Learn to let your character shine on stage or screen! Through improvisation, script analysis and the study of monologue materials, students are introduced to the fundamentals of performance. Special emphasis is placed on exploration of characterization, motivation, and transition. Elements of Alexander Technique will be introduced to help students gain a kinesthetic awareness of self.

Students are able to tailor their lessons to their chosen acting field. If stage acting is the area of study, lessons will focus on proper stage presence, projection, and elements of theatrical acting. If film acting is the area of focus, students will learn to manage micro expressions, the importance of minute changes in body and posture, and hone the ability to "do it exactly the same", and essential skill for film actors.

I have been teaching and coaching actors for 20 years. My students work professionally on stage, TV and film. Within the first few lessons, you will understand how to create a character. Soon, you will have the skills to book a role. I specialize in method acting, but draw upon my experience at The Second City (improvisation) in Chicago and other training I have had. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels; I can't wait to meet you!

About Jeremy
Are you working on a part for a play or film and need assistance? If you are new to acting, I can teach you what it takes to be an actor and how to bring a character to life. Do you need to prepare for an audition? Do you want to learn about the business of acting? Script analysis? I can help.

I can help with your audition for performing arts high schools in NYC. My students have gotten into the schools of their choice.

If you have training or are a working actor, I can help take you to the next level.

I am a working actor, published playwright and award winning filmmaker. I graduated from the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where I majored in drama. Currently, I am faculty member at Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York. I teach Method Acting, Acting for Camera, Improvi
sation as well as other classes. My students, both at the Institute and from private coaching, have appeared in independent stage and film productions, TV shows, commercials and Hollywood films.

Acting is the art of bringing a character to life. I use the Lee Strasberg Method, my original exercises and a fun and serious demeanor to help actors express themselves as artists and gain the confidence and skills they need in order to book acting jobs.

My book, "The Young Actor's Handbook", is published by Applause Theatre and Cinema Books. "The Young Actor's Handbook" ignites the beginning actor's creative soul with acting exercises, acting theory, writing exercises and insight into what it means to be an actor. This is a pragmatic manual that guides and informs the young actor, beginning actor, novice acting teacher or anyone who wants to understand acting.

"Jeremy Kruse's book, "The Young Actor’s Handbook", leads the young actor on the correct path. Jeremy is an experienced acting teacher who has broken down acting in an academic way while nurturing the soul of the actor. He understands the emotional aspects of good acting. I commend Jeremy and believe he has accomplished quite a feat in writing "The Young Actors Handbook." - Vincent D'Onofrio

Acting is all about bringing your personal experiences to the character. I work in-depth with students on finding specific, personal, and important choices to make as a character and using their vocal range and tonality to influence their characters. In addition to this deeper work, I also work to give students the fundamentals; vocabulary, tactics, intention, performer etiquette. These classes are for students 13-30. (Some younger performers may want to begin in my child acting courses and build up to these.)

About Joy
My name is Joy Weir and I have been involved in theatre and acting for the last decade. I have been teaching acting and theatrical skills to children as well as coaching friends and colleagues for even longer. I am available for group classes as well, please contact me for info and rates.

As a teaching artist for children I have worked with Yes! And... Collaborative Arts, ASAP Drama, Rehoboth Summer Children's Theatre, Theatre Horizon, White Pines Productions, and I even began my own curriculum at the Lansdowne YMCA. I have worked with children ages 4-18 in various classes, workshops, and performances.

I worked with Joy during her directed production of "dtf" as a part of Drexel University's Director's Lab performance during fall of 2016. Joy was an absolute blast to work with and was extremely encouraging during the course of our rehearsals leading up to the performance. She really helped my scene partner and I to explore our characters on a much deeper level than what was proactively displayed on stage. I felt that it helped me immensely as an actor during the show as I felt much more comfortable in my position on stage and more "in-tune" with my character. Joy is a wonderful director who puts in maximum effort for directing and takes a personal and effective approach to actor preparation for her productions!

Joy is an incredible instructor with an amazing eye. She's creative and teaches in a way I understand. Not only this, she helped my confidence and gave me skills I couldn't get elsewhere.

Joy helped me prepare monologues countless times. She had a really great sense of getting right to the meat of things. " why is your character doing this..?", " who are they talking to?" " what's the subtext?" " what is the underlying need?" These are all questions she's helped me sort out. She's also great at telling you what is playing/working/reading in terms of actor choices. Love her!

As a former director, casting director and teacher, my work with students includes Stanislavski based training, audition coaching, coaching for university admission, basic acting skill both on camera and off, acting in commercials, Shakespeare and the" Biz".

I am known for my ability to diagnose and solve an actor's problems quickly, to see where an actor's talent lies, and for my straightforward approach to instruction.

I have been teaching acting for thirty years privately as well as at acting schools and conservatories. I founded Acting Studio Chicago, headed the acting program at Louisiana State University, and recently retired as an Associate Professor of Acting at The Theatre School Conservatory at Depaul University in Chicago. My mentor was MIchael Shurtleff, author of the book Audition and I have been teaching all forms of audition methods both on camera and off for many years. I have also been a casting director, member of CSA which honored me with an award for casting

About Jane
My passion is teaching acting!

My mission is to help actors learn and grow, especially those who weren't given lots of help. I myself had few financial advantages, and little help or encouragement from my family. I am not particularly good looking nor was I not able to attend one of the prestigious universities or acting schools.

However, At the age of 20, I began making my living as an actress and as a singer.I am now a long time member of AEA and SAG/AFTRA.

My success came from hard work, determination, and talent. My drive to work as an actress never included fame, I simply wanted to act anywhere and anytime.
I struggled for many years to find a teacher or a method that would help me develop my talent and finally found one in Michael Shurtleff, author of the book, Audition. I worked with Michael for two years and became
his assistant. He inspired me to become a teacher, and I stopped acting because it no longer was as exciting to me as teaching and directing.

Now I teach workshops all over the country, do lots of skype and facetime coaching, and guest teach at universities. My dream of reaching lots of actors has come true and for that I am grateful.

In July 2017 I attended Jane's Fresh Faces for Film group session and from the moment she began the class I was taken aback by the depth and realism she brings to the art of acting. I knew I had come across an incredibly important person in my life; akin to the handful of teacher's in my youth that left an indelible mark on me. You quickly realize the experience and knowledge that she has established over her long career are immensely engaging and enriching. If you are willing to give in, she will take you down a path whereby you will learn not only acting but also something new about yourself. I am the sponge to her rain and extraordinarily privileged that our path's have crossed. I look forward to our next session.
