I have extensive training and experience with opera. I have been classically trained since I was 12 years old. I have been teaching for several years now. I have ample opera performance experience from college productions and also professional singing engagements.

With operatic singing, it is very important to be able to sing properly, but moreover to be able to act and dance on stage. If you take lessons with me I will help you study the technical details of producing good tone with your voice, but also will help you study the text and convey the message of the music properly.

As a voice instructor with over 20 years experience in the private studio, college environment, church ministry, high school chorus master teacher, and as a free-lance performer, I understand that each student requires tools and techniques unique to their needs to grow and improve. Focusing on the basics of breath control, efficient support, and healthy vocal production, my gift of hearing and assessing each student's strengths and weaknesses allows me to create lessons catered to each singer's specific needs.

With a Master of Music in vocal performance from Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, an appreciation of various styles of music, and my personal investment in each individual singer, I am able to successfully share my knowledge of the vocal instrument and my love of music with my students. Alignment is the basis a great technique. Each person is different, and knowing how to help them release unwanted tension is critical.

Vocal resonance is how opera singers are heard without amplification. Having an open throat and lifting the soft palate not only help your boost the harmonic spectrum of you voice, but also prevents you from pushing or over-singing.

The articulators, the lips and tongue, must be trained independently through exercises that coordinate awareness and motor skill.

I have been teaching voice for more than 15 years. I teach a classical technique which can be applied to any style of singing. I am on the faculty of two universities as a voice teacher, and also have private studios in three locations.
