Using your favorite bass lines, we will explore music theory on the bass. Learn to create your own bass part for songs. Be able to demonstrate proper technique and tonal production on the instrument. Learn musical vocabulary and alternate techniques necessary to perform songs on the bass.

About Michael
Michael C. was eleven years old when he began to play the electric bass guitar. He decided to get an electric bass because it was the one instrument needed to start a band among his friends. In addition to playing the electric bass, Michael enjoyed time practicing on the guitar and piano in high school. Transferring the knowledge and finger technique to the guitar came easy because of the similarities between guitar and the bass. And growing up with an upright piano in the house always lead to tinkering and eventually became a proficiency after college. In 1996 Michael enrolled at the the Philadelphia University of the Arts. He was awarded a presidential merit scholarship and a university grant based on his entrance audition. During his studies Michael was recruited for a student ensemble also know as Metagroove. During this time Michael
had shared stages with guitarist John Scofield, Singer Ike Willis (Frank Zappa Band), Medeski Martin and Wood and The Disco Biscuits among countless others.

Michael has completed a Master of Arts in music education as well as Bachelor of Music in bass performance. Michael is qualified to teach on bass, upright bass, guitar, drums, piano, voice and a rare instrument called steel pan (steel drum) among others. Michael performs as a freelance musician. He can be found performing regularly at private parties and events around the greater Philadelphia area. He has performed playing most styles and genres of music. Among these styles are Pop, R & B, Blues, Hip Hop, Jazz, Calypso, Flamenco, Latin, Pop, Musical Theater and Rock & Roll.

Michael is a trained professional and prefers to cater his lessons to the individual need of each student. He believes that each student is unique and will encounter challenges in their own manner. Michael likes to supplement his lessons using musical interests of the student. C. has been known to arrange popular pieces for recital performances for his students. Some of the pieces he has arranged for his students include Something in the Way She Moves (Beetles), Long distance Run Around (The Who), Iron Man (Black Sabbath), That' €™s What Makes You Beautiful (One Direction), Hall of Fame (The Script) among many more. Michael encourages his students to use the music they love to challenge their ability and cognitive processes. Michael has the experience and training required to inspire and motivate you to become successful not only in music but in your daily endeavors.

*** Lesson Details ***
Michael has over twelve years experience teaching music and chooses to cater his lessons to the goals of his clients. He does not follow a set curriculum because different students tend to have different goals and expectations.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Logic Pro X, Reason, Fast Track pro audio, Double Bass, Piano, Rhodes Electric Piano, Acoustic guitar, Electric Guitar, Flute, Sax, Clarinet, trumpet, Electric basses, Steel Pans (drums), etc.

I went into banjo lessons not knowing if I could master the instrument or not, being nearly 70 years old. While by no means a master (and never going to be), I have learned so much from Sam and he has shown such patience with me. I often leave my lessons wondering how he ever puts up with me - but he does. His encourgement, laid-back style, expertise and knowledge of music (plus theory) and the banjo is impressive. His good nature makes my lessons so much more pleasant. I would say Sam is a a great teacher for both a beginner or an accomplished musician or in between. He likes to talk and demonstrate (nice and slowly if requested) so I would recommend hour-long lessons at first.

Explore any and all areas of upright bass performance. Jazz, walking bass lines, orchestral playing (I teach both German bow and French bow). Focus on developing strong technique and good intonation, which is the basis of playing for all styles of music.

About Tim
I earned my master’s degree in jazz studies from The University of the Arts. As adjunct professor of music at Lebanon Valley College, I teach double bass, bass guitar, jazz improvisation, and directs small-group jazz combos. Working with students of all ages, I also teach workshops, clinics, and master classes at high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools in Pennsylvania and Maryland, as well as keeping a private teaching studio out of my Bucks County home.

Lessons are available on upright bass, electric bass, improvisation, music theory, and ear training at all ability levels and all ages, from absolute beginners to high school students preparing for college auditions to adults. Some of my students have been accepted to various regional orchestras and jazz bands, and I'm very proud of their hard work.

While having an outl
ined curriculum to develop my students’ technique, reading, and knowledge of theory, I cater to their interests by showing them how to apply what the are learning to the music that they already know and love.

I specialize in playing the upright bass, and I have a great time teaching it. I enjoy giving the student perspective on the instrument, explaining the entire double bass and the intricate methods I've used to master it, from Simandl to Rabbath.

I studied upright bass at two Midwest Universities, Northern Kentucky University and University of Cincinnati CCM. I have been playing the bass professionally in ensembles for years. I have experience playing jazz, blues, bluegrass, rock, folk, musical theatre and classical music.

About David
My name is David and I'm a professional musician who just moved to North Austin. I came from Cincinnati, where I went to the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, taught dozens of students at all levels and played regular gigs every weekend. I have been teaching for over fifteen years, and I'm looking to get a few new students.
I teach guitar, piano, bass guitar and even upright bass. If it's a tutor you are looking for I can also teach music theory and appreciation. I have a knack for teaching young people, probably because I was young when I started my musical journey. I've been very successful at inspiring a student's love of music and instilling the patience required to take on the challenge of playing an instrument.
The first thing I like to do is get to know you, the music you enjoy and your goals. In a way, I l
ike to begin by letting the student lead.
In addition to learning from you, I intend to present you with new information, to try and broaden your musical tastes and teach you how to be an active listener.

The Upright is a very demanding instrument and it is not for the light of heart. If you're a complete beginner or even a more advanced player the same concepts can be applied to help further yourself. I will teach you all you need to know to advance your technique as well as your musicality. From playing scales to using a bow, playing melodies and improvising. I can help you start to build walking lines. Most importantly we will spend time listening to the greats of the upright and trying to "feel" the way they do.

About William
I'm a touring/ gigging/ recording artist in Los Angeles. I graduated from Los Angeles College of Music with a bachelors degree in Bass Performance.

Bass is an instrument that can be easy to pick up but incredibly hard to put down. It is also incredibly hard to master... However, I'm here to help!! Week by week it's my job to make my students feel more relaxed and comfortable with the instrument. Nothing inspires me more than watching my students improve.

I grew up playing the piano from a young age. I switched over to the bass when I turned 14 and I haven't looked back. I've studied Jazz and Classical Upright bass as well as many more contemporary styles involving the Electric and Key basses.

I am more than capable to teach brand new students the very fundamentals of music while coaching them to some of the more advanced c
oncepts of improvisation and emoting.

The most important thing I would like to emphasize is that music is fun and while learning can be a drag at the end of the day your journey through this growth and development should be FUN!!

I've been playing the upright bass (double bass) for ten years now. I'm equally skilled with classical music and jazz. I studied jazz at BYU, and played bass with BYU's top jazz ensemble, Synthesis.

Currently, I play gigs in the SLC metro area with several different jazz groups.

I love this instrument. I'm always trying to improve my own abilities on it, and push the limits of what's possible. Recently, I've transferred movements from the Bach Cello Suites onto the bass, and even a couple cello concertos.

I'll teach you how to play in tune, how to get your arms and hands in shape, how to play slow, how to play fast. You'll also learn how to read music, how to play by ear, scales, music theory, and more.

About Chris
I've been playing music for most of my life. Music is what I do full time, supporting myself, my wife, and my three children. It would be easiest to explain my musical life with a timeline:

Age 9 - piano, drums
Age 10 - cello
Age 12 - guitar, bass guitar
Age 16 - harmonica, mandolin
Age 17 - upright bass
Age 19 - ukulele
Age 21 - baroque cello
Age 22 - baroque violone
Age 24 - Banjo, Renaissance lute

I studied cello performance at three different schools (USF, BYU-Idaho, and BYU). I then switched majors, and studied commercial music at BYU. There I studied sound recording, songwriting, orchestration, film scoring, and jazz. I also played the upright bass and bass guitar with their top jazz ensemble, Synthesis.

Today, I do a mix of several different things - studio recording, performing (piano, bass and cello), arranging,
songwriting, and teaching. I've got experience in all kinds of styles - classical, rock, pop, jazz, Latin, singer-songwriter - and I'd love to pass some knowledge and skills on to you!
