I have been working with Photoshop for over 5 years. Getting started with this program is as easy as understanding layers. Once you understand the basics of Photoshop, we can move on to more functions and tools inside the program. You will learn about file sizes, image types, color correcting, and editing "tricks". Some of my students personal favorite lessons include "basic compositing", "spot color correction" and "changing the background". Once you have a solid understanding of the basic tools, you can start to explore; and let your creativity take you wherever you want. Had my first lesson last night to learn about night photography. I bought myself a fancy camera (Sony A7R4) and I had no idea how to use it or what any of the buttons did other than turning it on and having it set to auto. I didn’t know the first thing about photography other than point and shoot. Irina immediately had me change my camera to manual and told me to not use auto. I loved that! Irina also told me the lesson was going to be a lot of information for a beginner such as myself wanting to learn about my photography first. Yes, it was a lot to take in but, I can say that I left my lesson with Irina feeling way more confident about how to use my camera properly and I can’t wait to have additional lessons to learn more. Now I know the 3 basic settings of Shutter, Aperture and ISO and how they affect your shots and Irina even put together a booklet for me that explains the basics of photography that includes the need to know information on how to change settings depending on photography location, lighting time of day, desired effects etc. Fantastic job Irina and I can’t wait to learn more with additional lessons.

"I used Aperture for years to adjust my photos, but when Apple stopped supporting it, I subscribed to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC. LR is comparable to Aperture, but neither does a good job of fixing a blown out sky; PS offers several methods of dealing with this problem, none of them particularly simple. PS is a complex, daunting professional tool and I was stymied and discouraged. Nick taught me how to use PS to solve my problem and gave me confidence that I could, with study and practice, learn how to use PS to solve other problems. The important thing is that Nick listened to me as to my goal and directed his teaching to that goal. He showed enormous patience as I interrupted him with questions every 20 seconds. To sum up: it's unrealistic to try to learn PS in three hours. I needed specific knowledge to get over a difficult hurdle, and Nick taught me what I needed to use PS to solve my problem. I believe that I can now go forward to do a much better job adjusting and developing my photos, and that I have a better grasp on how to learn more about PS. Thank you, Nick."
