Hello! I have over 25 years of professional saxophone and clarinet playing experience. I've played and recorded many different styles with many different bands, orchestras, and jazz ensembles.
I teach clarinet and saxophone on all levels. I can teach beginners the basics of fingering, tone, music reading, theory, etc. I can help intermediate students advance in their playing prowess. I can get adults who haven't played in a while back into playing shape. And, for more advanced students, I can teach jazz improvisation. So, I cater my teaching to your desires and goals!
I'm able to teach adults and teenagers (age 12 and up) and I'm open to any frequency that fits your budget and desires (once a week, once every two weeks, twice a week, etc.).
About Brian
I've played clarinet and sax for over 40 years, playing throughout grammar school, high school, and college. I attended University of California at Berkeley where I played in the marching band and in various jazz bands, orchestras, and ensembles. After graduating I've played professionally ever sin

When taking lessons with me, you will be learning from a musician that has performed and recorded with Grammy-level instrumentalists such as Alex Sipiagin, Ulysses Owens Jr., Christian Sands, Yotam Silberstein, Gil Goldstein, Ben Williams, Reuben Rogers, and Michael Dease. Having studied and performed in multiple genres including classical, jazz, R&B, musical theater, gospel, and others, I will be able to show you how to master your instrument in any context. If you are an advanced musician looking to find a unique voice in this field, look no further. Having recorded my own compositions commercially with some of the most well-regarded artists in New York, you will be studying with someone who knows what it takes to develop their own personal style successfully. I teach everything from fundamentals, to theory, to composition, to doubling, to improvisation and more. I would love to get to know you and share with you what my teachers so graciously shared with me!

I want to help you play from your heart. Music is a magical part of life, and I can help you learn how to play music that people want to hear. I will show you how to conquer the mechanics of the process so that you can focus on the beauty and joy of the music.
Music can also integrate our mind, body and soul. I work with students on all levels. We will break thinks down into manageable bits and bring it back together and synthesize it into a whole.

We love her!!"

Sean is a passionate, energetic and empathic instructor with an amazing mix of both theoretical knowledge and real-life experience.
Sean adapted the lessons to my skills level and challenged me to try out new techniques and expanded my musical horizons.
I can see how my saxophone playing skills have developed throughout our lessons and can't wait to get back home to show my friends and family all the new stuff I learned."

Kendra is wonderfully, broadly trained, and very effective at working with me on everything from embouchure and fingerings to maximizing effectiveness of practice. She is ALWAYS upbeat, supportive, friendly, PATIENT, and helpful - and I've always looked forward to our lessons. She is very good at figuring out how to be helpful, and how to keep the joy in music even while working on technique, and at my request, music theory. I could not have enjoyed the experience more, or been more successful, than with Kendra."

Learning how to play saxophone starts with the right equipment--namely, a quality neck strap! Read on for some helpful advice from Brookings, SD teacher Carl S... The saxophone is a unique instrument for many reasons. One example is that the saxophone is the only band instrument that uses a neck strap.
