We can start from wherever you've left off. If you're a complete beginner, we'll start with the basics: guitar anatomy, strings, tuning, hand position, then work our way up through scales, single note exercises, and basic chords. You can expect to be fluent in open chords within 3 months and playing some of your favorite songs in 6.
As you advance, we can work on how to play with other musicians, as well as music theory, modes, and more complex scales.
I can teach students of any age or skill level in all styles, but my particular area of specialty is in jazz, country, folk, bluegrass and blues.
A unique specialty of mine is in Travis Picking (using a thumb pick and two fingers to pick bass lines, chords and melody all at once).
--Hudson Valley Almanac Weekly
"a force to be reckoned with... sophisticated chord voicings, complex finger picking patterns, and a flurry of blues, jazz, and folk inflected riffs performed with a ringing acoustic tone and an undeniable rhythmic drive."

I have learned over the years teaching causes you to truly know your craft in order to convey it to someone else. I enjoy sharing that joy of music with others looking to embark on their own musical journey. I have devised a system for teaching that has proven to be effective among my students.
I start off by gauging what the student knows musically to see what we need to focus on. After that, we work through principles and songs in a systematic and fun way. I give homework and material to work on every lesson to reinforce the work of the day.
