I'm a cellist and educator who has taught students of all ages and abilities. I strive to enable my students to find their own style and voice on the instrument. During the past six years my students have applied their skills in orchestras, recitals, and bands. My lesson plans include technical development, various repertoire including Suzuki, and exploration of personal musical interests and songwriting. Cello is my passion and I want to share that with you!

About Kristen
Kristen is an accomplished cellist and music educator who has been teaching private lessons since 2009. She has helped her students develop technique, confidence in playing, note reading, orchestral and improvisational skills.

Kristen received her training at the Boston Conservatory, earning a Bachelor of Music in String Performance (2008) and a Masters of Music in Music Education (2010.) Her teaching style can be described as kind, patient, and knowledgable, with the ability to help push her students to new heights through finding their own musical voice through the instrument.

Kristen is also an experienced performing musician. She has toured nationally and internationally, and her cello playing with the band Gem Club can be heard on NPR's "All Songs Considered" and "Tiny Desk Concerts." You can hear her on the soundtrack to ABC'

Kristen has been a truly fantastic cello teacher to my daughter (14) for over 3 years!
Her lessons are truly engaging and productive and she can communicate the information in a way that is easy to understand. She so very patient and encouraging while also inspiring excellence in her students. She keeps the lessons fun and interesting by spending some time each week on playing duets, sight-reading and learning a variety of musical styles. Her own incredible musical talent is an inspiration and her enthusiasm is contagious!

Studying the cello with me will include work with basic skills, bow technique, left hand technique and musicality. In lessons we will do a variety of exercises to strengthen these aspects of cello playing. We will use cello solo pieces and etudes to put these skills in context.

Angelica was my first teacher. I started with her when I was in 5th grade. I was basically new to cello but Angelica was ready to take on the challenge. Right away she put me through Sizuki books and prepped me for solo and ensemble! At the time she was teaching me she was at WMU and she always would brag about me to her friends also studying music! Great teacher! Great energy! Love her! And she pushed me to keep playing and now I study music at the collegiate level. Not a cello major but I still take private lessons

I were struggling for the busy schedule before. I'm so happy to find this online lesson, more important thing is that we get a pretty good teacher. We will definitely keep the violin lessons on with Susanna. My daughter has joined two orchestras for almost two years. This lesson will be a great help for my daughter in future.

Daniel Tressel is an exceptional musician and teacher who has been providing cello lessons to my son for the past five years. Under his direction, my son has reached a level of play that is far beyond what he would have attained through his school orchestra program alone. Daniel is professional yet very personable and tailors his instruction to the needs of the student. His critiques are effective and nonjudgmental, guiding the student to improve with each lesson. Daniel is a patient and thorough teacher. He provides structured lessons with enough flexibility to address any specific difficulties a student is encountering; either with the lesson material, or material from any activities the student participates in. Having 10 years of experienced cello teaching, I feel very comfortable helping my students understand the foundations of cello technique. I graduated with a Bachelors of Music from the music conservatory Cleveland Institute of Music, and got my Masters in Music from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music.

In addition, I completed a 2 year rigorous Suzuki Technique Pedagogy Program where I am now certified to teach all 10 levels of the cello books. I am confident in explaining any questions a student may have. I love to make practicing a game, so that way we are developing the proper skills but also challenging ourselves while having fun! Even I can understand that practicing can get tiresome and dull at times!

As a traveling musician who has performed all over the world, I feel it is important for students to appreciate all types of music. While classical training and technique are absolutely crucial to the beginning stages of a student's development, I like to show the ...

About Genevieve
I am a professional cellist, skilled in all solo, chamber, and orchestra settings. My playing has invited me into the top ranking music festivals in the world including Tanglewood Music Center, Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, and many others. These opportunities have led me to perform with the New York Philharmonic.

Growing up, I studied with a Philadelphia orchestra cellist who prepared me for conservatory auditions. After being accepted into all 7 universities and conservatories I applied to including the Juilliard School, I decided to go to the Cleveland Institute of Music where I got my Bachelors of Music in cello performance. I studied with the former principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra, and also with one of the best Suzuki pedagogues in the country. I, then, got a Masters in Music in cello performance
from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music. There, I studied with one of the most internationally renowned cello professors in the world who has shaped me into the musician I am today. In addition, I got my Suzuki Certification in all 10 levels of cello books after completing a 2 year year rigorous Suzuki pedagogy program.

In my second year at Northwestern, I won a fellowship, covering my full tuition and acceptance into The Civic Orchestra of Chicago. This is the apprentice orchestra under the Chicago Symphony. We worked with all the conductors that came in to play with the symphony. Yo Yo Ma, the most famous cellist of all time, is the creative consultant for the Civic Orchestra and we got to work with him 4 or 5 times a year.

I have traveled and performed with my string quartet ATLYS representing Lincoln Center in New York City. We have traveled around the world playing crossover music, where we play arrangements of pop, jazz, folk, traditional, rock, indie, alternative, rap, but always return to the forever-beautiful classical quartets, as well.

Because of this, I have learned to play extended techniques on the cello and learned different styles of playing, like Celtic gigs and reels and cool jazzy bass lines. I think this is a fun unique quality that I can add to a student's cello development when studying with me.

I arrange music for string quartet, too. I think it's important for my students to also learn some basic music theory as it can develop a student's understanding of music at a much deeper level. This can make a student appreciate how a piece is created and where a phrase needs tension or where it needs to be released. It's very important for their musicality.

Genevieve taught me the most I’ve ever learned about the cello in a mere two months. Through her I was able to move through an entire Suzuki book while also learning every scale (including chromatic) without using open strings. The techniques she taught me helped further my music that I still use today. Before studying with her I was fourth stand in my high school’s orchestra. By the end of the Summer I was able to achieve first chair and all of the offered solos.

As a musician who has taken private lessons from different teachers for over 12 years, I know the importance of having an organized, supportive, and positive teacher that does not overwhelm the student. Lessons will be structured based on specific aims and goals, with an overview of the previous week at the beginning of each lesson and goal-setting at the end of each lesson. It will be fun and engaging, and ultimately increase the student's interest and ability in playing cello!

About CLAIRE
I am a cellist who has been playing for almost 20 years of my life. I graduated from UC Irvine in 2014, and have had extensive experience as a soloist, in orchestra, and in chamber music. I competed as a soloist and with my piano trio and loved to play gigs with my quartet at different venues. I am currently assistant principal of the IVC Symphony Orchestra.

Learning classical music can be hard, and I have first-hand experience in feeling the frustrations and pressure of not improving. I believe the teacher makes a huge impact on whether the student continues to persevere through the struggles or gives up and loses their interest in the instrument. My experience studying under private music teachers for both cello and piano gives me a unique perspective on what works and what doesn't. I like to get to know the student and set goals toget
her so I know that we are on the same page on what we are hoping to achieve. My students can expect to not only improve week by week but also increase their love for the cello.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
