist.  Gregory recently joined Wylie and the Wild West and is loving every minute of it! He has helped thousands of private students step into a life of music since his first student in 1989.  Greg’s talent and ability have been recognized frequently. In 1994 he was one of ten finalists worldwide in Bass Player Magazine’s Billy
Sheehan scholarship contest, that same year he became a key volunteer staff member at the annual Bozeman Bass Bash.

Gregory has shared the bill and / or performed along side: Bob Babbitt, Victor Bailey, Jean Baudin, Jeff Berlin, Blondie, Suzy Bogguss, Brian Bromberg, Oteil Burbridge, Yves Carbone, Christopher “C3” Cardone, Anthony Cox, Billy Dickens, Emerson Drive, Foghat, Marc Grabowski, Wylie Gustafson, Carol Kaye, Geno Kreis, Rob Kohler, Michael Manring, Stewart Mckinsey, Darren Michaels, Brady Muckelroy, Vince Neil, Adam Nitti, Dave Pomeroy, Psycadelic Furs, Benny Reitveldt, Kelly Roberty, Rich Ross, Billy Sheehan, Russell Smith (of the Amazing Rhythm Aces), Norm Stockton, Randy Tico, Eddie Tsuru, Twisted Sister, Michael Tyrrell, Gerald Veasley, Trip Wamsley, Doug Wimbish And Neil Zaza.

I've been playing for 7 years. My style of teaching incorporates all styles. Along with teaching guitar, I also teach you of other instruments because I have found that the best way to learn guitar is to learn music in general. Bring as much as you can to the table so that you can create your own style. I also very much enjoy teaching concepts and technique through song. Usually songs of your choice. All music has something to show you.

About Jordan
I have been in a bands since I was 15. Been on stage loads of times. From rock punk backyard shows to family events and christmas parties. I've played personal events playing classical and jazz music. I've played with the RCC jazz ensemble. I've played guitar for marching. So I'm very familiar with different styles of playing and different enviroments. Also with plenty of musical personalities. My teaching style is based around helping you find your own musical direction and path. Helping you use music to create and express yourself and no one else.
