I had Kathryn as a viola teacher for just under a year and half, coming from a music background in percussion but having no experience with string instruments. She was very good at introducing me to techniques as I developed, and I enjoyed her teaching style particularly where we'd mix things up by sight-reading duets to help with both sight-reading and my ear training. Unfortunately she had to move away!

I went into banjo lessons not knowing if I could master the instrument or not, being nearly 70 years old. While by no means a master (and never going to be), I have learned so much from Sam and he has shown such patience with me. I often leave my lessons wondering how he ever puts up with me - but he does. His encourgement, laid-back style, expertise and knowledge of music (plus theory) and the banjo is impressive. His good nature makes my lessons so much more pleasant. I would say Sam is a a great teacher for both a beginner or an accomplished musician or in between. He likes to talk and demonstrate (nice and slowly if requested) so I would recommend hour-long lessons at first.

I began privately instructing students while I was still in high school. Thirty years later, my studio teaching experience continues to instill a passion for music and students that are performing in their own venues in school and the community. Knowing that the time I have with each person is leading them to grow and share their own abilities with others is truly the heart of where I think musical instruction should lead.

About Kendra
Hello. My name is Kendra and I have been performing and teaching professionally for over 25 years. Utilizing the Suzuki curriculum and supplemental methods, I like to provide a solid technical foundation as well as tailor each lesson to my students' personal musical interests and goals including classical, Irish and Bluegrass fiddle styles, jazz, blues, and popular music.

I have also recorded non-classically on albums with music groups such as Port Arthur, Chet Williams, and Benjamin Poole.

I have taught high school marching bands for the past three years and am currently Hornline Director of Ridley High School's marching band. I have also been studying German since a very young age and studied abroad in Germany in college. I earned a minor in German and am a member of the national German honor society, Delta Phi Alpha.

Students can expect a passionate, caring teacher who will work to help them achieve their violin goals. My goal is introduce students to the joy that a violin can bring and inspire a lifetime love.

About Lisa C.
After playing the violin for over 20 years, Lisa was inspired to share the gift of music with others by her teacher, Susanna Sonnenberg. Lisa is a member of the American String Teacher’s Association, and has attended the 2017 ASTA National Conference. She currently performs with the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra. Lisa has played in recitals, the Chartiers Valley High School Orchestra, and was accepted to the 2006 PMEA District Orchestra. She has studied with Larry Weiss, Linda Andersen, and others. Lisa can’t remember a time before she learned how to play the violin; it has brought her great joy. Her favorite piece to play is the Bach Double Concerto in D Minor.

At 8 years old, Lisa fell in love with the violin. Throughout school, she studied with private teachers and played with the school orchestra. At home, her dogs were a great audie
nce.

Lisa went on to study history at the University of Pittsburgh, and later earned her law degree from Duquesne. She never forgot her violin, though, and continued to play in her spare time.

Music adds beauty to the world, and finally, after years of keeping the violin to herself, Lisa decided to share her playing with others. Lisa teaches traditional, classical method. The method books she uses include: Essential Elements for Strings, Samuel Applebaum, and All for Strings, among others. She supplements the technical exercises with repertoire from the Suzuki series. Lisa enjoys playing all types of music, in addition to classical, and teaches these songs, as well. Additional music includes pop artists like Taylor Swift, classic rock, electronic music like Lindsey Stirling, celtic, folk, and just about any other type of music you can think of. As a teacher, Lisa strives to be positive and encouraging. She believes that music should be fun, so her main goal is to make sure her students are having a good time!
