As a voice teacher, I believe that my job is to allow the students to discover their own unique characteristics. I like to teach in an relaxed environment where the student will be able to develop a healthy (learning bad techniques can be harmful to the throat and body) strong techniques. It is important for the students to learn their own bodies and limit, while being taught to use their bodies to help produce beautiful singing.

Singing is more than just about using their voice and achieving proper technique.. It is equally important to learn the music history, theory, acting, etc. appropriate to the piece they are working on. When everything comes together with proper singing and the correct knowledge, students will be able to perform a piece in an intelligent manner.

Finally, something I have learned from my previous teachers, it is important to go beyond being just a teacher, and become a role-model and a mentor to my students.

In addition to teaching singing and acting for over 10 years I have performed in numerous Broadway shows, West End shows, and National Tours throughout the US and Canada. Lessons are unique to each individual. I tend to cater
my lesson plan to each students goals, experience, and age. I believe that there is no one way to teach or one way to learn. Trying numerous exercises and coming up with creative ways to help students assimilate new material and concepts is a core part of my teaching philosophy. Above all learning should be fun and exciting. I will do my best to create a safe open atmosphere where a student of any age level can succeed in achieving their learning goals.

Musical Theatre is my passion and my forte, however in order to teach singing or acting proper technique must be established.

Chris was very patient and provided great advice, examples and coaching. This is my first voice lesson and I am 54 years old and I was very nervous and unsure, but Chris made me feel comfortable and relaxed. I am looking forward to the next lesson and I am already practicing. My goal is to improve my singing and perhaps one day be on a local stage playing a small part, something that has been in my system for many years! I believe Chris will provide me with the training that may one day assist me in achieving my goal.

She has treated my daughter with such care. My daughter takes a little longer to learn, but Kelly has been so patient and kind to her. We see Kelly once a week and this has to be my daughter's favorite day. We come over to see that Kelly has planned the cutest activities to help my child understand each lesson. Every week we feel like we are in our home away from home. Highly rec=commend you to allow Kelly to teach your children, you won't regret it.

As you learn the notes, it becomes increasingly critical to understand the theory behind them. My instrumental lessons will often include basic theory fundamentals such as scales, major and minor triads, etc., but if you are interested in specific theory tutoring, I can help out with that as well. In particular, we can develop the ability to sing notes on the page at just a glance and learning notes by ear.

About James
Hello everyone! Please have a look around my profile and feel free to contact me. I have taught privately since 2009 and joined takelessons.com in 2014.

I strongly feel each student needs lesson goals tailored to what he or she wants to take away from music. Getting ready for a college performance degree, making it to state solo contest, surviving band music, or simply discovering the huge scope of music available to us these days are each worthy goals, but require different preparation. I will work with you to figure out where your interests lie and focus on those, first and foremost!

My education includes bachelor's and master's degrees in trumpet performance from Lawrence University and UW-Milwaukee, respectively. In addition to my private studio, I maintain an active teaching schedule with the Fairfield Jr/Sr High School marchin
g band and Oregon Crusaders drum and bugle corps, as well as freelancing throughout Michiana.

Thanks for your time, and happy practicing!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I can provide: music stand, method books during lessons, recording equipment for lessons, tuner, metronome

Students should provide: instrument/mouthpiece, any other music they would like to play

*** Specialties ***
I have spent most of my playing time on classical (orchestral, chamber, and solo music), but also welcome students interested in jazz up to an intermediate level, especially if they have an interest in playing lead trumpet.

I went into banjo lessons not knowing if I could master the instrument or not, being nearly 70 years old. While by no means a master (and never going to be), I have learned so much from Sam and he has shown such patience with me. I often leave my lessons wondering how he ever puts up with me - but he does. His encourgement, laid-back style, expertise and knowledge of music (plus theory) and the banjo is impressive. His good nature makes my lessons so much more pleasant. I would say Sam is a a great teacher for both a beginner or an accomplished musician or in between. He likes to talk and demonstrate (nice and slowly if requested) so I would recommend hour-long lessons at first.

For the last year I have been taking piano, viola and violin lessons online with DeAndre. He is a natural, insightful teacher and I look forward to years of lessons with him. I would absolutely recommend him.

I'm a beginner with the violin and viola and an intermediate pianist. I was doubtful at first that I would be able to learn through a video chat. I'm amazed at the detail DeAndre can pick up just by watching a video chat. There have been many times when we just did the lesson over the phone with no video and he was able to tell that my fingering hand was in the wrong position or I was holding the bow wrong just by listening over the phone!

On and off through my life I've taken piano and viola lessons (I'm 46) and was never able to get very far. I found my teachers discouraged me in many ways without trying to. DeAndre has been fantastic. With his instruction I've been able to do things I never thought I would ever be able to do. He's excellent at giving feedback about the things I'm doing wrong but in a way that keeps me positive and makes me aware of the things I'm doing well and the things I need to improve.

DeAndre is absolutely worth the time and money.

My daughter is extremely shy and introvert, she said she felt comfortable with DeAndre. From my observance of him interacting with her he is very patient and is able to work well with young beginning students. My daughter is 11 and her only experience was playing with her strings class last year in 5th grade. You can tell DeAndre has a very calm personality that translates into his lessons with his students. That is such an important quality to possess when working with young beginning students. Thanks for a great lesson we look forward to many more with you.

About Ulises
I have played trumpet for 15 years, and taught lessons for 5 years. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in trumpet performance from Idaho State University, and a Master's Degree in trumpet performance from the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.

As a student who has overcome tension and anxiety, I can pinpoint any causes for these problems that a student may have. I am very understanding and I know that each student learns differently. I believe that music making should be fun, and I can help your playing be effortless so you can enjoy every moment of playing the instrument.

I have been contracted by several orchestras in Idaho in the past, and I have played professionally for memorial day services. I have played in brass quintets and am familiar with playing the correct style in a jazz setting.

Clear explanation of theory elements and concepts, effective assignments and an approach based on the principle of "experience first, theory second." I believe this principle is extremely important. Any theory of music every devised is inadequate. It's extremely helpful to know, but if it is not known through experience and application, it's not very helpful for learning, performing or creating music.

About Kevin
I am a musician/teacher with almost 30 years of professional experience. I have successfully taught students as young as 3 and as old as 89. Some of my students are exceptionally gifted and excel in competitions and music exams. Some have few natural gifts, bringing to lessons little more than a basic interest. Most are somewhere in between. Supremely gifted or not, I don't care. My motto is "Growing the Seeds of a Musical Life." If I can plant those seeds and help them grow, I find joy and satisfaction in my work.

He is exceptionally good at breaking things down and engaging you through well thought out illustrations that are common in every day life. He is encouraging and patient. He is knowledgeable not just about piano music but music history and all things music and is able to relate much of this in a lesson that is very beneficial.
