I learned exactly what I needed to know within our planned lesson time; Jean Marc made this possible by planning with me in advance specific learning objectives. And he was available when I needed him (a big plus). I will definitely book another lesson, and highly recommend him!

I have been coaching chess for many years. What makes chess lessons unique with me is that I make the chess lessons exciting, fun to learn, I point out mistakes/weaknesses in a very kind way, I give good examples of moves/positions relate to real life, I teach people the psychology of playing chess, and I improve people's game through love and repetition. I teach several opening variations as well as middle-game and end-game tactics. But I focus on what people's weaknesses are and I make those weaknesses their greatest strength.

About Mathew
I have been coaching chess for years. I have been passionately studying the game of chess for 13 years. I am currently a 1987 USCF player (Class A player). My highest rating was 2121 for chess.com blitz rating. But I am committed to go to 2200+ USCF player (National Master player). I have won several chess tournaments as well. I recently won the 2018 Philadelphia Open Chess Tournament.

I am currently coaching several students to go above and beyond their expectations. If you hire me as your coach, I will take you above and beyond your expectations in the game of chess. My coaching style is hands on, which means that I provide move by move feedback. My coaching philosophy is grounded in encouragement and meticulous game review. My one student that I have been coaching for 2 years went from never playing chess to a 1350 USCF chess rating
.

I graduated from Kutztown University of PA in 2013 with a B.S. in Biology: Molecular/Micro/Cell with two Minors in Mathematics and Biochemistry. I have such a passion for math, science, and chess. And I try to live with that passion everyday and show that passion to people everyday.

I was stuck in a rut and unsure about how to improve my chess game. After a few lesson with Matt I feel a lot better about where I am at, and have been steadily improving over the last few weeks. Matt was able to figuring out why I was stuck, and what I needed to work on to get my chess abilities to the next level. Would highly recommend him for anyone who is looking to improve their game!

Would you like to learn how to play this beloved strategy game? Do you want to learn how to think 10 moves ahead? Chess is more than just a game, it's a life-skill and is part of critical thinking. I'd love to share my experience with you.

About Kris
I'm a pretty laid back easy going guy. If you want to learn a variety of things, check out my subjects and I'd be happy to help you.

I have quite a bit of life knowledge and experience that I'm willing to share. I see myself as more of a tutor, helping students along the path to get better grades and understand their subject material better.

Some things to expect during a lesson: We will go over the material and find any areas you are struggling with. We will hone in on those areas and get to the root of the issue, then build you up so that you have a solid base of understanding and can grow from there.

I hope we can partner to enhance your education and knowledge.

I love teaching and playing chess! In my opinion, there's nothing better for improvement than playing with someone who shares their knowledge and experience with you as the game occurs!

I won the U.S Open unrated division in 2009 as a sixteen year old, achieving a 1600 rating (300 points above the average USCF tournament player).

I teach openings, endgame principles and mid-game tactics and strategy! However, I like to keep emphasis on the fact that chess is a game, and for most beginners, it's far better to play than to study!

A typical lesson with me as a beginning-intermediate student might involve a brief opening study, where we work through an opening of your choice together and then play from the position while I point out tactics & strategy, followed by a study of the endgame we find ourselves in.

For beginners, we start with the basics and play together!

About Evan
I'm a career string quartet musician who loves both performing and teaching. I graduated with a Master of Music degree from McGill University in Viola Performance.

I've been lucky to have many amazing opportunities so far: I've performed in Carnegie Hall as a member of the New York String Orchestra Seminar; in Yokohama and Tokyo, Japan; and in Salzburg, Austria (the birthplace of Mozart!) as a member of the Milton String Quartet. I've also toured the USA and played in many parts of Canada. My favorite experience was winning the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, the largest competition of its kind in North America!

My teaching experience is quite varied. I currently teach group classes to 3rd-5th graders here in NYC public schools. I've taught chamber music to teenagers in Indiana University's Summer String Academy and to adult lea
rners in Montreal.

To me, music is about community, and getting to play great music with close friends or family is one of the most rewarding experiences.

I also tutor chess: I grew up playing the game and my parents ran a chess club at my elementary school in rural Maine. Chess was pure fun growing up but now I see how valuable of a tool it is for teaching logic, strategy and critical thinking! I won the U.S. Open unrated division at the age of 16 with a USCF rating of 1600 and have competed in a number of other tournaments.
