Piano was the instrument I ran to when I was tired of classical guitar in college. As a consequence, I develop a very special relationship with it. I've learned to use it as a vehicle for expressing music in a way that's more free than any instrument that I do. Things I teach on piano usually include...

-Basic technique: scale fingerings, finger mechanics, dynamic posture
-Music Learning: how the piano makes music easier than with any other instrument, and what is the most efficient way to learn music
-Improvisation: how to explore music freely using easy keyboard techniques
-Composition: how to find and discipline your creativity through exploratory piano exercises

About Jonathan
I studied music therapy and music theory at Temple University from '06-'10. Learned a lot. Then again, I learned even more teaching at a school for kids with learning disabilities and working as a traveling street performer. Once you see the world and work with some unexpected challenges, you learn how to open up and knuckle down at the same time!

I am currently a full-time YouTube Creator, sidelining in cover bands and a solo act. Teaching is a big part of what I do online so I see my work as a private teacher as 'research' for the lessons I create. Although I'm firmly grounded in a classical music training, there's nothing you can ask about that I won't try to figure out. My favorite thing about teaching is using unexpected questions to develop new ideas that I then integrate into my original compositions. Check out my intro to the B
lues Raga video if you want to hear a good story about what I mean.

Recently I've had several articles published by the TakeLessons Blog. Check out my most recent post here.

Jonathan has been a great teacher and excellent influence for Noah. During lessons, and in his practice during the week, Noah is being drawn in by both the challenges and rewards of learning to love and play the violin.

Great lesson today! Johnathon is really good with young kids. We started with learning structured notes, and then he let my son improvise. It was magical. I'm happy to see how Johnathon makes the lesson interaction so much fun!

I'm flexible with my teaching style and can help you attain your goals.

About Vitaly
I’m a Theatre Major from UCSD. I've studied music since my early teens, and have played and performed for over a decade. I love music, and I love creating art. If you’re looking for a by the book instructor (here follow the instructions in your music book) I’m probably not a good fit. Music is fun and should be taught that way. But that does not mean you shouldn’t learn the foundation of good technique and how to master those skills. I enjoy teaching as much as I do playing or performing. That is why I do it. I have been taking piano lessons from Paula for close to 10 years, and it has been great experience. I have learned to play a variety of music from rock to classical. Some qualities I like about Paula is that she is patient, and she will challenge and encourage you. We have played various venues in Knoxville, but my favorite is the Fantasy of Trees. It is a great way to support Children's Hospital. Young or old, I highly recommend Paula for anyone wanting to learn piano.

Upon re-locating to the area, we were referred to Paula Johnson for our daughter's continuing lessons. We were fortunate to have four years with Paula before our daughter left for college. During that time, our daughter was challenged in all genre's of music and excelled under Paula's excellent tutelage. Her instruction in theory and practical application instilled skills in our daughter that she has taken with her into her adult life and will enjoy in the future.

My daughter has been taking piano lessons from Paula for over 4 years, she started when she was just 9 and knew next to nothing about music. Paula is great teacher, very patient and has provided lots of different music options (Disney movie theme songs, Classical, Jazz and Christmas classics) which has helped to keep my daughter interested in continuing to play.

Students can expect to learn how to play their favorite songs, as well as scales and basic theory of the piano.

About Kaitlin
I have been playing guitar for almost ten years, piano for three years, and singing for most of my life (with vocal training for six years). I want students to learn at their own pace while motivating them to progress with each lesson. Students are welcome to request certain genres and songs to learn. I am open to teaching any genre as well as the theory aspect, necessary to truly understand the instruments. The ultimate goal is to provide students with the musical knowledge they request, while having fun!

I am a teacher with a rich background in music education. Having studied in Moscow, Russia during the "Golden Era" of music in both performing and teaching aspect I have learned from some of the best pianists and pedagogues. My students have won numerous international competitions, went on to study in conservatories around the country and have performed on many prestigious stages around the world.
However, besides working with pianists who are serious about music, I also enjoy teaching adults and children of all ages and experience. I have always found it rewarding to watch a student grow from learning the piano keys to playing their first Sonata years later. Many of my students started in kindergarten and stayed with me until college.
By choosing me as your teacher, you will get to play exciting repertoire and get to reach all of your musical goals!

About Elena
Born and raised in Moscow, Russia, I started studying piano at the age of 5 at a specialty music school. I attended the prestigious Gnessin Academy where I earned my Bachelor and Masters Degrees. I have performed on various stages around Russia before I decided that I loved to teach. Over the next 15 years I taught in several schools in the Moscow area, teaching piano and music classes to children and adults after which I started a studio of my own.

I fell in love with Piano when I started learning Music Production/Technology and Theory and seeing how every facet of music can be related or learned through piano. I thought, "Wow! I can actually start writing and recording my own songs and make whatever sounds I like!" So, I became a music producer working with East Coast Records/Wondaland Records and my own personal records. I don't have a fancy college degree, but I am an actual professional musician where I currently perform as a House Musician at Gallery 992 on Sundays. I teach at an understandable/human to human level. I don't create unrealistic expectations and I am always learning new teaching techniques as well as playing techniques and music period. The philosophy is that I teach you because I can learn from you. I am an open mind with no egos attached. I will show you that with patience and self-care, music can be easy to learn and very rewarding for those who are artists or just want to learn piano to relieve stress or ...

About Erik
I'm lead vocalist, lead guitarist & songwriter for a jazz/future soul band that is currently the house band for Gallery 992. I graduated from Clayton County Fine Arts Magnet High School, and am currently teaching lessons to students ranging in ability from beginner to intermediate. My experience and training makes learning the beauty of music fun and exciting.

Currently, I run a studio producing for other artists' creative projects, play for an active jazz band and am a songwriter under BMI. I spend much of my time writing and recording for my projects and other artists. My songs have been featured on short films and artist EPs.

I teach students in my home teaching studio in Atlanta,Georgia where we can vibe out and build with each other. I work with guitarists, pianists, horn players, producers, songwriters, engineers, singers and r
appers with different skills and different goals.

I regularly teach: Jazz, Alternative, Rock, Soul, R&B, Blues, Hip-Hop, Pop, Indie Rock and Funk
