Acoustic guitar is one of my specialties. I have extensive experience covering all genres of acoustic guitar playing, from bluegrass to finger-style country blues, folk, jazz, travis picking, etc.

About Scott
"a masterful guitarist -- really, a total whiz of a rare order."
--Hudson Valley Almanac Weekly

"a force to be reckoned with... sophisticated chord voicings, complex fingerpicking patterns, and a flurry of blues, jazz, and folk-inflected riffs performed with a ringing acoustic tone and an undeniable rhythmic drive."
--Wired.com

Scott is an internationally touring guitarist and songwriter based in Philadelphia. In addition to his work as an in-demand sideman for various artists and bands around the country, Scott is also an accomplished bandleader and composer with four acclaimed releases under his belt over the last ten years.

As a guitarist, Scott brings a modern, technical approach to traditional American styles - jazz, bluegrass, country blues, western swing and chick'n pick'n country guitar - but as a songwriter, he gravi
tates toward straightforward rock, blues, and folk.

Scott's guitar playing and songwriting has landed him features from American Songwriter, CMT, and more. He holds a BFA in Studio/Composition, with a minor in Jazz Performance, from SUNY Purchase in Purchase, NY.

Scott is currently on faculty in the Music Industry department at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ.

*** Lesson Details ***

When studying with Scott, students can expect a comfortable and fun atmosphere that promotes experimentation and positive reinforcement. Employing a curriculum that is equal parts formal technique and informal playing of the student's favorite music, Scott makes every lesson engaging and exciting for his students.

After 3 to 6 months studying with Scott, beginners should expect to be able to play many of their favorite songs, have a firm grasp on basic scales, chords, theory and sight reading, and can even begin writing their own songs and improvising solos!

If you're already an intermediate/advanced player, Scott will push you to find your unique voice on the guitar and tap into advanced techniques and approaches that will help you fully realize all that the guitar has to offer.

Lessons are tailored to each individual student's particular interests and abilities. Wherever you want to take your guitar playing, Scott will get you there and beyond!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will bring an acoustic guitar with me. My student must only have a guitar of their own of any kind. If it's electric, an amp is preferable, but not necessary.

*** Specialties ***
Music, Guitar, Bass, Theory, Song Writing, Composition, Improvisation, Sight Reading, Advanced Harmonic and Rhythmic Concepts, Group Playing
I am schooled in Jazz, but have a passion for all styles, including rock, blues, country, funk, folk, punk, and world music.

Scott is not only an amazing guitarist, but he is a superb teacher. Kind, supportive, and has an uncanny ability to break-down difficult pickings and strums into understandable and easy to follow directions. Most importantly, very patient. I was self-taught in the 70s when everyone picked up a guitar, stopped as an adult and am now re-starting it again after 30 years-and enjoying every moment. Scott is able to teach any type of music or song and intuitively understands and teaches the guitar style that the student would like to learn. Any student who studies with Scott should consider themselves fortunate. Not only does he know his stuff, he is passionate about music and passing on this musical knowledge to his students.

Adam’s superpowers as a guitar teacher are commitment and a calm demeanor. It was clear from my first lesson that Adam was singularly dedicated to my advancement even at times when my dedication wavered. I was able to successfully learn a Death Can for Cutie song that I had loved for years (I will follow you into the dark). Though i had taken lessons in the past, i felt i had the most chemistry with Adam’s thoughtful approach to teaching guitar. Our lessons were fun and laced with lighthearted humor. I moved to NYC and Adam was 100% committed to ensuring our lessons continued via Skype. Unfortunately the move was a big life change that refocused my priorities. I wish that Adam lived in NY so we could continue playing together!

If you're looking for lessons in Acoustic Guitar, then you've come to the right place. I will teach elementary guitar with a great emphasis on theory and applied methods. My background includes piano lessons that I received as a youngster, and guitar lessons held at various places after that.

About Larry
First off, I want to mention something that potential Philadelphian students should be aware of. I can only go to certain sections of the city, and I can only give you lessons on weekday afternoons between 12-2pm. Sorry, no evening classes. I'll need time to travel between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Actually, I prefer students in South Jersey. Those students can have lessons in my available time frame.

Now, a little about myself.
Are you looking for a great tutor? I'm the one you've been looking for.

I've had more than 3 years of tutoring experience in the following subjects:

* Computers (Java, general topics, C++, C, HTML, application programming, and others)
* Math (from elementary math to algebra)
* Piano (from basic to more advanced)
* Guitar (from theory to more advanced)

I've had favorable reviews from my former
clients, and I'll have competitive low rates as well. What are you waiting for?

Anything and everything guitar is my specialty. Electric or acoustic welcome. We will cover the parts of the instrument and why everything is so darn important (like how to stay in tune!).

If you plug your guitar in, we can perfect your guitar's signal flow, pedals, and amplifier settings, too!

I cover all kinds of styles, from simple note and scale picking and open chords, to pop/rock/punk/metal/blues/jazz and more.

Want to learn basic rhythm? lead? fast strumming? how about making those big chords without making your hands hurt? I can help! You'll be jamming along with your favorite songs and with friends in no time.

I typically will teach and write guitar using tablature instead of standard sheet music. These are a simple set of lines and numbers that are much easier to read, and once learned will instantly give you access to thousands of songs.

Also I can show you how to play with a capo or slide, fingerstyle or pick. If you want to learn grunge or sing ...

About Nathan
Hello!

My name is Nathan, but you can also call me Nate or Nay.
I have played guitar, bass, and drums for over twenty years.
I also sing, play piano, and play several wind instruments.

I compose music, and I have been involved in numerous live performance bands and recording studio projects.

I am an ASCAP songwriter with a history of working part-time for an independent A&R company, and have a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies with a minor in web technology from West Chester University of Pennsylvania.

I studied music theory, composition, and technology in school, and continue to during my spare time. I have had a few years of guitar lessons under several teachers, including several months of classical guitar training with sight reading.

I am primarily involved in rock, pop, and heavy metal, but have exper
ience in many other genres.
I listen to and play all kinds of music!
Anything my students listen to or want to learn is fine by me!
Classical, soul, country, jazz, electronic, dance, etc...
I believe there's much to learn in all of them!

I've been giving private lessons since 2014. Before that I would teach bandmates and friends how to play songs (both original songs and covers), as well as instructing various techniques on instruments.

I do my best to demonstrate proper technique and posture to help eliminate bad habits that lead to discomfort and potential injury. Let's get you comfortable, you'll enjoy your instrument much more!

I have even shown tricks and tips to persons that have played for decades more than myself, wishing they knew the correct way at first to prevent surgeries and rehabilitation.

I will gladly help you maintain your instrument and can do repairs to almost anything regarding drums/guitar/bass, saving you money from costly repair shops!

If you are interested in recording, I can demonstrate how to use various programs to both record and edit songs, then how to mix and master them. I can teach you how to get a "recording musician" mindset, and how to work and perform in a studio environment.

I'll also give tips on playing on stage, working from local gigs all the way to the professional level.

I enjoy teaching in a way to help other players love their instruments. I believe the first goal is to give it your own voice, and then continue to gain the expressive means to make it an extension of your mind and body. I will encourage you to grow your roots as you see fit.

If you stay interested, the instrument will grow with you, and continue to be a companion as long as you come back to it.

There's no embarrassment in being coached how to crawl, fall, and then walk before learning how to run.
Your goals will be self-discipline, resisting hesitation, and finding the will to tread the paths to improvement.

However, you ultimately need to have fun to stay on path! I tend to laugh a lot when I teach and encourage you to do so as well. Laughing relieves our daily stress and associates positive attitude towards your instrument.
We all make countless mistakes every day, but playing a wrong note should just feel silly, not bring you anger or frustration.

If you become flustered at a song, it's probably not important to flawlessly master it this minute.
So unless you have a gig or recital, we can come back another time!

I have a resume available. You can also request a sample outline/lesson plan in regards to your skill and instrument.

Thanks for reading, hope to hear from you soon!
-Nathan

I’m an adult learner and could not be more pleased with Nate as a teacher. His energy, talent, knowledge of all kinds of music and easy going, relaxed personality has made lessons fun and without stress. Nate prepares and goes out of his way to research and find things for me to learn and work on. He is able to come up with things on the fly that can benefit you while in the lesson. He communicates very well, and explains more complex things in a way you can understand them and if not…he’s very easy to talk to and I don’t’ feel embarrassed to as those “stupid” questions. He is able to help me with any kind of music whether it be the blues, country, rock and roll or heavy metal. With all that said, I would highly recommend Nate as a teacher for guitar for all ages.

I have taken instrument lessons in the past, but never for guitar, which I have been teaching myself for many years. I’m glad I came across Nathan because he seems to be able to answer all of my questions that I had stocked up. We began with a lesson about the history of tuning frequencies because I mentioned I was interested in that. An hour flew by as we went over everything from the fundamentals to learning certain scales and theory that will help me in the music that I tend to play.
Nathan is very pleasant, easygoing and thoughtful in approach. Now I have some awesome charts and scales to absorb and practice because he left me with the best visual diagrams of scales on a fretboard I have ever seen. Looking forward to more lessons!

Students will learn basic chords, progressions, and scales on guitar while building a repertoire of songs that we'll choose together. During lessons students will be encouraged to sing if they'd like to learn to sing and play simultaneously. Students will also learn note reading and chord reading through written exercises. Intermediate students will learn basic improvisation and accompaniment skills.

I have spent the past 12 years of my life dedicated to the guitar. While obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Guitar performance at Oberlin Conservatory I was employed by the conservatory's secondary lessons department. This studio featured a diverse mix of college students, adults, and children. In addition I am Suzuki method certified and I was a summer instructor at the Amherst School of Guitar in Buffalo, NY. I have experience working with children from as young as 5 to as old as 65.

About Lenny
Studying music has tremendous benefits including: discipline, self confidence, problem solving, and stronger connections in the brain! Understanding music can give you new perspectives on how to look at the world. If you have felt the power of music then you owe it to yourself to understand and harness what is already a part of you. OWN IT!

While studying with me we will work on many facets of music including technique, sight reading, critical listening, music theory, improvisation, and how to apply these skills to a piece of music to truly express yourself. My goal is to instill a deep understanding of music to my students while letting their individual sensibilities show.

STYLES: I can teach all styles of American music (i.e Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, R&B etc.) as well as classical and fingerstyle.
I have a degree in classical
guitar and have performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra as well as done concerts in the USA, Italy, and the UK.
I have experience playing in many different bands in many styles including: Rock, Reggae, African, Blues, and Jazz groups.

SUZUKI METHOD: I am trained and certified in the Suzuki Guitar Method and spent 3 years teaching Suzuki in studio with children as young as 5. This involves a significant parent-teacher-student commitment and regularly yields impressive results.

ON TALENT: I agree with Shin-ichi Suzuki that talent is irrelevant and a myth. I believe that the potential of all my students are the same but they come to me with various starting skills levels and all learn at a very different pace. I believe that the myth of “talent” really just means that the individual has had a long exposure to music. This is why I emphasize critical listening in my lessons. If you have a large knowledge of music and sounds in your head it makes it easier to make connections and better assess your ideas.

Lenny was my daughter's first instructor for guitar, she had two years of piano - she was not as motivated with the piano instructor as with Lenny. He took his time with any questions she had, he was totally patient with her, he really has a understanding of music and is able to explain it in a way with minimal if no confusion. No matter what kind of day he may have had at school he remained absolutely consistent from week to week with how he taught during the lesson. His focus was where it should be, even when other family members needed to take my daughter he was undaunted yet caring. I would highly recommend this young man hands down. I told him personally through emails how thankful and blessed we were with him as a teacher. I have other children, older, and I have had them through various teachers with various instruments and Lenny is definitely a 5-Star.

Nick is an awesome guitarist teacher. My girls have learned so much from him - how to read and write music, bar chords, strumming patterns, music theory and all different genres of music (like jazz, classical and even reggae). Nick can listen to any song my daughters want to learn, then immediately put the notes down on paper and teach it to them. Under his tuition, they’ve performed solo gigs, in their school talent shows, and for and with their friends. My older daughter also plays electric guitar in a teenage rock band. Thanks so much, Nick!!

We were so happy that she had such an enthusiasm to take lessons and learn an instrument, but even happier that we found someone who shares this same enthusiasm when teaching. I have been exploring music since 5th grade, and exploring strings(guitar andukulele) for around 14 years. I am more interested in music as a means for personal growth and exploration rather than getting stuck on the technicalities of traditional music .. although music theory is extremely fascinating to me!

As a adult with ADHD, traditional music progress has always been a struggle - short attention and difficulty focusing in long-lengths. Despite this .. learning to make music for myself that both captures my creativity and curiosity, instead of what others wanted to hear has opened up a new appreciation and respect for myself. When dealing with ADHD or other emotional issues is significant boon.

Music is a wonderful tool for moving our emotions out of the hidden spaces within ourselves. As a teacher I am more concerned with helping my students realize the importance and impact of their progress in relation to themselves, rather than the merit of their progress in relation to ...

About Jace
My strongest attributes as a student, a teacher, a friend, and human is my ability to interact with those around me with patience and curiosity.

I approach everything I do with curiosity, because I believe that is when we reveal our selves- the meaning of life is not a question that is asked to us, but rather asked by us.

Why such an emphasis on curiosity?!?! As an adult with ADHD(incessant curiousity) I am working on constantly growing, and I am interested in helping others who struggle with similar issues grow despite the limitations they may perceive as impassable.

When we learn to view our circumstances as an opportunity to explore the world in the unique and novel way- there is a liberation from expectation that allows us to appreciate ourselves in a gentler and more kind way.

When we learn to accept and our shortcomings desig
n our world around those rather than pretend they aren't there- we gain the unique position of combining compassion and creativity.

I look forward to learning and exploring together!
