Private Acoustic Guitar Teacher

Teaching for over 24 years; owner of my own music store/studio for past 14 years.

Teaching beginner - advanced from age 5 to 70+.

I typically use the 21st Century Guitar method book with audio CD and I supplement the text with write-ins or handouts/worksheets as applied to the student's needs and questions. I try to get students playing chords as soon as possible; usually stating with open position power-chords and one or two finger open position chords.

I do flatpicking and fingerstyle ( with or without picks) and encourage students to try both. I try to get the student to sing and play - don't be bashful...I try to have fun with students.

I will help you learn to create chord progressions and write a chord chart and maybe a melody for your first songwriting experience. Usually we will do this using power -chords for beginners or what ever chords the student can handle.

I can train you how to learn songs by ear from recordings once you have some basic abilities.

Alongside the general guitar techniques and methods, I like to focus on the aspects that are important to acoustic specifically, such as chord voicings, alternate tunings, fingerstyle, and hybrid picking

About Christian

My name is Christian L. and I am a 29 year old guitar/music instructor in the Orlando area. My interest in guitar began when I was 12 years old and blossomed into a full time obsession about 3 years later when I started playing small gigs as a solo guitarist playing simple jazz and classical pieces

Christian is not only a talented musician, but he is also a true guitar teacher. So far, I have taken 4 classes and I've learned more with his methods than any other way. I've had tried from the Fender Play app, YouTube videos, to other instructors, but nothing compares to his teachings. He is patient and truly pays attention to what I am struggling with. He breaks everything down piece by piece. If one way doesn't work, he tries a different way until I understand. As mentioned before, he is a gifted teacher. One thing is to be a great guitar player who teaches how to play a few chords, and another is to be a great guitar player who puts him/herself in the student's shoes and help them progress with each lesson. He is one of a kind. Thanks, Christian!

Lessons with Christian have been very informative and fun. He is not only a talented player, but knowledgeable regarding music theory. Most importantly, he has the ability to teach and communicate concepts and and content in practical ways that are beneficial to the student.
He has been proactive, supportive and will go beyond time constraint in order to take advantage of the moment and accomplish the goal of each lesson.
So far, a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!

Online Acoustic Guitar Teacher

Many students start on an acoustic guitar rather than an electric. I did, as a matter of fact. Acoustic guitars can be tricky if the student doesn’t have one that is the proper fit for them. My first goal with acoustic students is to make sure they are comfortable with their instrument, and that they can get the best sound out of it without using too much energy.
I find that many acoustic students turn out to be great at playing and singing after just a few months. Some of my youngest students have even composed their own music.

About David

My name is David and I'm a professional musician who just moved to North Austin. I came from Cincinnati, where I went to the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, taught dozens of students at all levels and played regular gigs every weekend. David is the best and the sweetest piano teacher we have ever have. He is so patient, kind, caring and creative in his teaching method.

My 5 year old has a little autism symptom so she's very easy to get distracted. Yet we have great fun time in every class with him. His class worth 20 min driving there and 20 min driving back, using toll road!

David has been so amazing with out 9 year old daughter. We have gone to him for over 2 years and she has come so far with her skills! He has so much patience. He's so kind and wonderful with kids. We were recommended by a friend and now we recommend him! He's high in demand for sure! We are sad we can't use him anymore due to scheduling issues. His prices are better than others too!

Quickly contextualized my needs as a student, and got me familiar with components and techniques of composition. The goal was to be able to help me more easily communicate ideas and designs to audio engineers at a company I work at. There has been a very observable benefit to this in the expedience of discussions, and fidelity of concept being engineered.

"I used to play drums, but since I live in a small studio apartment, I had to give it up for a while. I decided to take guitar lessons as a replacement. I did some research online for teachers and based on the reviews and videos, I decided to contact Jimmy.

I knew nothing about guitar, music theory, scales, chords, etc...nothing! I was nervous and overwhelmed about learning and studying it all. I've been taking lessons for about three months now and within the first month, I was already learning scales and chords. Jimmy's structure is very efficient and thorough and tries to make the learning process easier for his students to understand.

As a person, Jimmy is cool, laid back and very down to earth. He's very flexible if you need to re-schedule a lesson. He's always available by phone/text or email if you have any questions or if you're stuck trying to figure something out. The stuff he teaches and the advice he gives will definitely help you apply it for when you perform or jam with other musicians. A quote he repeatedly says has stuck to me: "It's not about practice, practice, practice...it's about WHAT you practice." And it's true. Jimmy will teach you how to be a trained musician, not just an average guitar player.

Even though it's only been three months, I've learned so much! I really look forward to where I'll be in the next few months/years. He's also giving me the opportunity to get back into drumming! I'm very glad I decided to take lessons with Jimmy!"

"I have no idea what I'm getting into when I first register for the class. Mrs. Hanaa was one of the instructor that have great reviews and a good price rate. Everyone who have reviewed her probably mention how closely she work with her student and how she allow them to learn in their own pace. I totally agree and she also provide a great atmosphere that allow the student excited to learn. If other review does not convince you to choose her, I hope this one will."

The Do's And Don'ts Of Buying The Best Beginner Acoustic Guitar
