Not only have I studied Spanish, but I have also lived in Peru and Mexico for a several years, as well as traveled extensively around Latin America, gaining complete fluency. In addition to Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Conversational Spanish, I also teach Spanish for Healthcare Professionals.

About Jackie
Hi! My name is Jackie, and I have 15+ years of experience in teaching, tutoring, and training. Currently, I am enjoying managing two small businesses while teaching students part time.

All of my students, meaning a perfect 100%, have improved their grades by at least one letter grade, if not more, and passed every one of their tests and exams. I help ALL my clients reach their goals!

A couple years ago, I returned to San Diego after living in Peru for several years where I taught English as a second language. My students ranged from adult business people and academicians to primary and secondary school students. I really needed to utilize different teaching methods depending on each student’s needs. Some students wanted more business-related conversation, so I had to be able to teach business principles in marketing, communication,
logistics, interviewing, and so much more. Critical thinking was an area that I pushed my business students to improve. Other students needed to work on the basics of grammar, reading, and writing, and we had a lot of fun in class, whether going through the interactive lesson or improvising by playing fun games to emphasize thinking on their feet in another language.

The feedback I often received from my Peruvian students, as well as my students in Mexico and the U.S., was that I made learning an enjoyable experience—they wanted to work harder to advance quickly in their classes. All of my students agree that I have a lot of patience and turn even the most challenging lessons into ones of positivity and encouragement. I provide critical feedback in the most constructive of ways that help the students reach conclusions on their own. I enjoy being there to support and guide their experience!

Before I left for Peru, I worked at St Vincent de Paul Village (part of Father Joe's Villages) in downtown San Diego. There I focused on Health Education. I built the Villages' first Health Education department and helped start its innovative Health & Wellness program. As part of these two programs, I taught homeless and low-income adults with and without learning disabilities, as well as children from preschoolers to high school students. Teaching such a wide variety of students how to improve their health while living in sometimes precarious situations without much income or stability pushed me to think creatively and come up with memorable ways to engage the students and help them apply what they had learned in their daily routine.

In high school, I took all AP and college prep classes. I went to a liberal arts college in Virginia where I focused on social studies and biology. I spent a few years training business people in Microsoft Office, Photoshop, InDesign, as well as presentation techniques. In grad school, I specialized in applied anthropology and public health. During that time, I tutored students in web design. In between, I've worked in Communications and Training in international health and development, so I have a lot of experience to bring to teaching.

Basically, I love teaching. I'm enthusiastic yet patient, and I absolutely adore helping kids and adults alike learn. It's such a sense of accomplishment when my students show off their terrific grades. I see the same look in my students’ eyes regardless of age—that pride that shines from within, that exuberant smile, like they can conquer anything. I want my students to keep that pride for a long, long time.

Right now, I'm writing two textbooks to be used in my Spanish classes. I've also written several academic articles published online. I love traveling, cats, and learning!

Great first lesson! I'm looking forward to digging deeper into the verb tenses and to continue conversing in Spanish. Power point, Google, all sort of visuals have been used and they all made our lesson not just a virtual encounter but a real life experience. Thank you!

Hola! I have a BA in Hispanic Studies from East Carolina University, have tutored Spanish for a year, and am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Ethnomusicology with a focus in Latin American music and culture at Florida State University. I am fluent in Spanish, and well-versed in Latin American and Spanish culture. I make my lessons interactive and engaging- we will not learn Spanish isolated from the cultures in which it is spoken, but we will also learn Spanish in a way that is best for you. I want to help you work towards your goal- I care why you want to learn the language, and I want to tailor my lessons towards your goals and help you achieve them.

About Elisa
Hi, there! My name is Elisa Alfonso and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2012 and have loved helping my students learn and/or improve their flute playing and improve their general understanding of music. I also really love helping students learn to articulate their ideas on paper! I went to East Carolina University and earned my BM in Music Performance and a BA in Hispanic Studies in 2016. I strive to make lessons both a fun and productive experience for students, and will use the educational goals that the student identifies to structure custom lesson plans for that student. I strongly believe in explaining the reasoning behind activities so students understand the goals that they are working towards in our lessons, and I am passionate about helping my students succeed. I look forward to helping you reac

I take a communicative approach to teaching languages, making sure you feel comfortable communicating in Spanish and helping you with grammar and pronunciation along the way. I can help with conversational Spanish, grammar, pronunciation, AP Spanish prep, and/or vocabulary. As a PhD student in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching, I bring my expertise to the lessons to make learning hands on and interactive for all ages, both in person and online.

About Natalie
Hello, bonjour, hola! I'm Natalie and I've been tutoring for eight years and formally teaching for four years. I've loved helping students meet their goals in French, English, and Spanish, and I look forward to helping you.

I hold a B.A. in French and Chinese and an M.A. in French Linguistics, both from University of Florida. Currently, I am a first year PhD student in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching. As such, I am truly centered on helping you achieve your language goals from traveling abroad to passing a language test to communicating in your work or school environment. My flexibility and enthusiasm coupled with individualized lesson plans will help increase your confidence in communicating in other language(s).

I'm dedicated to help you becoming bilingual or proficient for travel needs in another language. Bilingualism
not only makes you smarter, as you have to learn to switch in between languages and inhibit one while using the other, it also makes you less likely to get Alzheimer's or dementia (New York Times, 2012). So what are you waiting for? Let's get you on your language learning journey today! Bon voyage! Buen viaje!

Note: I will be co-leading and teaching a study abroad program in Paris this summer (June-July), so will have slightly different availability and will be 6 hours ahead of Eastern Time (9 hours ahead of Pacific). Please contact me if you're interested in lessons and we will find a time that works for you!

I have been learning French with Natalie for a month and a half already and I am very grateful for her knowledge, kindness, flexibility and excellent teaching skills. Her private and group lessons are prepared and organized with objectives, explanations, examples, links to external materials and homework so you can study on your own. She makes her classes super fun and interesting, I learn a lot.
Besides my weekly private class with Natalie, I take several group classes with her and other teachers... Natalie is my favorite, I highly recommend her!!
