My Background

I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Ar
ea.

Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar classes in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. Since 2012 I've been running my own full time studio.

Philosophy of Learning

Lessons are generally designed to work towards giving students the tools to accomplish their goals and become increasingly independent over time. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What kind of music do you want to make? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.

I also love to help students put together a song, record, and produce it for them so that they can have a recording to share with their friends and family.

I also hold events for my students. (Check out our pictures and videos below!)
Younger students have opportunities to perform for friends and family at my studio every few months. Once or twice a year we'll also stage a larger event off site for more individual students and bands classes to perform.
Adult students also occasionally have events where they get a chance to get together and play music as well.

Aside from in-studio lessons, students also have the option to sign up for online lessons via Skype.
(*Online lessons offered during different times than in-studio lessons.)

*Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, I'm not currently accepting students for bi-weekly lessons. I can do regular weekly lessons, or occasional drop-in lessons, but bi-weekly appointments make it really hard for me to give the best scheduled times to my existing weekly students. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

My studio is equipped with:

*Music Stands

*A P.A. System

*Vocal and instrument microphones

*Guitars, Basses, Ukulele, Banjos, etc

*Two guitar amps and a bass amp

*Various percussion including a fully equipped acoustic drum set

*A Roland V-Drums electronic drum set

*An electric piano console and Yamaha organ

*A MicroKorg Synthesizer

*A Tuba, Trombone, Cornet, Saxophone, and Flute

*An extensive physical and virtual music library

*A recording system that students are not only welcome to use but encouraged to

*HD Webcam and condenser microphone for high fidelity online lessons via Skype

After a break of more than a year I wanted to restart my Trumpet lessons. I chose Jesse based on the reviews and Jesse did not disappoint. He is very patient and focused teacher. I liked his structured method and tools he uses. I was able to get back in groove in no time.

Highly recommended.

I can help beginners get started or coach advanced students who are preparing for auditions.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

Mr. Gallo is an excellent instructor. He worked with my son to get to know where he was as a student and then created instruction based on that. He also was able to pinpoint what areas my son needed to work on to become a better musician. We are very happy with his methods and plan to continue with Mr. Gallo as my son continues to develop and learn his instrument.

Mr. Gallo is phenominal! My son has learned so much in such a short time. He is patient, understanding, and very professional. He has a knack for adapting the lessons to suit the student’s needs, not the other way around, which is beyond helpful since my son battles with ADHD. His years and years of experience, along with the long list of sincere reviews posted by others, speak for itself. My hope is that my son will be first chair every year while in school, and I believe whole- heartedly that Mr. Gallo will get him there. Simply put, great teacher, and great methods. You absolutely, 100%, get what you pay for. The world needs more teachers like this. Happy student, and happy mom!! :)

My son has been taking lessons with Mr. Gallo for a few months, and his progress on the french horn has been amazing and quite surprising! Mr. Gallo is extremely patient and provides excellent instruction that has helped my son develop technical skills to improve his intonation, endurance, and pitch recognition. Mr. Gallo has the perfect balance of guided instruction, positive feedback, making the lesson fun, and ability to push a student further in his playing. I was a little hesitant to try online lessons, but it is honestly the best solution when you have an instructor who cares so deeply for his students and their improvement. I would absolutely recommend Mr. Gallo!

I have been teaching music for over 10 years. I am a strong believer in making sure my students have strong fundamentals. The stronger your fundamentals the easier it is to play the way you want to play. I have a lot to offer a student that goes far beyond playing the instrument. I have a lot of experience helping students learn how to deal with performance anxiety and learn music theory.

About Jeremy
I have been teaching music for over 10 years now. I come from Indiana and I worked as a brass teacher for several state finalist high school marching bands.

I believe that students need to feel free to make mistakes. When students feel comfortable it is easier for them to focus on getting better and are much more receptive to feedback.

I currently play euphonium for the Philadelphia Wind Symphony. I have also performed professionally for several musicals including West Side Story, Pirates of Penzance, and Animal farm. My previous performance experience includes being principal trombone of the Audubon Symphony Orchestra, principal euphonium for the Michigan City Municipal Band, and performing a solo work with the IUSB Wind Ensemble.

My main specialty lies with classical trombone but I also have plenty of experience with jazz music.

Learn how to master the art of tuba playing with a current Juilliard student. David Freeman, 21, has studied with Alan Baer of the New York Philharmonic for the past 4 years, and is expected to graduate from The Juilliard School in 2018. Originally from Los Angeles, David has had the pleasure of taking lessons with and working alongside many of LA's top tuba players, including Jim Self, Norm Pearson, Jeff Anderson, Scott Sutherland, and John van Houten. His lessons focus on preparing students of any level to take auditions, apply for schools/colleges, and play in bands/orchestras.

About David
David Freeman, 21, currently attends The Juilliard School in New York City, pursuing a bachelor of music degree in tuba performance. His primary teacher is tubist Alan Baer, of the New York Philharmonic. Before his acceptance into Juilliard, David studied and worked with many professional musicians throughout Los Angeles, CA. He has had the privilege of taking lessons, attending master classes, and performing with some of the world’s best tubists including Jim Self, Roger Bobo, Norm Pearson, Jeff Anderson, and John Van Houten. He studied primarily with freelance trombonist Amy Bowers, of USC.

David's past teaching experiences include giving masterclasses, private lessons, and coaching small to large ensembles at a high school level. As a former drum major, David led/conducted his band frequently, preparing them for performances and com
petitions. He has a great amount of experience in audition preparation/success, as it is his most specialized subject. During his high school years between 2010-2014, David took over 15 live auditions on the tuba, earning himself a 100% success rate. He landed spots in ensembles all across California including Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, All-State Orchestra (both CODA and CBDA), All-State Winds, All-Southern Winds, and many more. During his summers, David attended Idyllwild Arts, where he landed the first chair spot two summers in a row by live audition, and won the orchestra spot by recorded audition during his final summer. Because of his dedication and strong preparation, David won a spot in every college he applied to including Juilliard, University of Southern California, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, University of Colorado Boulder, and California State University Long Beach.

Though he is a full time student and member of the Juilliard Orchestra, David also has had many performance opportunities outside of school. In 2014, he performed the Vaughan-Williams Tuba Concerto with the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, and since then, he has had the pleasure of performing with the Brooklyn Symphony, Mannes College, Weill-Cornell, Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, and the Altino Brothers at Carnegie Hall.

David's brass quintet, Apex Brass, regularly performs in prestigious venues all across New York, including Alice Tully Hall, New York Supreme Court, Morgan Library, and various museums. In the summer of 2017, the quintet took off to Japan, where they competed in the 9th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. Shortly after, Apex was invited to Tianjin, China, where they performed at the ground-breaking ceremony for the new Juilliard-Tianjin campus, and gave a recital at the Tianjin Conservatory.

David is a truly superb teacher! I was in a bit of a unique situation where I had to learn tuba for a specific performance. Never having played tuba before, (or any brass instrument, for that matter) I was a bit worried. I took some lessons from David, and within two weeks, I got my chops together. David's instruction gave me the confidence and abilities that I needed to perform in a rather high pressure setting. Highly recommended.

I have been playing Tuba for 9 years and marching Contra/Tuba in the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. Had personal training with some of the best brass players in the business including Sam Palafian.

About Austin
I’m a fun and energetic teacher who loves a good laugh. I am a professional saxophone player, but can teach a range of woodwinds to advanced levels and brass instruments up to intermediate levels. I harp on the importance of breathing by teaching Breathing Gym techniques to my students for control and relaxation. I learned from the one and only Sam Palafian, the inventor of Breathing Gym while I marched at the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps on the Contra/Tuba line.

Successful teacher with 11 years teaching experience. My students have consistently gone on to become successful musicians at the state and collegiate levels earning scholarships to some of the best music schools in the nation. You will be challenged to be among the very best! I know what it takes to overcome obstacles and be a successful musician! My experience includes participation in award-winning ensembles, studying with world-class orchestral musicians, and performing with some of the most well-known names in the world of tuba.

About Brian
I am a band director of 11 years. I have taught and performed professionally in the Jackson, TN and Memphis, TN regions for 7 years and have been active as a director in Florida for 4 years.

I graduated from the University of Memphis in 2007 with a masters of music in performance. While at Memphis, I studied with Charles Schulz (principal tubist, Memphis Symphony Orchestra), John Mueller (euphonium), and David Spencer (trumpet). I also had the opportunity to perform with world class tubist Jens Bjorn-Larsen. I was also awarded the Clement Santi Memorial Brass Scholarship.

During my teaching tenure in west Tennessee, I had students earn the top chairs at All-State, win the concerto competitions, be accepted to numerous schools of music (including Northwestern University, University of Memphis, University of Tennessee, Belmont University
, University of Mississippi), and be awarded the highest scholarship for entering freshmen in the Rudi Scheidt School of Music (Memphis).

During my tenure in west Tennessee, I had the privilege of leading my ensembles to earning numerous awards including Superior and Excellent Ratings. I am in the process now of building a young band program to be equally successful.

I know what it means to fail. I know what it means to succeed. I know what it takes to bridge the gap between the two—dedication, hard work, and a desire to succeed.
