My teaching experience includes students between the ages of 8 and 70. I believe in the individual approach and decide what music books and methods to use and recommend after the first few lessons with the student. Playing the flute is a great skill that lets you appreciate and express music. It also enhances your focus and the quickness of your mind since you think of a few things simultaneously while playing. For fun you can play your favorite song, compose one or play duets with your teacher.

Flute lessons can be fun, educational and helpfull. Playing the flute is a great skill that lets you appreciate and express music. It also enhances your capability to focus and the quickness of your mind since you think of a few different things simultaneously when playing the instrument. And the fun part - well you can play your favorite song, compose something yourself or have fun playing duets with me or fellow flute students.

The private lesson experience is unique in that it allows for more “customized” instruction that group lessons or rehearsals alone are not able to give. The instructor and student work one on one as a “team” toward the ultimate goal: a better understanding of their instrument, and a higher level of musical development.

In every lesson, we will work to improve technique, tone production, and listening/music reading skills, among other things. I will assign exercises and/or pieces each week that are meant to challenge, not overwhelm! Sometimes I will assign an exercise that is expressly meant for a particular area in which the student may not be the strongest, in an effort to develop that area. Learning an instrument is a skill that takes time to develop, and it is within the journey where most valuable learning takes place!

About Amanda
Amanda is a professional Pittsburgh-area flutist and private teacher. She has served as principal flutist with the Pittsburgh Philharmonic as well as second flute/piccolo with the Undercroft Opera. She is active as a soloist, performing in a variety of venues throughout the Pittsburgh region.

An ardent advocate of early music and historical performance, Amanda also plays the baroque flute. She has performed in masterclasses for internationally known baroque flutists Kim Pineda, Janet See, and Barthold Kuijken.

About Charis
I have a B.S. in Music Education. I have worked with several disabled students patiently guiding them, finding creative ways to make music accessible to them. I believe it is not about me or the parent, but the student. I work with children of all ages believing that we can find a way that works so that in a few months you see results. Anyone can learn to sing or play but not everyone is going to enjoy it without the right approach and teacher. I don't want to hear a student say that the teacher didn't listen to me, they wouldn't entertain my ideas.
In my studio I have a studio piano and a keyboard. We have monitors and microphones and the ability to record. I encourage the composer to the pop music player, from the classical artist to the Broadway singer.
Currently, I have several students that compose their own music, helpi
ng one of those students to become a copyrighted artist.

*** Lesson Details ***
For the child I have had the most success with the Bastien method and for the Adult pianist I usually use Alfred's method books. I constantly have access to musicnotes.com to download any current or older hit in addition to the method books. I want you to learn to note read and then to play by chords. I never want the student to lose their creative, artistic ability. They should feel welcome at all times to add input to the lesson. I want you to have fun learning and find the ability in you to make music. Please contact Takelessons if a time does not suit your availability. I may be able to work something out.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I own my music studio w/ piano, seating for parents. I have vocal equipment, microphones and monitors

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will have a music bingo game with me and whatever else is needed to supplement the lesson

*** Specialties ***
I teach any style and method that is needed, but prefer Bastien, feeling it doesn't drag the information out. I teach note reading and playing classical music to playing by chords and learning how to split the voicing

Classically trained teacher available for beginning through intermediate students of all ages. I want to ensure that we focus on what you want to learn, that you are happy with your progress, master proper technique, and have fun!

About Jesica
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I started playing flute when I was 8 and bass when I was 13. In 2002, I moved to New York City to attend The Juilliard School, where I earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Double Bass performance. I came to Pittsburgh to attend Carnegie Mellon University, where I got a Master of Music degree and a post-graduate Performance Residency Certificate. Since finishing at Carnegie Mellon in 2011, I have been freelancing in Western PA, Ohio, and West Virginia.

*** Lesson Details ***
I want to provide a fun, relaxed environment in which you feel appropriately challenged and comfortable to make mistakes. I don't have a pre-set course of music and exercises that I give to every student. Rather, I prefer to have a variety of music and exercises at hand so that we can find material that addresses the s
tudent's learning needs and is enjoyable for that student. I love teaching to all ages and levels, and I understand that each student's learning style and goals are different - the needs of a small child are very different than the needs of a student looking to get into a college music program. I want to ensure that you are happy with your progress, that you learn proper technique, and that you have fun!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music stands, an electronic keyboard, mirrors so that students can see and make corrections to their form, a music library, and seating for parents. There's easily available parking on my street.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my own instrument to demonstrate on. I have an electronic keyboard that I can bring if a music theory student does not have their own piano or keyboard. Students are responsible for purchasing all books and materials.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical music of all eras, from baroque through 21st century compositions.

Jesica takes the time to prepare my instument with tape makings and handwrites lessons for me to take home. Plus im playing 5 different scales after only two sessions with her. She also is starting to teach me the basics on how to read music. I couldnt ask for a better teacher to start me on the fundamentals of the upright bass. Very pleased so far and look foward to every lesson.

I was satisfied with the lesson. I wasn't noticing that Jessica had 2 E-Mails 'till the next day when I checked my PC. She said that she could be at at the bus stop when I got off the bus yesterday. That was alright anyway; I was a little bit early But she said that it was alright. Buses ether are early or late. (some times they don't show-up at all; I call the bus company several years ago & why it happened that way. They told me that they don't have time to look for another person to drive the bus & the guy calls up & he just wouldn't be there that day. Any was I liked the lesson & Jessica lives close to the 71C were I live. It was a short ride from my place were I live. It as a good lesson.

We are so delighted to have Luther teaching our girls the piano. Our eldest who is 7 has played for a while but we are really seeing a huge impact with his instruction. She is more excited to learn and even goes independently now to practice on her own in the middle of the week, which was really never the case and she really loved her last teacher of two years. After just 3 lessons ( with a gap in between the first two) we can see she has progressed more than she has in 6 months of weekly lessons. The thing that we really love is that he is not just there to make a dollar, and he does not want to waste your money and will give it to you straight! You couldn't ask for more! OUr youngest was so impressed now even she is showing an interest in the piano and she took over the second lesson and now we have gotten the 4 year old started as well. Very satisfied customers already. Looking forward to an awesome year!

I have been playing flute professionally for over six years. My first performance was a production of "Chicago," and it opened up opportunities to play multiple woodwinds in all kinds of contexts.
I am excited to share my passion for this beautiful instrument!

About Michael
I am a woodwind specialist with a degree in saxophone performance from the University of Arizona. I have been performing and competing since the fifth grade. Since arriving in Tucson in 2010, I have performed with dozens of groups, perhaps most notably the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. I play a variety of musical styles including classical, jazz, musical theater, rock, funk and avant garde. Music has provided me the opportunity to travel all over the world, from London to China and Mexico to Peru.
I opened my private lesson studio in 2012. Since then, I have cultivated a deep passion for creating personalized lessons for motivated students. Lessons revolve around strong fundamentals, but feature fun and engaging activities such as games, transcriptions of pop tunes (or any genre), active listening and discussion, free and guided improvisati
on and anything else that inspires each individual student. I have taught beginners as young as eight years old to advanced players well into their retirement.
I'm looking forward to sharing my passion with you!

When my 11 year old son first began saxophone lessons with Michael Weiss, he was a true beginner but within 5 months, he was playing a song at a recital! Michael is patient and kind but firm in his direction and has instilled confidence in my son that he can play whatever songs he wants to play with focus and practice. Michael is flexible and adept at tailoring his lessons to the individual's needs. I highly recommend him.

Email me at Evan@ EvanMcGlennenMusic.com to set up a FREE first lesson to see if I'm the right teacher for you!

The hardest part about learning the flute is tone! I have tons of sound exercises that I can show you to help improve your sound by doing them a little bit each day. My main instrument is saxophone, so learning to double on flute has forced me to work on sound constantly. We can also cover technique, scales, single tonguing, double tonguing, and circular breathing.

About Evan
Email me at Evan@ EvanMcGlennenMusic.com to set up a FREE first lesson to see if I'm the right teacher for you!

My name is Evan McGlennen and I am a 2017 graduate of the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School. While in school, I studied extensively with two-time Grammy award winner Eric DeFade. I continued to study with Eric through the summer of 2015 while completing the Carnegie Mellon Pre-college music program. In the following summer, I was awarded a full tuition scholarship to the Berklee College of Music 5-week summer intensive. While attending the 5-week, I studied with Harry Skoler, Lance Van Lenten and other Berklee College of Music Faculty.

Today, I freelance around the Pittsburgh and surrounding areas playing a variety of styles on multiple woodwinds. I come from a large family so I'm very good with kids and
can explain things in multiple ways. I'm very easy to talk to and want to help students discover their passion for this incredible art form.

I have a wide range of experience in different genres of classical music having played in a variety of ensembles: orchestral to contemporary. In addition to learning the basics of flute playing, I can introduce students to extended techniques on the flute. I also believe that music lessons should be fun, and would LOVE to help you play your favorite music -- whether it's classical music, or your favorite song on the radio. More about my education and experience: I received my Bachelor of Music degree at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in Michigan, and came to NY to pursue my Master of Music at NYU. During my time at GVSU, I played with the New Music Ensemble (NME), in addition to playing in orchestra and wind ensemble. At NYU, I am playing with the NME, Contemporary Music Ensemble (CME), and NYUO1 (orchestra). I can be heard on GVSU NME's latest album "return," and on the GVSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble's album "Under Western Skies." I hope to hear from you soon!

About Hannah
During my time at Grand Valley State University (GVSU), I was principal flutist in the GVSU Symphony Orchestra and the GVSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE). While part of the GVSU SWE, I was part of a recording project with them for trumpet concerti and can be heard on the album "Under Western Skies." The trumpet soloists on this album are Richard Stoelzel and Rex Richardson.

While a member of the GVSU NME, I was a part of a recording project featuring music composed by GVSU composition alumni for the album "return." I have been on mulitple tours with the GVSU NME: 2016 Midwest Tour, 2016 National Parks Tour, and 2018 National Parks Tour. The GVSU NME has also been featured on NPR's Performance Today series. In 2017, I performed at the New Music Gathering with the GVSU NME.

Now at NYU for my Masters degree, I am still active in orchestr
al and contemporary ensembles. Having played in band, orchestral, and chamber settings, I am able to help students improve in each of these classical music settings. In addition, I believe the student should also have a say in what they study in lessons. Meaning, I would also love to help students play other genres outside of the classical realm. I hope to hear from you soon!

Playing the flute has been my passion for 11 years! And because I want to share that love for music, I got my degree in music education. I also have experience teaching flute to a variety of levels and ages, from 3rd grade to adult. In lessons, we will work to develop good tone and technique while learning a wide range of music. My goal for you is to enjoy making music as you reach your full potential as a flautist!

About Moriah
Hello! I am a flautist who is passionate about classical music of all kinds. I love playing in ensembles and have been in eight bands in my career. Of those, four have been honor bands, one an Alabama's All State band where I placed 2nd in the state for piccolo. Orchestra music is another passion of mine, and I have been in four orchestras so far. The last orchestra I was in was the PCCymphony where I was the principle flautist for three and a half years. Performing with other ensembles, such as flute choir, woodwind ensemble, and soloing for string and brass ensembles, have helped shape me into the musician I am today.

But I also have had a wide range of experiences that help me as a teacher get you to the best you can be. In performance, I have played solos, duets, and in woodwind ensembles for the Campus Church of Pensacola whic
h has 4,000+ every Sunday. For those interested in recording, I do have some experience there as well in recording for Rejoice Radios CD for 2017. And most recently, in a competition I was awarded first place in the woodwind category for 2018.

The Lord has blessed me to be able to make music for Him, and I would love to help you grow in your musicianship as well! Together we will have fun while working on your goals. I can't wait to get started!
