Rob is very knowledgable with regard to the cello--he and my 16 year old son hit it off immediately! He asked my son what he wanted to work on and then they spent the next 45 minutes working on those things. After the lesson, we worked out a continuing schedule of classes for the next few months. We are very happy with Rob as a tutor for my son and equally happy with TakeLessons!

Experienced cello teacher of 7 years! My lesson plan is simple : 1. we warm up with basic scales + finger exercises, 2. we focus on tone + proper technique, and 3. we play from a variety of solo pieces, duets, and ensemble music (I prepare backing tracks to help w/ rhythm and timing... or play the parts myself). If the student is working on music for school orchestra, we work on that as well.

The time devoted to each portion of the lesson is totally adjustable. You will learn what you want to learn at your own pace.

About Ryan
Experienced cello, drum, piano, and guitar player of 20 years. Has a MFA degree in music composition + a BFA in music performance. Recorded professionally for tv shows such as "Glee," "Entertainment Tonight," and "Extra." Also records for "Sonoton Recordings." Currently resides in Los Angeles, California. I could not ask for more in a teacher. Ryan is amazing in every way. He has been teaching my 4 year old son the drums for nearly a year. When my son started lessons, he was actually below the minimum age for students, but he shared a passion for music that Ryan was willing to cultivate and be patient with.

Ryan is versatile in his teaching methods, creative, open, patient. Teaching a young student, Ryan adjusted to teaching music reading fundamentals with colors and shapes. He also figured out ways to correct, critique and build all the while building a young child's confidence.

Ryan provides a written evaluation of our son annually and has him prepare for two public recitals a year. Ryan integrates modern technology into the lessons to quickly provide feedback and create customized beats and tempos to practice to.

Above all, Ryan smiles and laughs. He makes every lesson pleasant and we treasure him, truly.

I've been studying music my whole life. Extensive European study, 8 years in German conservatories, performing, studying, playing competitions in Germany and surrounding countries. Orchestral, chamber music, solo, I've studied closely with over a dozen high-level european cellists but I'm also good with kids, so whether you're looking to master your bow hold or have never even held one in the first place, I've got you covered.

About Marshall
Hi, I'm Marshall. I was born into a family of actors, artists, and musicians and was raised on the stage of the Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga, California, a family-run theater. I started music lessons at four on piano and later began cello at twelve. As a middle and high school student, I played with community orchestras throughout Los Angeles, and after graduation from the Hamilton Academy of Music, went on to study at Cal State University, Northridge, double majoring in cello and English literature. I afterwards moved to Germany for almost a decade, studying in Trossingen, Mannheim, and Berlin, resulting in a lot of great teachers, masterclasses and performance opportunities. After recently moving back to Los Angeles, I work as an assistant to a number of different Film/TV composers here in LA as well as playing orchestra and doing st
udio work whenever I can. It's about time for some cello lessons though, wouldn't you say?

I wanted to improve my piano skills (I'm an actor- it comes in handy). So far, I've had about ten lessons with Marshall at his studio in Topanga, and I'm already so much more confident. We started out reviewing what I knew- scales, arpeggios, etc, and now we are on to full pieces (Chopin, Mozart) and sight-reading skills. Marshall is AWESOME and has a great sense of humor. Super happy to have found him.

Marshall is such a delight! My ten-year-old son has been studying cello with Marshall for the last year and has no plans of stopping. I couldn't be happier with this find. Marshall is very nurturing but also sets clear strong goals, and my son now has a much more effective at-home practice strategy. Marshall's studio is also wonderful for me- it has an outdoor garden where I can sit and read or do work during my son's lesson.

Having 10 years of experienced cello teaching, I feel very comfortable helping my students understand the foundations of cello technique. I graduated with a Bachelors of Music from the music conservatory Cleveland Institute of Music, and got my Masters in Music from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music.

In addition, I completed a 2 year rigorous Suzuki Technique Pedagogy Program where I am now certified to teach all 10 levels of the cello books. I am confident in explaining any questions a student may have. I love to make practicing a game, so that way we are developing the proper skills but also challenging ourselves while having fun! Even I can understand that practicing can get tiresome and dull at times!

As a traveling musician who has performed all over the world, I feel it is important for students to appreciate all types of music. While classical training and technique are absolutely crucial to the beginning stages of a student's development, I like to show the ...

About Genevieve
I am a professional cellist, skilled in all solo, chamber, and orchestra settings. My playing has invited me into the top ranking music festivals in the world including Tanglewood Music Center, Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, and many others. These opportunities have led me to perform with the New York Philharmonic.

Growing up, I studied with a Philadelphia orchestra cellist who prepared me for conservatory auditions. After being accepted into all 7 universities and conservatories I applied to including the Juilliard School, I decided to go to the Cleveland Institute of Music where I got my Bachelors of Music in cello performance. I studied with the former principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra, and also with one of the best Suzuki pedagogues in the country. I, then, got a Masters in Music in cello performance
from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music. There, I studied with one of the most internationally renowned cello professors in the world who has shaped me into the musician I am today. In addition, I got my Suzuki Certification in all 10 levels of cello books after completing a 2 year year rigorous Suzuki pedagogy program.

In my second year at Northwestern, I won a fellowship, covering my full tuition and acceptance into The Civic Orchestra of Chicago. This is the apprentice orchestra under the Chicago Symphony. We worked with all the conductors that came in to play with the symphony. Yo Yo Ma, the most famous cellist of all time, is the creative consultant for the Civic Orchestra and we got to work with him 4 or 5 times a year.

I have traveled and performed with my string quartet ATLYS representing Lincoln Center in New York City. We have traveled around the world playing crossover music, where we play arrangements of pop, jazz, folk, traditional, rock, indie, alternative, rap, but always return to the forever-beautiful classical quartets, as well.

Because of this, I have learned to play extended techniques on the cello and learned different styles of playing, like Celtic gigs and reels and cool jazzy bass lines. I think this is a fun unique quality that I can add to a student's cello development when studying with me.

I arrange music for string quartet, too. I think it's important for my students to also learn some basic music theory as it can develop a student's understanding of music at a much deeper level. This can make a student appreciate how a piece is created and where a phrase needs tension or where it needs to be released. It's very important for their musicality.

Genevieve taught me the most I’ve ever learned about the cello in a mere two months. Through her I was able to move through an entire Suzuki book while also learning every scale (including chromatic) without using open strings. The techniques she taught me helped further my music that I still use today. Before studying with her I was fourth stand in my high school’s orchestra. By the end of the Summer I was able to achieve first chair and all of the offered solos.

My cello students are amazing! I teach all ages and all levels and have been teaching for over 20 years. I work hard to discover the best way to approach each student based on their current ability and learning style. I have started cellists and have seen them become incredible musicians...for their own enjoyment and for future development. I have also taken on students at an intermediate and advanced level and helped them achieve their goals for auditions and recitals. I enjoy training all of my students for orchestra, chamber music and solo playing.

About Robin
I am a classically trained performer and have plenty of pop music experience as well. I have studied with the some of the top cellists in the U.S. and Germany. Additionally, I have studied with leading pedagogy professors for my work with young children. I have taught private cello lessons for over 20 years and have infused all I have learned from my teachers into my teaching style. I enjoy discovering how each student learns best and work from their level.

I perform as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player and have experience teaching these styles of playing. I am a member of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra and a solo artist with Great Lakes Performing Artist Associates. I was recently named an "Emerging Artist of 2018" by the American League of Symphony Orchestras magazine. My performing gives me great insight into prep
aring students for auditions all other types of performing.

As a pop artist, I perform with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra string section and have shared a stage with Josh Groban, Sarah McLachlan and Michael Bublé. It has been with this experience that I am able to work with students on an array of musical styles.

As a musician who has taken private lessons from different teachers for over 12 years, I know the importance of having an organized, supportive, and positive teacher that does not overwhelm the student. Lessons will be structured based on specific aims and goals, with an overview of the previous week at the beginning of each lesson and goal-setting at the end of each lesson. It will be fun and engaging, and ultimately increase the student's interest and ability in playing cello!

About CLAIRE
I am a cellist who has been playing for almost 20 years of my life. I graduated from UC Irvine in 2014, and have had extensive experience as a soloist, in orchestra, and in chamber music. I competed as a soloist and with my piano trio and loved to play gigs with my quartet at different venues. I am currently assistant principal of the IVC Symphony Orchestra.

Learning classical music can be hard, and I have first-hand experience in feeling the frustrations and pressure of not improving. I believe the teacher makes a huge impact on whether the student continues to persevere through the struggles or gives up and loses their interest in the instrument. My experience studying under private music teachers for both cello and piano gives me a unique perspective on what works and what doesn't. I like to get to know the student and set goals toget
her so I know that we are on the same page on what we are hoping to achieve. My students can expect to not only improve week by week but also increase their love for the cello.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!

I'm a student currently studying cello performance at the Eastman School of Music. I've been playing cello for 9 years and have been doing student teaching for about 4 years. I focus on building up great technique in my students, but more importantly, I want to help my students feel more connected to the music they play, and ultimately use their technique to express themselves. The best teachers, for me, don't just teach you how to play the notes, but also how to find your own meaning in the music that you play- no matter the difficulty level of the piece you're playing!

I use the Suzuki method for most beginner/intermediate students, but I'm also sensitive to what the student wants. I'm a firm believer that the student should always enjoy what they are practicing! I want to build up healthy, solid technique in my students, but I encourage my students to find pieces they themselves are interested in! Practicing and learning the cello takes dedication- but it is a deeply gratifying ...

About Isaac
I am a very experienced classical cellist currently studying cello performance at Eastman, and I've been there for about 2 years now. As a student, my aim is to provide valuable, affordable lessons and teach my students everything they need to know in order to improve their musicianship.

Students can expect to improve their technique every single week, but there's something that's even more important to me as a teacher. I want my students to feel more connected to the music they play, and feel that they are using their technique in order to express themselves. That's the most gratifying part of music making, for me: finding your own meaning in the music you play.

As a cellist, I've been lucky enough to be apart of masterclasses with some very incredible cellists, including Paul Katz, David Geber, Julia Lichten and Norman Fischer. I've b
een principal cellist of the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra, and was very lucky to have been a part of Boston University Tanglewood Institute's Young Artists Orchestra in 2015, where I also served as one of the principal cellists. I've studied cello privately for 9 years with teachers including Ching-Jung Lee, Efe Baltacigil, and am currently studying with David Ying at the Eastman School of Music.

Practicing the cello is a commitment, but a deeply gratifying one. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your musical goals!
