More importantly she is a mentor, an educator and encourager to thousands of performers. Lisa Kay has performed professionally for twenty years as a soloist in opera, oratorio, recital, musical theatre and jazz. She has taught in summer programs in Rome, Viterbo and throughout the US. She has served as music professor at several institutions including Colorado Christian University. She is a published playwright, a national drama critic and an acclaimed director and performer. She is passionate about the arts and empowering artists.

As your voice teacher I tailor your lessons to meet your needs. I will guide you through the proper way to warm up your body, breath and voice. We will focus on technique to improve your breath support, stamina and range. I will provide you with tips and tricks to sing in any style while still staying true to your natural voice.

Born in the Midwest, I spent seven graduate years in Paris performing, teaching, and researching. I have come to see music lessons as both a personal process of body awareness and harnessing mental energy, and as an interpersonal process of exploring the dynamic between student and teacher. I currently sing with the Minnesota Chorale and the Bach Society of Minnesota.

When I first begin teaching a student, I tell them that everyone has the ability to sing well no matter his or her experience. I also tell them that there are four things that a good singer must have: breathe control (air is your fuel, and must be used efficiently and effectively to give you the best sound), posture (in order to have access to your air and prevent vocal damage you must practice good posture habits), diction (how you pronounce words when singing can impede or improve vocal tone, as well as help or hinder the audience in understanding the lyrics) and finally and most importantly, passion. Passion is how emotionally connected you are to music and is what really allows the singer to connect with his or her audience.
