About Darrell
Why these lessons are different:
- Formally trained conductor/composer/producer
- Individual or group session options including full band production
- A long roster of satisfied clients
- Broad base of musical styles (rock, classical, jazz, blues, metal, bluegrass, folk, theater, big band, symphonic, pop, punk, country, march, gospel, avant-garde...)
- Over 20 yrs teaching experience and work with recognized professionals including work in some of the top-rated private schools in the United States
- Over 30 years performing experience

Instrument-specific instruction:
- Voice
- Guitar [Spanish, acoustic, electric]
- Electric Bass
- Piano/Keyboard
- Woodwinds [specializing in saxophones]
- Percussion
- Brass & Bowed Strings [performance preparation only]

My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to
) the Classical approach to Western tonal harmony and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. In my experience, this structure creates the strongest foundation for pupils to build the rest of their musical lives on, whether professionally or solely for personal enjoyment. All of my students are on the fast track to studying music theory. Whatever level they are at when I start with them, I guide their efforts into bringing the students up to a certain level of comprehension regarding the mathematical aspects of music and how it relates to their instruments. This understanding of theoretical principles of sound allows the students to play any style of music they wish, no matter how their tastes may change throughout their lives.

My 16 year old son loves his lessons with Darrell and looks forward to them every week. He'd been taking guitar lessons elsewhere that were okay-ish, but this is so much more. Darrell is great, not only does he get along with and make my son want to learn, but at the same time they are working on voice, he is also teaching keyboard and working on the guitar! We really couldn't have asked for a better instructor.

This is my primary instrument and the one I am the most excited about. I've been teaching saxophone for a year and my students have gone on to perform in area-all-state competitions and concerts in the NY area. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play a few folk songs and as time goes on you'll be able to read treble clef. I specialize in classical, typically use Rubank or Jump Right In books, and have the following tools available for your lessons: metronome, and laptop. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Robin
Hi, there! My name is Robin L. and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2014 and have loved helping my students learn to play their band instrument for solo competitions, or just for fun! I went to Roberts Wesleyan College and earned a degree in music education (K-12) in 2016. I'm an energetic and fun person. I believe that with hard work and dedication, you can accomplish anything; but I also believe that the process should be fun! I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

Robin was early to our first lesson. She worked with my son easily, he felt comfortable with her. She helped him with his fingering and gave tips for the difficult notes. We look forward to working with her for the next month.

Don't trust Robin as your kids teacjher!

When we stumbled upon her - we read her reviews and ended up in requesting a session with Robin. I gave a schedule and Robin agreed to that. I was very specific in setting the expectation with take lessons that i am looking to utilize summer vacations as much as possible. Robin takes the first lesson (which was an ice breaker for my 6 year old daughter, as first lesson cannot be more than that). But as soon as the lesson was over, Robin sends the initiation that she is out for 2 weeks. Not only that, the very next class she just abruptly cancels the session. She very well knew that how keen we were for her to cover up as much ground as possible. TO explain a 6 year old such a behavior is not easy. It's negative attitude from Robin and had to somehow makeup something for my daughter. We ended up canceling all her sessions. Robin did not even feel necessary to call and schedule in such a way that its a progress for my daughter. I wrote 2-3 emails and we called 3 times. She did not respond to any of our calls. I you are looking for your child - i would not recommend Robin to be trusted. Just keep away from her.

I work with the student to develop a curriculum based on their musical interests and my own teaching pedagogy. I strongly feel that for musicians to own their education, they must have a say in what they play. Assigning method books and mindless etudes to practice doesn't have nearly the same effect asking them "Ok, what kind of music do YOU like? What do you want to PLAY? What do you want to LEARN?".

I believe that students learn best when they are invested in a subject, and the best way to get them invested is to individually get to know each one, speak to them on their level, and get them playing music they're interested in.

About Jon
I'm a professional performer, educator, and recording artist. I received my Masters in Music from New Mexico State University, and my BA and BMA from the College of Wooster in Ohio.

Students can expect to improve their technique and performing repertoire within a matter of weeks. We will collaborate to find music that he or she is interested in, plus work on exercises that will build technique and sound quality. It doesn’t matter WHAT you’re playing, but HOW you play it.

I’ve been a musician for over 20 years and played in a wide variety of settings. In lessons, I’ll draw from that experience to help students achieve their musical goals.

As a performing artist, I’ve played in classic big bands, small jazz combos, and R&B style horn sections, just to name a few. I’m passionate about classical music, jazz, R&B, and funk, but good
technique is good technique, and a proficient musician should and can jump from one style to another with ease.

I have been playing saxophone for eleven years and absolutely love teaching it as much as I do performing. My goal is to inspire any student by the power of music. My lessons are relaxed, fun, and productive. I teach all ages and all ability levels on saxophone - soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone. Students will learn technical skills, repertoire, and/or a basic overview of the saxophone. I also have experience in clarinet and flute. Ultimately, I want to positively influence any and every student and create a foundation of music for them to carry for a lifetime.

About Emily
I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in performance from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. I will also be attending the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities for a Master of Music degree in performance as well. I hope to continue my education and pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree within the next few years.

In the eleven years I have played saxophone, I have participated in a wide variety of ensembles. I have played lead alto saxophone in my undergraduate jazz band my entire four years there and principal saxophonist in the wind ensemble my senior year. I have also participated in pit orchestra, playing clarinet, flute, and soprano saxophone, saxophone ensemble, and in a backup band for a show choir, Kids from Wisconsin, playing alto, tenor, and soprano. I have also recently been awarded the Tony Winters Ins
trumental Music Award for extraordinary musical performance.

With knowledge in jazz, classical, and pop saxophone, I am able to teach all ages and ability levels in one, or all three of these categories. I have had a few students over the past six months and absolutely love teaching them. We have covered technical skills, repertoire, and saxophone basics. Whether it's a 30 minute lesson or a 60 minute lesson, I make every second count! I work in a relaxed environment and make it fun and productive for all ages. I am willing to do lessons online or in-home.

My passion for music has no limit and I really want to share that with any and every student. I strive to be a positive influence in the music teaching world so that students can carry a firm foundation of music for a lifetime. I look forward to meeting you and helping you become a better musician!

Do you want to learn the basics of developing a beautiful tone and good technique? Do you want to learn how to make practicing fun and efficient? From years of studying with world-renown and locally acclaimed saxophonists and composers, including Jimmy Heath, Charles McPherson, Tamir Hendelman Steven Lugerner and Patrick Wolff, while also gigging around the community, I have learned a sure method to help you get better quickly and have fun doing it! In addition to playing jazz saxophone - on alto, tenor and baritone sax - for seven years, I have two years of experience playing classical clarinet and seven years of experience on classical saxophone.

About Eli
I picked up the saxophone when I was in fifth grade and have since fallen in love with jazz music! After my first time going to the Stanford Jazz Workshop in sixth grade, I started transcribing Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Gerry Mulligan, and later Joe Henderson, one of my biggest influences. After playing alto in middle school, I switched to Tenor Sax in high school and began checking out Sonny Rollins and Sonny Stitt, who have become, along with Joe Henderson, my foundation of jazz language.

Currently in my senior year at Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, I am a part of the marching band (tenor sax), symphonic band (clarinet), and jazz band (tenor sax), while also gigging privately and with my mentor - Steven Lugerner - around the community in Atherton, Hillsborough, San Francisco, Oakland, and Los Altos. In ad
dition to performing I have also attended the Stanford Jazz Camp for six years, the Stanford Jazz Institute for two years, and the Centrum Jazz at Port Townsend Institute recently this past summer.

In addition to music, I absolutely love and have experience working with children, including those with developmental disabilities. For the past two years I have volunteered at the Arbor Bay School for Developmentally Disabled children in San Carlos as a teacher's assistant, working with elementary and middle school-aged children. In addition, during my freshman year I did individual math tutoring with the organization Healthy Cities Tutoring, helping a struggling sixth grader with understanding math concepts and learning time-management and organizational skills.

Although I love playing jazz music, I have several other passions, including but not limited to scuba diving, sailing, hiking, and lacrosse. At school I am known for being on the Varsity Lacrosse team while also being the quirky jazz kid! My first priority is having fun, and I hope to help you have as much fun as possible playing music!

When taking lessons with me, you will be learning from a musician that has performed and recorded with Grammy-level instrumentalists such as Alex Sipiagin, Ulysses Owens Jr., Christian Sands, Yotam Silberstein, Gil Goldstein, Ben Williams, Reuben Rogers, and Michael Dease. Having studied and performed in multiple genres including classical, jazz, R&B, musical theater, gospel, and others, I will be able to show you how to master your instrument in any context. If you are an advanced musician looking to find a unique voice in this field, look no further. Having recorded my own compositions commercially with some of the most well-regarded artists in New York, you will be studying with someone who knows what it takes to develop their own personal style successfully. I teach everything from fundamentals, to theory, to composition, to doubling, to improvisation and more. I would love to get to know you and share with you what my teachers so graciously shared with me!

About Daniel
Greetings! Thank you for taking a look at my profile!

As someone who was born into a life of music (everyone in my family is an instrumentalist), nothing gives me more joy than to engage in its performance, creation, or teaching. In my earlier years I played on multiple musical theater shows in Florida such as The Addams Family, Spamelot, Once On This Island, Reefer Madness, Five Guys Named Moe, and Chicago, where I played various saxophone, clarinet, and flute parts. After receiving two bachelor's degrees: one in jazz studies and one in clarinet performance, I went on to receive a master's degree in jazz composition at Manhattan School of Music in New York City. During my years of professional performance in New York, I have recorded two original records, one of which with grammy-level artists such as Ulysses Owens Jr., Reuben Rogers,
Christian Sands, and Michael Dease. I have also performed and recorded with Alex Sipiagin, Yotam Silverstein, Gil Goldstein, and Ben Williams. Before moving to New York, I performed with the Disney land All-American College band in Anaheim, California, and then, a few years later, participated in the Betty Carter jazz Ahead program in Washington, D.C. I was also accepted to the Metropole workshop for jazz arrangers in The Netherlands, hosted by Vince mendoza, Becca Stephens, and the Metropole Orchestra, the premiere jazz and pop orchestra in the world. I was accepted among 7 other international composers as the single representative of the United States. Having received rave reviews from famed publications such as jazz music archives, jazz weekly, and all about jazz, my body of work is constantly growing.

Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in taking lessons!
