As a professional singer/performer with 15+ years experience, I love infusing a mix of musical concepts and traditional teaching styles with real world experience I've gained from performing over the years. We'll start each lesson with warm ups tailored to not only open up the voice, but practice technique and prepare you for your song. Then, we'll move into your song(s), working on technique and/or any trouble spots and ultimately sculpting the song in a way that also supports more freedom and control in your singing. Whether you're interested in pop, rock, R&B, standards, or Broadway, I love to tailor lessons to meet your needs and to bring out the artist within you!

"My 11 year old worked once 45 minutes weekly with Candid for approximately 5 weeks practicing a couple English songs she was familiar with and two Portuguese songs that were new to her (she does not speak Portuguese). It was incredibly rewarding to witness her skills develop in such a short period, as well as her self-confidence and self image. She is half Brazilian, and she was so proud to relate with her Papai—Daddy—in his language. I also had the pleasure to virtually attend an online concert of Candid’s adult and younger students. Her rapport was beautiful with the patchwork of her student body—an eclectic group whose skills filled the spectrum, but whose passion burned bright as one. I highly recommend Candid as a teacher. I will note that she did classes online, and I encouraged practice between classes. She did not solely rely on the weekly classes as a means for learning and improvement. Her skills improved steadily over the five weeks with the guidance and careful coaching of Candid’s classes. Practice between classes was essential to make the most out of all Candid has to offer."

"First, I had some previous singing lesson but did not really get to sing properly and my throat was always straining. Benjamin took me from the basic with breathing and how to correctly lean on the air. It took a little time, and now i feel so comfortable when I sing. My vocal resonance and control has really improved. I do not sing with my throat no more, I feel effortless and I control my intercoastal muscles very well. Benjamin is really Great, Patient and Understanding instructor. He has made to start loving and accepting my voice.
I strongly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn the freedom of singing and how good it feels to sing your favorite songs at ease."

"So glad I decided to take lessons with Rebecca

I had never taken a singing lesson before, so was nervous about what I was getting myself into. From the first minute of the first lesson, Rebecca had already put me at ease, and now my lesson is the favorite part of my week. Rebecca is a gifted singer and a natural teacher. She works with students as individuals, helping them achieve their specific goals in a way that works best for them--no matter what their age or experience/ability level. I am probably one of her older students (41 years) and I have seen her interact with students as young as 6 or 7, and she is great with everyone. A real pro. She is smart, insightful, patient (very!), and has a knack for communicating ideas and helping me make the connections that lead to progress. I have been able to do things with my voice and improve my singing in a way I never thought I could. I have continued to make breakthroughs after 10 months of lessons, and the reason is Rebecca's ability to create a structured but relaxed environment in which I feel comfortable and focused, and inspired to improve. If you are thinking about taking singing lessons--whether for the first time or to hone your professional skills--I would highly, highly recommend Rebecca."

"I have been taking singing lessons with Madeline for a while now, and I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher! Her personality can make anyone feel welcome. I am very shy but she manages to get me out of my shell. I have definitely felt that my confidence has improved tremendously since I started my lessons. Madeline is also extremely talented, patient, flexible, and helpful. She can very easily explain a concept or a technique by creating an image in your head, which I find immensely useful.

I have recommended her to all my friends that are interested in taking singing lessons and plan on continue to do so, because she really is a great teacher! I am very thankful to her and always look forward to my next lesson 😊"

Is it Possible to Sing Well Without Taking Lessons?

If you're wondering how to sing well without lessons, you'll want to check out this guest post. Here, Washington, DC voice teacher Jacqueline E. shares her thoughts... Is it possible to sing well without taking voice lessons? In a nutshell, my answer to this is a firm “no.” So, what does it look like for someone who genuinely wants to learn how to sing well, but can’t take lessons, for whatever reason, and just commits to self-teaching through various methods? Strategies for Sight Singing

It may seem like instrumentalists have it much easier when it comes to sight reading music; by simply pressing a key or a string, the notes are immediately available to them without any additional thought, and all that’s left to them is to work out duration, dynamics, and tempo. Singers, on the other hand, don't have an instrument to rely on. Taking a song previously unknown to you and delivering a reasonably accurate performance the very first run-through isn’t a talent that everybody ha …

The Sing Off is in full swing now, with eight talented a cappella groups remaining in the competition after this week's episode.  The show, which is in its third season, features a cappella groups from around the U.S., performing each week in hopes of continuing on to get the grand prize of a Sony Music recording contract and $200,000.
