I've taught a lot of chemistry. When in doubt, mole it out!
General chemistry is my forte... you know, the stuff you either learn in the class called "chemistry" in high school or maybe "general chemistry" in college. If you want to know why sodium pops, fizzles, and ignites as it skates across the surface of a beaker of water, then you're looking in the right place. BUT...If you're looking for an organic chemistry tutor, then I'm not your guy. Why? Because frankly, stereoisomers all look the same to me ;)

About Hank
Stop right there!
You finally found me: your one-stop shop for chemistry, physics, and generally-all-things-physical-science-related help!

Who I am: I am a veteran physics, chemistry, engineering, and tech-ed teacher at the Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy. My Pennsylvania teaching certifications are in chemistry, physics, and technology education. I have been at the school since it opened its doors in 2009. Prior to teaching, I worked as a chemical engineer and a stock trader. I've performed on Broadway (yes THAT one in NYC), and I used to play the bassoon. I love to ski and play with my two children.

Why I am here: I mentioned that I was a chemical engineer by education... but now I'm a teacher?!?? Why would I forsake a much more profitable career for one in education? Because I love teaching :) In the years that I di
dn't teach, I always found some hobby that involved teaching people to do stuff, whether it was being a ski instructor at Seven Springs, teaching tennis lessons, tutoring family friends, or teaching a session on stock markets and trading at CMU. I'm a teacher now, which means that I have most of my summer off. That's where you come in.

Why you should hire me: A book can teach you a lot of stuff, and if you are one of those few individuals who absorbs everything they see or read and become instant masters (think Neo learning Jiu Jitsu in the Matrix), then you don't need me, and really, you don't need anyone here. But if you're like most people, then some of the concepts might be a bit tricky and often a few helpful analogies and rephrasing of material is necessary. That's where I excel. If you struggle with concepts, I work to find ways to get the information into your mind in a way that might be more meaningful to you.

For example, I was teaching students about Newton's Third Law (action and reaction). I asked them if they had ever been driving down a highway and hit a bug. They answered yes, and then I asked them why the bug splattered instead of the windshield. Categorically, they gave me the incorrect answer of "well, the bug hit the windshield with more force, didn't it?" I didn't answer them, but instead I showed them a video clip of a drag race between a Lamborghini Aventador and a Bugatti Veyron. Both cars went 0-60 in under 3 seconds. Pretty impressive. I turned off the video and asked them the question about the bug again, and they seemed confused, so I nudged them a bit more. "How long did it take that Veyron to go from 0-60?" A student shouted out, "about 2.6 seconds!" Then I asked him, "and how long did it take that hovering insect to get from 0 to 60, which is how fast your car was going when you hit him?" Suddenly, light bulbs started to flicker... "that was instant, like milliseconds!" I smiled as others started weighing in. "Yeah, that bug went 0-60 in under a second, so its ACCELERATION was greater!" So I finally answered, "correct, the force of the bug hitting the windshield is EXACTLY the same (but in the other direction) as the force of the windshield hitting the bug. Using Newton's Second Law equation, F=ma, if the forces are equal, but the mass of the car is MUCH MUCH bigger than the mass of the bug, it's easy to see what happens...[huge differences in acceleration]. And that is what ultimately destroys the bug. It's like a phrase I once heard from a skydiver--it's not the fall that hurts. It's the sudden stop at the end that can kill ya."

I hope that example gives you insight into the type of tutor that I am. I hope to hear from you!

PS... you might think that my online rates don't reflect the standard discount that many other tutors here give their students. That is true. While I don't shun technology, I also understand its limitations. Both of my specialties (chemistry and physics) involve a lot of equations and drawings... these are easily conveyed in short time when face to face. But when having to draw on a camera and/or type equations with lots of subscripts and superscripts, a lot of time is wasted. I don't discourage online help outright, but I don't recommend it as an initial session. That is why my prices display only a modest discount.

Hank has easily been one of the best reasons why I was able to comprehend chemistry throughout the year. In a class where the teacher focuses on the student body rather than individual students. Hank taught me more than probably any of the students have learned throughout the year.

Mr. Lancet is my conceptual and AP Physics C teacher in high school at Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He makes difficult concepts simple and relatable to everyday life so that his students can understand and practice high level concepts with ease. His unique teaching style makes every class fun, happy, and energetic. His positive attitude radiates into his students making the learning environment much better than the average class. Mr. Lancet does more than just get his students to pass a national exam, he manages to show them how to think creatively and analytically to give them skills they can use for the rest of their lives no matter what field they chose to enter. What he teaches does not just stick in his students' minds for the duration of his class but rather stays with them. He posses the rare skill to make his students interested in learning, allowing them to retain more of the information presented to them. Unlike traditional teachers, Mr. Lancet creates unique and fun experiments that test what knowledge his students have gathered in his courses and provide them with first hand accounts of the conceptual and theoretical topics covered in his classes. After I graduate from high school, if I am ever confused about any topic, related to the physical sciences or otherwise, Mr. Hank Lancet would be my first call. In no circumstance would I ever hesitate to hire Mr. Lancet should I require the aid.

I had Mr. Hank as an engineering teacher at my high school. What you will quickly see is that he has a wealth of knowledge just waiting to be shared with others. He is able to teach nearly every aspect of engineering, whether that be technical instruction or explaining what goes into being a good engineering student.

It seems that his teaching style is leading students to their own conclusions by giving them hints and guidance along the way including physical examples and practice work. Mr. Hank also is an incredibly patient teacher/tutor. He will use as many approaches as necessary to make sure that you will understand a topic.

I would not hesitate to hire Mr. Hank as a tutor. If you need help in science or engineering, I guarantee that you will have a very rewarding experience with Hank.

In essence, chemistry is the study of the change. And ultimately, these 'changes' are those that occur at the atomic level of our famous chemical elements; how they interact with each other, how they behave, and most importantly, how we can manipulate them to do amazing things. From synthesizing addition polymers like HDPE to solving for the internal energy of an expanding balloon. I focus on the foundations of chemistry by highlighting the keystone aspects that define its very nature. I take pertinent concepts from introductory chemistry, such as the periodic table of the elements and the SI unit system, and dissolve them into parcels of data that can easily be memorized, and that can be effectively recalled when you tackle the enigmatic units of chemistry that dazzle most students. I then offer meticulous and in depth explanations for the most daunting problems that plague chemistry. With me as your tutor, you will enter your chemistry lectures/classes with unparalleled confidence ...

About Amadou
I am a distinguished graduate with Summa Cum Laude honors from Ivy Tech College. I make it my duty to break down many of the complexities in math and science that have been plaguing students since the beginning of time. I have over 7 years of teaching experience, and I have taught several middle-school and high-school students math, science and ACT/SAT prep who have went on to make 180 degree turns in their grades under my instruction. And because I have worked with such a vast diversity of people over the span of 16 countries throughout the world, I have developed the patience and understanding that is crucial in producing stellar students. Age has never been a problem with me, as I've helped several post-graduate students straighten out their grievances in math and science.

As an engineering major at IIT, I naturally maintain an ex
emplary study ethic that inspires my students to achieve more. I bring results. I relate to my students by incorporating elements of the things that they like (sports, hobbies, music, etc...) into their most challenging courses allowing them to develop a passion for the courses I tutor. Additionally, I always make a conscious effort to work at each student's own pace and I make it my priority to decompose enigmatic topics into components that can be more easily internalized by my students, effectively increasing their grades and giving them the self-confidence and enthusiasm they need to fuel their future academic endeavors. I guarantee quality, commitment, and a passion for training my students to be the best.

I have lived in over 20 countries, which allowed me to speak several languages, and which permitted me to maintain my patience, élan and spirit of enthusiasm when dealing with even the most extreme personalities. I have solid background in both math and the natural sciences, as I have consistently maintained a 4.0 G.P.A since high school. I am now studying mechanical engineering at IIT, and I have gotten 5s in all of my AP Chemistry, AP Physics and AP Biology exams. I have also been the winner of many STEM-related competitions, through my demonstrating of exemplary leadership qualities and through my brainstorming of blue-sky ideas. I am also a "Mental-Math" practitioner, reflexologist and guitarist. I believe that everyone has potential; however potential is worthless unless put in motion. And experts like me value ourselves in our abilities to give students that push, that jolt of energy that galvanizes them into pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps, allowing them to achieve academic excellence.

When most people think of chemistry, they usually think of that really hard class they took in either high school or college, and immediately begin frowning. Then when the world chemical comes up, it doesn't get much better as they think usually of poisons or toxins.

I love teaching people that chemicals make up everything in our world, even the most beautiful parts of it. From humans, to flowers, to the food we eat, it is all chemistry.

I always try and go beyond my lessons and show how the theories are more understandable when we put them into the concepts of our daily lives. We grow to appreciate this very challenging subject more when we begin to see for ourselves.

I bring a lot of outside resources and examples that hopefully make it a fun and well rounded experience for each of my students.

About Melody
My musical experience began at the age of 4 on the piano. I have been classically trained for most of my life. I have performed on soundtracks, played with bands (in genres from Jazz to Metal), and accompanied choirs. I have taught intro to piano and music theory since the age of 15. Currently, I teach throughout the Dallas metroplex, play in several bands, as well as write music for Television and Film.

I see music as a language. Once it is mastered, it can be shared with anyone, anywhere. My goal as an instructor is to provide my students with an opportunity to discover their own musical potentials. From breaking the ice from playing for the very first time, to perfecting even the most structured and difficult pieces, I feel there are no limits. I feel comfortable teaching in any genre and always tailor my classes to match my studen
ts own individual learning style. In my lessons, I highlight important principles right from the start, such as posture, proper fingering, and rhythm training, to ensure no bad habits form that later are hard to break. As we become more confident in our playing, we transfer some of the traits contained within us. Those traits become the character and style of our "musical speech," which will help to define us as musicians. I recommend books and provide sheet music when we start learning songs. Learning music with me has been said by many of my students as, "the most fun they have ever had playing music."

In addition to music, I teach science in the subjects of Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology. I have my 200 hr yoga teaching certification and teach private class to aid people in living a healthy, fulfilling life.

Thanks again for reading my profile. Hope to meet you soon.

I can't recommend Melody enough! Melody teaches my 11 year old daughter piano once a week and we absolutely love her! She is highly professional while remaining accessible and fun. She is intuitive and skilled in helping my child grasp and practice the formal structures of playing and reading music, but she also remains flexible and open to the non-classical side of music! It is rare to find a teacher of this caliber.

I signed up with Melody for something unique - learning to speak from my diaphragm and speak with more bravado and projection. I've always been frustrated by how my voice goes out if I speak loudly in a crowded room.

She took me through different exercises she's borrowed from her singing lessons and applied it to my specific case. I have a much better idea of how my voice should sound and where the sound should come from. Although I still revert back to my old ways, I recognize it and from here on out it's about me actively trying to improve it with the skills provided to me.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I conducted research and my research was published in the journal "Inorganic Chemistry." In high school, I earned a 5 on the AP Chemistry Exam. I can tutor on the material covered in high school chemistry, AP Chemistry, General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Intermediate Inorganic Chemistry, as well as on the expectations of laboratory research.

About Alexander
My name is Alexander, a recent graduate of The Boston Conservatory M.M. in Cello Performance program. I love teaching students of all ages and abilities the joys of practicing, playing, and performing on the cello. I am an avid performer of solo, orchestral, and chamber music. I spent the final year of my undergraduate studies researching ways to more effectively teach chamber music.

My teaching philosophy puts a strong emphasis on mindfulness, which results in superb technical development and allows the student to make their musical mark on the works they perform. I encourage all students to engage in music making beyond the practice room and share the gifts they have. I realize that many students begin playing instruments during formative times in their lives. Through their musical journey, students learn much about themselves, and t
heir lessons help them to gain confidence in who they are. I look forward to mentoring this journey.

I worked as a TA for several undergraduate classes at UCLA, including Education 92F and Life Sciences 2-3. I also have gone through rigorous UCLA and Stanford University graduate-level coursework in science, math, educational strategies, and curriculum & instruction.

I have scored at the 98th percentile on the SAT I/II tests and received the highest score of 5 on multiple AP exams (see below for more details) as a high school student, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. I have been the recipient of over $350,000 worth of many university merit-based invitational and scholarship honors and awards. Some of the most notable scholarships I have been awarded are the Regents Scholarship from both UCLA and UCSB. Both provided me with a large monetary award (full-ride), priority enrollment, 4 years of room and board, and many other privileges, honors, and incentives.

The SAT examinations that I have scored at 98th percentile or higher are as follows: SAT I; SAT II - Math 2; and SAT II - Biology (M). I also took many AP exams during high school, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. Some of the exams that I have taken include: AP Physics B (Score = 5); AP Chemistry (Score = 5); AP Biology (Score = 5); AP Calculus AB (Score = 5); AP Statistics (Score = 5); AP US Government & Politics (Score = 5). I continuously study and retake the SAT, ACT, and AP Exams to stay on par with both the big and small changes each year to the exams.

~~~~~~~~~~~ My Personal Message to You ~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the wisest teachers once said that poor grades, study habits, and test scores are not life-threatening, but they are college-, job- , career-, and quality-of-life threatening. The most competitive students take a pro-active approaching to academics and tutoring while the least competitive take a reactive approach. All you need to do is watching the documentary 'Two Million Minutes' by Bob Compton to realize why students in other countries such as India and China surpass American peers in almost every subject, especially language (writing, grammar, etc.), math, science, and engineering-related subjects. They attend extra classes and tutoring from 6-7 AM in the morning to almost midnight.
In today's fast-paced and competitive job market, there is simply too much to lose by not investing now in your child's or your education. If a student is struggling, it makes sense to get him/her the help needed so that the time spent in school is worthwhile. Great grades and test scores can open doors that may have been previously closed and are also significant factors when determining scholarships, so investing time and effort now can pay off substantially in the future. Finally, let's not forget the most important part in all of this: the student. The confidence, knowledge, and skills that a student gains through effective tutoring can last a lifetime.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch. Every day spent waiting is another class or lecture's worth of material that you might potentially fall behind or another low quiz/test/exam score that will only make it harder to recover from. I have had too many students who could have received the grade(s) they wanted had they contacted me from the beginning.
Currently teaching and tutored many students in Chemistry from High School to College level. I have brought many failing or just passing students to B+'s and A's. I myself took advanced Chemistry at UPenn, and also took AP Chemistry. In addition to reinforcing the fundamentals, and dissecting advanced material so it is more easily understood, my plan to initially is to examine my student's thought process, and then deconstruct their approach so it becomes more systematic and methodical.
About Craig
Welcome students and parents: You may not know it yet, but stumbling upon my page may change your life for the better. With me, your immersion into the world of science and education may open up opportunities that may alter your children's future path.
I have tutored students at the junior/high school, and college levels. As a teaching assistance for undergraduates at the Ivy league, the Univ of Pennsylvania, I teach pupils to dissect problems and challenges into manageable components. This was my stepping stone into a professorial role. I am originally from NYC, and attended Stuyvesant, so I also help tutor students with the SSAT and SHSAT. Knowledge and understanding alone does not make a good educator, it is the ability to transmit such skills which is remarkable.
I have a Master's of Science of Biochemical Engineering from the
University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor's of Science in biomedical sciences from King's College, University of London.
I love Chemistry a lot! Chemistry has always been my forte. I understand all the concepts of inorganic and organic chemistry very well. I have helped my classmates and juniors with chemistry when I was in high school. Currently, I am working as an online tutor at Chegg Inc. At first, I absorb the question and ask the student for his/her thoughts about the questions and I also first want to know their approach towards the questions. Then, I make them understand why their approach is right or wrong. After explaining to them I usually ask small questions regarding the topic on which I have explained the student. I always want to make sure that the student understands the topic clearly. I also tend to bring in a lot of real life and personalized examples to make the lesson interesting. I love students asking me creative and thoughtful questions to understand a topic better.
About Sifat Bin
I have been a Teacher's assistant throughout my high school. For the first two years, I have assisted my math and chemistry teachers to help my fellow class mates understand various problems and concepts. For the last two years, I have been helping my Math, Chemistry and Biology teacher to not only help my classmates understand problems but also to help my juniors understand key concepts. I have also tutored my juniors in Math, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science. I have always tutored my younger sister who is in class 5. I have also tutored two of my cousins who are in class 7 and 11 respectively.
I came from Bangladesh in April,2016. I was enrolled in a school and about to give my Cambridge International Exams from there but then I had to move to USA for certain family emergencies. Later, I had completed my examinations from Nicevi
lle High school. I love sports. I was the School cricket team captain and led my team to various tournament triumphs. I also used to play soccer. But I had a fracture in my finger while playing a match. I scored 6 goals in that match and later discovered that I had fractured my finger. I have also been in the top ranked table tennis players in my school. The only two matches that the school champion had lost that year were against me. I am very fond of travelling. In a short span of 6 months I have already visited 9 states. I like to make friends and help people whenever I get any opportunity. I am very calm and collective. I always try to help others understand various problems from different perspectives using numerous examples. I believe in having a friendly relationship between teachers and students.
